Chapter 718 Official Announcement

The timing of Ember's illness was just too perfect. Was she faking it? Harold couldn't shake the thought. He left without showing any emotion, knowing he needed to dig deeper into this.

Not long after he left, Ember got up. She had no clue that her antics last night had already made Harold suspicious. She was busy plotting with Domingo. "Domingo, you gotta play up my illness in front of Harold. If you don't, he'll keep siding with that witch."

"Relax, we've been friends forever. You think I'd rat you out?" Domingo said, thumping his chest. "I'll handle it. But I need a favor too. My kid needs some cash to study abroad. Can you help me out? I'll pay you back once I get my bonus this year."

Ember didn't think twice and agreed. Money wasn't an issue for her now.

When Harold worked as an assistant, he sent her part of his salary every month. After he started his own company, the money flow increased even more.

With plenty of cash, Ember could buy whatever she wanted, so she was dead set on finding herself a good daughter-in-law.

She told Domingo, "No rush on paying me back. Whenever you can. We've been friends for so long. I trust you."

Domingo agreed happily. As he left the hospital room, he shook his head.

He thought, 'Ember has no idea how good she has it. If Harold were my son and married such a great woman, with enough money to last lifetimes, I'd be thrilled. Why work? I'd just chill at home. What a life! But I'm not Ember, so it's not my problem.'

Meanwhile, on Desiree's side...

She got up in the morning, packed her things, and headed to the travel agency with her suitcase.

There was a bus waiting, and once everyone arrived, the driver took them to the airport. The travel agency had booked economy class, but Desiree splurged on first class.

Staring out at the blue sky and white clouds, Desiree thought maybe being alone for the rest of her life wouldn't be so bad.

After this trip, she was determined to focus on her work and not let anything derail her plans. Even if Harold came back, she wouldn't let it mess with her mood or her goals.

A few hours later, the plane landed.

The travel agency had a jam-packed schedule. At first, Desiree had time to let her mind wander, but after a wild horseback ride across the prairie, she could only think of one thing: Hold on tight or get thrown off.

All her worries and troublesome people faded away.

The more fun she had, the worse Daryl felt. When he got home, he told his dad, Tate Fields, and Bronte, about his plan to marry Desiree.

Tate and Bronte had a typical arranged marriage. They didn't know each other before the wedding and weren't close afterward. Even Daryl was conceived through IVF. Over the years, they lived separate lives.

But when it came to Daryl's marriage, they surprisingly agreed for once. Tate said, "I don't care who you marry, as long as she's from a good family and can bring benefits to ours."

Bronte added, "Just make sure the wedding is grand and make our family proud."

Daryl looked at them and felt nothing but pity. This was what happened when people couldn't be with the one they loved. He vowed not to make the same mistake.

He knew how much he loved Desiree. After they got married, he'd come home every night and spend time with her. When they had kids, they'd travel together as a family.

In short, his marriage would be way happier than Tate and Bronte's.

"You don't need to worry about my marriage. I called you here just to inform you. In the next few days, both families will have a meal together. Don't embarrass me." With that, Daryl turned and left. He had nothing more to say to Tate and Bronte.

When he tried to set up the dinner with Liam, Liam apologized. "Sorry, Daryl. Desiree went on a trip. I don't know when she'll be back. We'll have to reschedule."

Daryl could hear the reluctance in Liam's voice. When Liam said to reschedule without a specific time, it meant he didn't want the dinner or the families to be connected.

"Mr. Sandvik, it doesn't matter if Desiree isn't back. My parents are looking forward to having dinner with you two." Daryl was persistent.

He had already informed Tate and Bronte. If the dinner didn't happen, what would they think?

But Liam always put Desiree's happiness first. "Daryl, a meeting between the families is a big deal. Don't rush it. We need to wait for Desiree and get her opinion. This must be handled carefully."

Daryl didn't know how he ended the call. He only knew that Desiree had gone far away to avoid him, and even Liam and Tessa were no longer as friendly towards him.

There was only one option left.

Daryl thought to himself, 'Desiree, you forced me to do this.'

That night, a piece of news became a hot topic: #Fields-Sandvik Matrimonial Alliance.

The comments below were mostly congratulatory, but some were skeptical.

[Isn't Daryl the guy who gave flowers to Desiree outside the courthouse? They said they were just friends, and now they're getting married?]

[Don't take the denials of the rich too seriously. It's just to save face. But it's normal for two well-matched families to be together.]

[Some people are really funny. Do they think that getting divorced means people have to stay single forever? Harold had a woman with him outside the courthouse too. So it's okay for a man to find someone new after a divorce, but a woman doing the same is being unfaithful? The world really is biased. Unbelievable.]

[Why are people so concerned? It's their marriage, not yours. Why care about who cheated? Just enjoy the show.]

Daryl made sure to screenshot the congratulatory comments and send them directly to Harold. They were in the same social circle, so finding Harold's contact info was easy.

Daryl thought, 'It's late, so Harold is probably asleep. He'll see the message in the morning and be furious. He deserves it. He shouldn't have been so stubborn, clinging to Desiree even after the divorce. He deserves to be provoked like this!'
