Chapter 961 Don't Be Overconfident

Steam filled the small bathroom as Lyra stared at the borrowed lingerie in her hands, feeling utterly helpless.

The size was too big, hanging loosely on her body, with the straps constantly slipping down.

She adjusted it several times, but it still didn't fit well. She couldn't help but think to herself—no matter what, she had to find time to buy something that fit tomorrow.

After a quick shower, she wrapped herself in a towel and stepped out of the bathroom, her wet hair draped over her shoulders, droplets falling onto the carpet.

As she was drying her hair with a towel, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Lyra froze, puzzled: Who could it be at this hour? Could Mia need something?

She slipped on her slippers and quickly walked to the door, peeking through the peephole.

She saw Jeffery standing outside, holding something in his hand.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly tightened the towel around herself, making sure it was secure before slowly opening the door.

Her cheeks flushed with nervousness as she softly asked, "Jeffery, it's so late. Is there something you need?"

Jeffery's gaze lingered briefly on her flushed cheeks before he looked away.

He raised his hand, offering the clothes he was holding, clearing his throat with a hint of awkwardness in his voice:

"I just realized you packed in a hurry and might have forgotten some essentials. I happened to have an extra set... You might need this."

Lyra looked down and saw a brand-new set of lingerie, in the exact size she usually wore. Her face turned red instantly.

Feeling embarrassed, she curled her toes and stammered, "I... I borrowed a set from Mia, but thank you."

Jeffery frowned slightly, a flash of regret in his eyes, silently blaming himself for not considering that she might ask someone else for help.

After a pause, he insisted, "Take it. It's always good to have a backup. If you can't go out to buy something tomorrow, you won't be stuck. Besides, Mia's size doesn't fit you well, and it's uncomfortable. Don't be stubborn."

With that, he handed the clothes to Lyra without giving her a chance to refuse.

Lyra clumsily took them, feeling the soft fabric, her heart racing. She avoided Jeffery's intense gaze and whispered, "Thank you. You should get some rest; the flight today must have been exhausting."

Jeffery looked at her deeply and nodded, "You should sleep early too. Tomorrow's schedule is tight, don't stay up late."

With that, he turned and left.

Lyra watched his figure disappear around the corner of the hallway before slowly closing the door, leaning against it with a long sigh.

She looked down at the clothes in her arms, feeling a mix of emotions.

After calming down a bit, she carefully put the clothes away, dried her hair, and lay in bed, but couldn't fall asleep.

Her mind kept replaying Jeffery's attentive care on the plane and his slightly awkward expression when handing her the lingerie... It wasn't until the sky outside began to lighten that she finally drifted off.

When she opened her eyes again, sunlight was streaming through the gaps in the curtains. Lyra sat up with a start and checked the time.

She hurriedly washed up, got dressed, and knocked on Mia's door.

Mia opened the door, still sleepy, and mumbled, "What's going on so early?"

Lyra pulled her inside, saying, "We need to go buy some essentials this morning. The lingerie I borrowed from you last night doesn't fit at all, and I don't want to be uncomfortable all day."

Mia finally understood, yawning, "Alright, give me ten minutes."

The two quickly left the hotel, searching for a suitable store along the street.

The bustling streets of a foreign city were filled with people and various shops.

Finally, they found a lingerie store at the corner, and Lyra dragged Mia inside. After some selecting and trying on, she finally found something that fit.

Just as they were about to pay and leave, Lyra's phone rang. She checked the caller ID—it was Jeffery.

She touched the screen to answer, and his deep voice came through.

"Where are you? I've been waiting in the hotel lobby for a while and haven't seen you. We have a meeting with Pioneer BioTech soon, and it's almost time."

Lyra's heart tightened, and she quickly replied, "We're at the corner buying some things. We'll be back right away. Sorry for the delay."

She grabbed Mia and ran out, feeling frustrated with herself for being slow. This first meeting couldn't be messed up because of her.

They hurried back to the hotel.

Lyra saw Jeffery's tall figure standing in the lobby, looking anxious and checking his watch.

She rushed over, slightly out of breath, her cheeks flushed from running, and apologized, "Jeffery, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting."

Jeffery's furrowed brow relaxed slightly when he saw her, his gaze quickly sweeping over her flushed face and slightly messy hair, his annoyance dissipating.

"No problem, let's hurry. The car is waiting outside."

Mia followed closely behind, sneaking a glance at Jeffery, wondering, 'Jeffery usually seems calm and indifferent, but when it comes to Lyra, he's like a different person, showing his emotions so openly. Interesting.'

The three of them quickly got into the car, heading to Pioneer BioTech.

The atmosphere in the car was tense. Lyra calmed her breathing, silently reviewing the project details in her mind, trying to get into the right mindset.

Jeffery stared out the window, his expression stern, lost in thought.

When they arrived, a modern skyscraper came into view, its glass facade reflecting the cold light of the sun.

Entering the lobby, the reception staff were already waiting, leading them straight to the meeting room.

Inside, representatives from Pioneer BioTech were seated on both sides of a long table.

At the head was Rocco Hightower, the chairman's son-in-law, nearly forty, looking sharp and capable, with the keen eyes of a businessman.

He stood to greet them with a perfectly warm smile, "Mr. Gary, it's an honor to meet you. Please, have a seat."

Jeffery nodded slightly, shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries before sitting down, with Lyra and Mia following suit.

After brief introductions and some small talk, Rocco got to the point, signaling his assistant to distribute the materials, and said loudly.

"We invited your institute here to discuss the clinical application and promotion of our new anti-cancer drug. Here are the detailed research data. Please take a look."

Lyra took the materials, her attention immediately drawn to the dense data, her expression focused.

As she read, she occasionally frowned or lightly tapped her pen, recording key information, completely immersed.

Jeffery glanced at her serious and dedicated demeanor, his lips curling slightly in approval of her professionalism.
