Chapter 471 He Won't Leave Again

Even without Pearl saying a word, Oscar got what she was thinking.

He cupped her cheeks and kissed her deeply, like he wanted to merge with her.

But right at the crucial moment, he pulled away.

"Stay here for a few days. I'll sort things out for you to leave."

"Okay," Pearl panted, watching Oscar leave the tent.

Oscar had more to arrange. He'd mobilized troops for Pearl, convinced the Eldorians to surrender, but still got reprimanded.

Now he was suspended and confined for three days.

He couldn't explain to Pearl himself, so he sent Elijah.

Pearl understood Oscar.

But she hadn't seen Barbara yet.

"Where's Barbara?" Pearl asked.

Elijah answered, "Barbara's in another tent. Don't worry, she's fine. Mr. Brown made her a female soldier to help her regain her memories through training."

"Take me to her."

"Okay," Elijah said, leading the way.

In a few minutes, Pearl saw Barbara in a field, holding a hoe and working the land.

"Barbara," Elijah called out.

Barbara put down the hoe and walked over quickly.

Even though she didn't remember her past, she'd been well taken care of since arriving here.

She liked the name Barbara and sensed Elijah's kindness.

When she reached Elijah and saw Pearl, she felt a sense of familiarity.

"Hi, I'm Pearl. Nice to meet you," Pearl said, extending her hand.

Barbara was stunned.

The name "Pearl" felt familiar, like it triggered something in her memory, but she couldn't recall anything.

What moved her was Pearl's sweet smile.

"Did I know you before?" Barbara asked, her breath catching.

"Yes," Pearl nodded.

Barbara, having lost her memories, didn't know what to say.

"Can I hug you?" Barbara asked cautiously.

"Of course," Pearl said, opening her arms.

They hugged, and it felt strange to Barbara.

Some fragments flashed through her mind. She couldn't grasp them, but felt Pearl was an old friend.

Pearl helped Barbara till the land, and they planted vegetables together.

They even cooked together, and three days flew by.

When Oscar showed up, Pearl noticed the dark stubble on his chin and the fatigue on his face.

The moment he saw her, he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly like he wanted to meld with her.

"I miss you so much," Oscar's voice was hoarse.

"I miss you too," Pearl said, wrapping her arms around his waist, hugging him even tighter.

For the past three days, she'd been working with Barbara to keep busy and not think about Oscar.

But the moment she saw him, she couldn't hold back her emotions.

"Not much to see around here. How about a walk?" Oscar asked, cupping her cheeks and kissing the corner of her mouth.

Pearl shook her head. "You don't need to take me out. You have your own stuff to do. I can't keep interfering."

Oscar was punished because of her. She thought it was better for him to stay in the army; they had a long future ahead.

"Don't say that. It's my fault. I'm not strong enough or I was too careless. I didn't protect you well, and that's why you got hurt," Oscar's voice grew hoarser.

Pearl felt terrible; she hadn't expected Oscar to still be apologizing.

She placed her hand on his lips. "Stop saying that. Oscar, I know all of this. I'll take Adrian and Barbara back first."

But Barbara and Adrian didn't want to go back.

Barbara enjoyed being a female soldier, and Adrian felt peaceful with Pearl around, even if they didn't interact much.

Since they wanted to stay, she respected their wishes.

But for Adrian, Pearl felt it was necessary to insist. She found him and spoke directly.

"I don't know why you don't want to go back, but your family is in Willow Creek. They miss you very much."

To Adrian, his family now felt like strangers. He shook his head. "Pearl, you're here, and I'm doing well here. If I go back, I won't remember anything. I'd rather stay here a bit longer."

Pearl didn't respond. Hearing Adrian call her Pearl made her feel like she was back in the past.

After a few seconds, she spoke slowly, "Adrian, I think if you return to your hometown and stay with your family, you might remember more about your past. Here, there's constant conflict."

She was also considering their safety, which is why she wanted them to return to Willow Creek. Unexpectedly, neither wanted to go.

Adrian nodded. "I know. But I'm not afraid. If you think I'm living too comfortably, I can stay here and join the army."

Just like Barbara.

Pearl was startled and quickly stopped him. "Why join the army? Barbara knows how to fight; you're not even as fit as she is."

If anything happened to Adrian, how could she explain it to the Egan family?

Adrian laughed. "I can learn what Barbara knows. I feel at peace here."

Although he couldn't remember the past, Adrian felt he wanted to stay here, by Pearl's side.

Pearl's breath caught. She wanted to say more, but Adrian laughed. "I have something to do over there. We'll talk later."

What else could she say?

Unexpectedly, after Adrian left, Jeffery approached her.

Jeffery's smile was deep. "Can you let me stay as well?"

He had thought he was going to die. After making his final contribution, he wanted to leave Pearl with the best impression, so he left.

But now he realized something crucial: he couldn't leave. Even if he were to die, he wanted to die by Pearl's side.
