Chapter 34 She Likes Drinking Sweet Milk
The next day, Pearl woke up to see Oscar fastening his tie.
Seeing her awake, Oscar reminded her, "I placed the milk on the bedside, drink it when you get up."
Pearl subconsciously looked towards the bedside and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I have got something to deal with." Oscar looked at her. "I've asked the driver to take you to the company first."
Pearl sat on the edge of the bed, quietly watching Oscar.
After getting dressed, Oscar, noticing Pearl's silence, walked over, picked up the milk from the bedside, and handed it to her, saying softly, "Drink it while it's still warm."
Pearl took it and sipped. "I remember you used to mention that you don't like this."
"If you like it, then it's fine."
Pearl raised her head, surprised by his words.
Back then, he would frown at the sight of it, or the maid would tell her that he didn't like sweet things.
After that, she never drank it again.
Pearl took a sip, it was sweet milk, a taste she hadn't had in a long time.
In the past, when she was studying, feeling anxious before exams, or unhappy, she would have a cup of this to soother her emotion.
Later, she gave up sweet milk for Oscar.
"Is it good?" Oscar asked.
Pearl smiled slightly. "It tastes really good."
Seeing her smile, Oscar felt better. He reached out and touched her head. "If you like it, I'll have the maid prepare it for you at home."
"Really?" Pearl was very surprised.
She was easily contented; a cup of sweet milk could please her.
She didn't expect Oscar to make this change.
"I always keep my word."
Oscar quickly withdrew his hand, picked up the coat she bought, which suited his suit well as the weather had turned colder today.
Pearl, who should have been depressed, found satisfaction in Oscar's actions and was suddenly healed.
She smiled. "Oscar, you look really handsome today."
Oscar bent down and kissed her forehead. "The driver is waiting outside. When you're ready, he'll take you to the company."
"Okay." Pearl obediently agreed.
She watched Oscar's figure, sipping the sweet milk, sensing even the flavor had taken on a new quality.
After a swift tidying up, she went out. The driver was already waiting for her. "Ms. Harris."
Pearl said, "Let's go to the Brown Group."
"Okay."
The driver quickly opened the door for her.
Sitting in the car, Pearl was reading the news on her phone, and happened to come across the news of Haley's suicide.
Her face changed, remembering the incessant phone calls from last night.
That call was from Haley.
'Was Oscar sending me to go to the company first to see Haley?'
She wasn't sure, but had to speculate that way. She said, "Let's go to the hospital first."
When she arrived at the hospital, she saw Oscar's car parked in a secluded corner, Harold waiting in the driver's seat, and Oscar was nowhere to be seen.
A group of reporters crowded the entrance, trying to dig up information.
Pearl got out of the car, walked over, and knocked on the car window.
Harold saw Pearl and immediately got out of the car. "Ms. Harris."
He didn't know about Pearl's relationship with Oscar before.
However, since yesterday, his world had undergone a major change, and he realized that why Pearl had been by Oscar's side all along.
