Chapter 71 She Brought That Woman Home
His words shocked Pearl; she had never imagined that he would say such things.
His kisses became increasingly aggressive, starting from tenderness to possessive. Pearl felt confused momentarily.
When Oscar unbuttoned her pajamas, she felt a chills on her body, and the chilling sensation instantly sobered her up. She glanced at her lower abdomen, feeling a jolt, and quickly pushed Oscar away harshly, saying, "No!"
Oscar had been fully engrossed, but being pushed away so abruptly, he instantly snapped out of it.
He looked at Pearl, who was panicking and pushing him away, with a hint of fear in her eyes. She quickly buttoned her clothes tightly, seeming to have resistance and aversion to his touch.
The desire in his eyes immediately dissipated, and his face instantly turned cold. His thin lips slightly pursed as he coldly asked, "You don't want me to touch you because of Adrian, or Magee?"
Her resistance was strong, and she didn't want his touch. There was one possibility - she was doing it for the man she truly liked.
Pearl touched her belly, where a child was growing. She couldn't be reckless or impulsive. She almost made a mistake.
She looked at Oscar again, seeing his face turning cold and displeased. Clearly, he was very dissatisfied with her actions.
But she had no other choice.
He was drunk now, acting irrationally.
It was because he was drunk and acting irrationally that she became pregnant.
She wasn't just living for herself now; she had to live well for the sake of the child in her womb.
She cast her gaze downwards, overwhelmed in loneliness and could only come up with a weak excuse to appease him. "I'm not feeling well, so I don't want to do this."
These reasons did not convince Oscar, and he also realized that she was just finding an excuse. The displeasure in his eyes did not dissipate, it was highly oppressive. He immediately got out of bed and gave Pearl a cold look. "Since you enjoy rejecting me for another man, I'll sleep in the study tonight!"
After saying that, Oscar walked out of the bedroom without another glance. With a loud thud, he forcefully closed the door.
Pearl got dressed, sat down on the bed, and looked down at her belly, gently stroking it to comfort herself and her child. She whispered softly, "Baby, your daddy is angry; he still doesn't know about your existence. I don't have the courage to tell him, but I will give you a lot of love."
Regardless of how intense Oscar's stare was, she didn't dare to drop her guard and tell him she was pregnant. He had deceived her so many times, even using her heartlessly. Every time, she thought they could live a good life, he proved her otherwise.
This time, she was afraid he would deceive her again, and her unborn child would not exist. So, she could only let her baby suffer.
Pearl used to wake up early every morning, but recently she had been feeling sleepy. There were signs of something different happening. No wonder she felt nauseous and late for work.
This time, after waking up, she didn't rush to do other things but went downstairs to have breakfast first. She specifically asked the maid to make a richer breakfast to supply nutrition for the baby.
Hathaway went downstairs and saw Pearl eating breakfast, and the food was so rich. This was different from her usual habits. She couldn't help but nag, "Why haven't you gone to work yet? You should know that Oscar wakes up at six every morning. As the boss, he can always be punctual for work, but as an employee, you're always late."
Even though Hathaway was mocking her, Pearl happily ate her breakfast. She took a bite of the omelet and calmly replied, "As his wife, no one cares when I go to work."
Seeing her argue, Hathaway walked up to her, displeased, and said, "You dare to argue with me? You and Oscar will get divorced someday. Only Haley is qualified to be my daughter-in-law!"
Pearl finished the last mouthful of food and put down her fork. She knew that Hathaway had grievances accumulated for a long time. Oscar had defied Hathaway several times for her, which had made Hathaway increasingly dislike her.
Pearl stood up and looked directly at Hathaway. "Actually, you never wanted me to have Oscar's child, did you?"
Her sudden statement made Hathaway pause for a moment, and she composed herself, asking, "Why do you say that?"
Pearl said, "You've always wanted Haley to marry Oscar, so how could you possibly want me to have Oscar's child? You also know that Oscar would never touch me. You gave me those fertility drugs and blamed me for not getting pregnant just to demean me."
Since she said these words directly, Hathaway stopped pretending. "You know, I won't allow you to have the Brown family's child," she said triumphantly as she sat down arrogantly. "Oscar's heart belongs to Haley, so of course he would never touch you. Charlie didn't know your true face back then, which is why Oscar married you. If he didn't marry you, he would have been with Haley long ago."
"Since you've made it so clear, don't give me those drugs anymore. I won't take them," Pearl responded coldly, not wanting to face Hathaway's mockery anymore. She grabbed her bag and headed out.
Seeing Pearl's arrogant demeanor, Hathaway knew she had no intention of having a proper conversation. She exclaimed loudly, "Besides, you can't even have children! I've put so much effort into it, yet you still can't get pregnant. It's not my fault! Don't be too pleased, because when you leave this house, you will beg me humbly!"
In the past, no matter how much torture Pearl endured, she didn't dare say a word. But now she would resist; perhaps she felt Oscar cared about her somewhat, so she was no longer afraid of anything.
Hathaway thought to herself, 'Wait, I will teach you a lesson in the future!'
With a mocking sneer, Hathaway packed her things and prepared to go find Haley to get manicures together.
Meanwhile, Pearl went to see the landlady of the nightclub.
"Ms. Harris, good morning."
The landlady was still warm toward her, but had a difficult expression. "There's something I want to discuss with you."
"Likewise," Pearl spoke up.
"Please go ahead." The landlady waited for her to speak.
"I don't want that girl anymore!"
She had carefully considered it last night. If she went through with it and the matter was discovered, it would cause her trouble. Oscar wanted to go look for that girl and said she didn't need to worry, so he wouldn't fully believe her words. If she wanted to ensure her own safety, then she had to be indifferent. If she was pregnant and Oscar ever found out that she had done this, he would be upset and punish her. If she asked for a divorce, giving up everything and forgiving him for using her, based on his guilt toward her, he would be lenient.
But if she brought this girl along, she would be deceiving him. If she angered him, her baby would be harmed. She couldn't do something she shouldn't and make him disgusted.
The landlady paused for a moment and then smiled, saying, "I came to tell you that since you don't want her anymore, I can refund you the money."
Thinking about how hard she had worked all this time, Pearl's expression turned cold as she replied, "No need, consider this money as compensation for the trouble you caused me."
"President Oscar, Secretary Pearl has returned from outside," Harold said as Oscar was walking toward the conference room for an important meeting. Upon hearing Harold's words, he looked up coldly and said, "Her return has nothing to do with me."
Harold hesitated for a moment and said softly, "The woman has been found too."
