Chapter 250 Do You Consider Me Your Wife?
As Hathaway defended Haley, Pearl's face stayed cold.
Seeing Pearl speak, Hathaway added, "Pearl, look at Haley. She is already suffering, don't make it worse!"
Her first instinct was to protect Haley.
Pearl walked over and saw Haley crying, looking fragile. "None of you care about Magdalen. You're worried your son will leave you, and Haley's scared of being blamed. I saw it—Magdalen was pushed, and you did it, with Haley egging you on!"
Magdalen was in the operating room, badly hurt, so Pearl had no mercy to give.
"Stop talking nonsense!" Hathaway snapped. "I did push Magdalen, but it was light. She fell on purpose!"
Pearl shot back, "That push wasn't light; we all saw it."
Hathaway's tone grew harsher. "Pearl, if you talk to me like this, don't expect to stay in the Brown family!"
Pearl mocked, "When you're wrong and have nothing to say, you use your elder status to shut me up. You didn't accept me as Oscar's wife at first, but you did for Haley. What's your deal with her? You protect her so much, afraid she'll get hurt!"
Hathaway tightened her grip on Haley's arm. "That's none of your business. If you hadn't incited Magdalen, she wouldn't have attacked Haley, causing her to lose her hearing!"
Pearl looked at Haley, still crying, tears streaming down her face, looking pitiful.
Taking advantage of her so-called deafness, Haley ignored the world, letting others clean up her mess.
"Did she tell you that?" Pearl found it amusing. "Ask Oscar how Haley really lost her hearing. You've been deceived and don't even know it!"
Hathaway was stunned and looked at Haley.
Haley cried harder, looking scared. "Hathaway."
Hathaway continued, "Even if it wasn't Magdalen, she did hurt her, didn't she? If she hadn't done those things, people online wouldn't be cursing her! Haley is a celebrity, well-known. Many people have stood up for her, seeking justice!"
"Fine!"
Pearl's face stayed cold, and without another word, she pushed Haley.
Haley fell, screaming.
It would cause some pain but not injure her.
Hathaway's expression darkened, her anger flaring. "Pearl, what are you doing? How dare you do this in front of me?"
Pearl looked at the crying Haley on the ground. "If you can seek justice for her, I can seek justice for Magdalen. I only pushed her; I didn't hit her, which is already merciful!"
"You dare defy me!" Hathaway, seeing Pearl's defiance, got even angrier.
She almost wanted to grab Pearl's hair, just like she did with Magdalen.
However, Oscar stepped in front, coldly saying, "Enough!"
Hathaway turned to Oscar and said, "Oscar, you see! This is Pearl's true nature. She always wants to bully Haley. Such a person can't be your wife. Haley is a hundred times gentler. Haley should be your wife. Divorce her, now!"
She emphasized it several times.
"That's none of your concern!" Oscar's eyes were calm yet firm. "Magdalen got hurt, and you are responsible. Don't shift the blame. If Magdalen is fine, it's all good, but if something happens to her, you won't escape the consequences. You made a rash mistake, and you'll bear it yourself. I won't help you then!"
Seeing Oscar's indifference, Hathaway called out, "Oscar!"
Oscar, not wanting to hear more, walked away with a cold expression.
Hathaway wanted to say more, but with Haley crying and having been bullied, she couldn't leave. She helped Haley up. "Haley, get up, stop crying."
Haley leaned into Hathaway's arms. "Hathaway, I'm so annoying, everyone dislikes me!"
"No, I like you. Everyone likes you." Hathaway patted Haley's back to comfort her.
Haley continued to cry in Hathaway's arms.
Even if she was at fault, she looked like a victim, and no one dared to say anything against her.
If they weren't in a hospital with so many people around, Pearl would have wanted to tear off her mask and see how well she could pretend.
Of course, she knew that no matter what Haley had done, Hathaway would still protect her.
Their relationship seemed inexplicable.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps approached.
"How is Magdalen?"
Pearl looked up and saw Alfonso approaching.
He was dressed in a suit, about the same height as Oscar, meticulously groomed. Despite being in his fifties, he still looked young and handsome, though coldness was evident in his eyes, showing some concern for Magdalen's situation.
After all, Magdalen was his sister.
Pearl had only seen Alfonso a few times in the Brown family over the years, each time he was in a rush.
Although he was David's son, their relationship didn't seem very good.
Over the years, David never mentioned him, and the Brown family's business was passed down to Oscar.
When David passed away, Alfonso didn't return.
Alfonso didn't look at Hathaway but turned to Oscar. "How is your aunt?"
Oscar frowned slightly and said coldly, "She hasn't come out yet."
Alfonso stopped there and said, "Then I'll wait."
Hathaway was surprised to see Alfonso.
In this situation, she naturally wanted her husband to support her, but she also felt a bit resentful because Alfonso treated her as if she were invisible.
"You finally decided to show up!" Hathaway accused him. "I was sick and hospitalized, and you never came. But as soon as something happened to Magdalen, you rushed over. You have such a cruel heart; you never considered me your wife!"
Hathaway almost lost her temper, facing her husband's indifference, her mood worsened.
Alfonso's expression was cold, and his dark eyes showed even more disdain. "Don't think I don't know what you've done. I'll deal with you once Magdalen wakes up!"
"She brought it on herself. If she hadn't hurt Haley, I wouldn't have treated her this way. You're the same; you're even colder now than before!" Hathaway started to cry.
Alfonso glanced at Haley.
Haley had stopped crying and, facing Alfonso, looked a bit nervous. She clasped her hands tightly and, seeing his gaze, lowered her head and cautiously said, "Uncle Alfonso."
With just one glance, Alfonso withdrew his cold gaze. "You've lost your mind over an outsider. You're becoming more and more outrageous!"
"You want to divorce me!"
Hathaway understood his meaning. "I've been married to you for so many years, done so much for you, and you still want to divorce me! Now you want to divorce me for your mistress. You've become so resolute. Well, I won't allow it. Even if I die, I'll haunt you within the Brown family, never letting you go!"
A trace of disgust appeared in Alfonso's eyes.
