Chapter 79 It Was Almost Discovered
Oscar looked at the registration form dropped on the ground, with a hint of doubt in his eyes. He was surprised to see Pearl appearing here early.
He bent down to pick up the fallen registration form.
Seeing this, Pearl nervously narrowed her pupils and hastened to retrieve the registration form.
But he got to it first.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Oscar took a glance at the registration form and found that she was only here for an ultrasound.
Only this one examination was written on it, but it already made him suspicious.
Pearl was loss at words, as if her secret was about to be discovered by him. She quickly snatched the registration form from his hand and put it in her pocket, trying to calm herself down. "I came for a check-up."
Oscar looked at her face and asked again, "You said you had a stomachache, so why did you come for an ultrasound?"
Pearl clenched her fists, afraid to meet his gaze. "I said I came for a check-up."
Oscar had his hand in his pocket, showing his displeasure with her behavior. He furrowed his brows and asked coldly, "Why didn't you tell me when you came to the hospital?"
Pearl said, "You didn't come home last night, and I didn't see you, so I had to come alone."
"Why didn't you call me?"
Pearl bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, and said, "I called you a few days ago, and you didn't answer, so I thought there was no need to call you anymore."
During those days, Oscar intentionally did not answer her calls as he was still angry.
But since yesterday, his phone has been turned on, and he thought she would call him.
After all, he hadn't been home for a long time.
He wondered if she was accustomed to being alone at home.
It seemed he was overthinking.
Without him, she was very comfortable and even able to go to the hospital for a check-up alone.
Pearl looked up at Oscar and saw that he was still wearing the same suit from yesterday, and he hurriedly came to the hospital. She curiously asked, "Why did you come to the hospital so early?"
Oscar replied, "An old friend of mine is hospitalized, so I came to visit him."
He stared at Pearl's face and noticed that something was off. He had always found her strange recently. "You get a check-up every year, why did you suddenly come to the hospital today?"
His gaze shifted to her belly. "Is it serious?"
Noticing his gaze, Pearl instinctively covered her belly and made up an excuse, "My physiological period is not normal, maybe hormonal imbalance. I won't know the result until I have an ultrasound later."
Oscar thought for a moment, realizing that she indeed didn't have her physiological period this month. "Have you done it yet?"
"It's too crowded. I plan to come in the afternoon."
Seeing her pale face, Oscar said again, "I can call the hospital director and arrange for you to have the check-up first."
"No need!" Pearl immediately and strongly refused.
Oscar's face darkened.
Pearl didn't want to take the VIP route. If the hospital director found out about her pregnancy, Oscar would also find out.
By then, she wouldn't be able to explain it to him clearly.
She looked at Oscar and explained, "It's too crowded here. There are even more people waiting to see the doctor. I just took a look earlier, and those pregnant women are sitting on chairs waiting, suffering. I'm a healthy person, so of course I can't cut in line. You don't need to worry about me. I don't have anything to do this afternoon, so I can go to the hospital earlier."
"Pearl, you're too compassionate." Oscar didn't expect her to be so understanding.
Pearl said, "I think what I said is normal. Not everyone deserves compassion. You go do your thing, and don't worry about me."
Oscar was still concerned about her and said, "Since you're getting checked in the afternoon, then let's go to the hospital together. We'll go together in the afternoon."
Even though she had been hurt and sick many times before, he had never cared for her so much.
Even when he was busy with work, he would ignore her feelings.
Now that she didn't need his company anymore, he was figuring out ways to be with her.
This left her feeling somewhat uneasy.
Seeing other people wanting to enter the elevator, Oscar said, "Let's get on the elevator and we can talk later."
They lingered at the elevator door for a long time.
Pearl got into the elevator and stood next to him.
Her hand was in her pocket, holding tightly onto the registration form, feeling a little uncomfortable.
She could meet him any other day, but she just didn't want to see him today.
Oscar stood in the elevator, looking straight ahead, but also considering Pearl's feelings. He asked, "Did you have breakfast?"
Pearl didn't respond, feeling anxious and trying to find a way to escape from his side.
Seeing that she didn't answer, he couldn't help but shift his gaze. He saw Pearl frowning and looking serious, as if she had something on her mind.
"Pearl."
Pearl was startled and looked up at Oscar.
Seeing him staring at her with a suspicious look, her heart raced, and she quickly said, "President Oscar, do you have any orders?"
With a respectful tone as a secretary, she quickly switched to work mode.
However, Oscar was only concerned about her health, not making her work.
"I asked if you had breakfast, not to give you orders!" Oscar was unhappy, his tone becoming heavier.
"I already had." Pearl hadn't had breakfast, but she still had to say that she did.
She was afraid that if she had a meal with Oscar, she would vomit again.
Besides, she couldn't use her stomach discomfort as an excuse anymore.
After all, she was going to the gynecology department now.
If she vomited and went to the gynecology department, there would be a higher chance of suspicion about her being pregnant.
"Okay."
Oscar didn't want to inquire further.
When the elevator reached the 18th floor, Pearl followed his footsteps into the hepatology department.
At a glance, there was only one ward with flower baskets outside the door.
Oscar walked in and called out, "Mr. Collins."
The elderly man lying in bed was almost eighty years old, with white hair. He had just undergone surgery and his body was a bit weak. But when he saw Oscar, there was a smile on his face. "Oscar, you're here. You're busy with work, no need to come see me. I'm already elderly, you don't need to worry about me."
Oscar respected him a lot. "You were comrades with my grandfather. If you're sick, it's only natural for me to come visit you."
Hearing this, Felix Collins sighed. "Charlie also worried about me. After he left politics and went into business, we weren't on the same front anymore. But he would always bring me something good on holidays. For all these years, he had never missed one. He passed away, and as his grandson, you're still concerned about me. I'm unworthy."
Oscar sat next to him, appearing distant but still close. "You saved my grandfather's life, so I should care about you."
Felix laughed and looked at Oscar as if he were his own grandson. "You've been visiting me frequently these days, and my health has improved a lot."
Pearl listened to their conversation, feeling somewhat surprised.
Could it be that Oscar had been too busy to come home these days because he was at the hospital?
"I want to introduce you to someone."
Oscar's gaze suddenly shifted towards Pearl, leaving her slightly confused.
It wasn't until he reached out to her and his warm hand grasped her wrist, leading her to Felix. "This is Pearl, my wife."
Pearl hadn't expected him to suddenly introduce her to Felix.
She hadn't prepared herself for anything and only felt shocked and surprised.
