Chapter 278 You Helped Me Once
[I think you're right. Between the two, I prefer Eileen's short videos. I really love her character in this series!]
Haley's face turned red with anger.
'What are these people saying? That Eileen is better than me? No way! I'm clearly more beautiful than Eileen,' she thought.
Her assistant, noticing the short video's likes surpassing a million, started making snide remarks. "What are these netizens commenting on? Clearly, Haley is more attractive. Eileen's just playing on nostalgia and has no real talent. And she's making short videos. That's for ordinary people. How can a star post videos on such a platform? It's so undignified!"
The assistant looked down on this behavior.
Most celebrities on short video platforms weren't very famous and were just trying to make some money. The assistant disdained such actions.
Haley, however, threw her phone down in frustration!
The assistant, intending to comfort Haley, ended up watching her smash her phone, leaving her pale-faced. "Haley."
Haley was furious, her eyes blazing with anger. "Why does she get a million likes and so much admiration just for acting in a few shows? She's not as pretty as I am. I took over her location; there's no way she could take good photos. The likes must be bought!"
She couldn't believe she was losing to Eileen and suspected foul play.
Seeing her so upset, the assistant chimed in, "Absolutely, Haley. Don't be angry. Eileen's actions are so low-class. Big stars don't compete with ordinary people for attention. This is what media influencers do. We won't stoop to her level. Even if one video goes viral, her popularity still won't surpass yours!"
However, Haley couldn't help but be angry.
Even if Eileen relied on short videos, any bit of attention Eileen received made her anxious. She didn't want Eileen to regain her fame. She wanted to crush Eileen and force her out of the entertainment industry. If Eileen was out, she could surpass Pearl!
Haley was so agitated that her hands trembled. She quickly took some medication from her bag to calm herself down.
As she calmed down, Haley's expression quickly changed. The thought that Pearl was about to lose her child brought a cold smile to her lips. "It's okay, just one video. Let them enjoy their moment. But after this time passes, Pearl won't be feeling so proud!"
She wanted to teach Pearl a lesson, to show her that fighting against her would lead to losing everything.

In a dimly lit room, not a ray of sunlight could be seen. Jeffery, wearing gloves stained with blood, held a scalpel and was dissecting an animal's corpse. He extracted the animal's heart and tossed it aside.
His eyes remained indifferent, the bright red blood making his pale skin appear even whiter.
Barbara sat on a nearby chair, legs crossed, watching Jeffery dissect the animal's corpse as if it were a routine sight. She touched her chin with one hand, her seductive eyes fixed on Jeffery, and smiled. "There's a new task."
Jeffery's tone was indifferent. "What task?"
"Dissecting a pregnant woman's body," Barbara said.
Jeffery paused. "Has the task become this perverse?"
Barbara reclined in her chair: "What perverse things haven't you seen? Humans are like rabbits in your hands."
Jeffery continued his work. "When?"
Barbara took out a pocket watch, glanced at the time, and said, "It should be in the afternoon."
Jeffery replied, "A bit later, at the usual place."
Barbara smiled meaningfully. "Alright, I'll be waiting for you."
She quickly left Jeffery's place.
After she left, Jeffery calmly placed the animal's heart back in its body and meticulously stitched up the wound. Despite the gruesome nature of the surgery, the heart could still beat.
Once done, Jeffery removed his blood-stained gloves and washed his hands thoroughly with disinfectant and soap until there was no trace of odor left. Only then did he leave.
He drove to his farm.
At the entrance, guards were stationed. Upon seeing Jeffery's car, they immediately opened the gate to let him in.
The farm had some flowers for decoration, but the rest was filled with strawberries, many of which were rotting on the ground, unpicked.
Jeffery got out of the car, smiling as he looked at the carefully cultivated strawberries, feeling quite pleased.
A guard handed him a basket, and he walked directly into the strawberry field, which was full of ripe, almost black strawberries.
He carefully plucked each strawberry, placing them gently into the basket, ensuring not a single one was bruised, each one fresh and adorned with dewdrops.
Only when the basket was full did he feel content.
As for the rotten strawberries, he didn't care at all. Their value was merely to bring joy.
With a basket full, he placed it in the car and drove away.

Meanwhile, the video had surpassed a million likes, making Pearl and Eileen very happy. They didn't think it was undignified. As long as the audience liked it, they were successful. Who said you had to make blockbuster films to feel accomplished? No star had yet tried to become famous through short videos.
Eileen was a precedent, going viral with a short video. This gave the public a good impression; at least she was willing to engage with everyone.
Soon, many internet celebrities began to imitate her. But no matter how they imitated, they were not Eileen herself. While leaving an impression on the netizens, it also brought Eileen a wave of popularity.
"Pearl, we are amazing!" Emma felt a great sense of accomplishment. Winning the audience's favor through hard work was the happiest thing for her.
Pearl looked at the data on the computer, a smile appearing on her face as well. "Eileen has gained some popularity this time."
Emma laughed. "Look at the comments. They're all saying Haley is imitating Eileen's style but lacks the acting skills. They're all mocking Haley."
As long as the video went viral, this was within Pearl's expectations.
What left a deep impression on the audience was not beauty, but talent.
Even if Haley benefited from good roles and capital investment, mediocre acting would still be criticized.
"Your idol has become popular again," Pearl said, seeing Emma's joyful expression, happier than if she had won an award herself.
Emma, hugging her phone, giggled, "Of course she's popular. Forget the audience, even I got immersed in it. I wish I could go back to that year. Eileen was the first to take the plunge. Despite the subsequent success of many period dramas, she remains my guiding light, exuding a unique aura of elegance. I believe she will rise to the top in the future!"
Not just Emma, Pearl believed it too. Someone with talent and dedication would not be let down.
Just then, Eileen called Pearl to thank her. "Pearl, thank you this time. You helped me a lot."
