Chapter 542 They Messed with the Wrong Person
The Eldorians had been through some serious crap before, and Jimena, tagging along with Louis, had her combat skills honed to perfection.
Ralph tried to shake off Jimena but failed miserably, ending up with her foot pinning him down. "Enough already! I'm dragging you to the cops right now!"
Jimena wasn't in the mood for chit-chat with Ralph.
Hearing the mention of the police, Ralph quickly started begging. "I'll give it back! I'll pay double! Just don't take me to the cops!"
Jimena snapped, "Give it, now!"
Ralph didn't dare to refuse.
But Jimena didn't take the double amount.
She grabbed the cash, held Ralph with one hand, and called the cops with the other.
When the police showed up and hauled Ralph away, Jimena handed Kayla some extra cash. "This is all I can do for you. Take care."
Seeing Kayla so young and already hustling to survive, Jimena was reminded of the kids displaced during the past chaos.
She even thought about how awesome it would be if the war had never happened, and her country was peaceful and thriving.
In that case, RavenWing wouldn't have been so caught up in politics, and Louis wouldn't have had so many worries.
"Thank you," Kayla said to Jimena.
As Jimena watched Kayla leave, she heard her speaking on the phone in Eldorian.
She didn't expect Kayla to be a fellow countrywoman!
Jimena felt a strong sense of kinship.
But Kayla had already walked far away.
Just then, Louis's voice chimed in her ear. "You shouldn't have been so impulsive just now."
Even though Jimena was a combat pro, she was still alone in a foreign place. If Ralph had buddies, it could've been a mess.
Jimena said, "I didn't think that far. Besides, you were with me."
At that moment, she just wanted to help Kayla.
But now that Louis mentioned it, he wasn't wrong. Louis was there and wouldn't let her get into trouble.
Louis sighed. "I'm not saying you shouldn't help, but you gotta think about your safety first."
Jimena felt touched and stuck out her tongue. "Got it."
With a big grin on her face, Louis thought Jimena looked especially playful right then.
Jimena linked her arm with his. "So, should we go find Pearl now or keep hunting for snacks?"
Louis noticed Jimena's move.
Jimena quickly caught Louis's gaze and lowered her head but didn't let go. "We're out. If we don't act natural, people will get suspicious. We just bumped into Pearl and a fellow Eldorian. Maybe we'll run into more..."
Louis cut her off gently, "Alright, enough with the excuses. Let's grab something to eat first, then we'll go find Pearl and the others."
"Okay!"
If Louis was cool with her holding his hand in public, maybe, just maybe, she could push for more—like kisses and eventually, marriage.
Just thinking about it made Jimena feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
"What are you daydreaming about?" Louis frowned.
His voice snapped Jimena back to reality.
No way could she let Louis know what she was thinking.
She quickly shook her head. "Nothing. Let's pick up the pace."
Meanwhile, Pearl knew Jimena and Louis wouldn't split up and needed more time together. She and Oscar wandered around, snapping photos as they went.
Not far off, she spotted a movie being filmed and suddenly thought of Penelope, who later became a big-shot director.
Eileen was a famous actress.
They used to text her a lot. Later, everyone got busy. Even though they didn't keep in touch often, their bond stayed strong.
After the honeymoon, some things needed to be planned out.
"If you wanna get into the entertainment biz, I can help you."
Oscar's low, gentle voice whispered in her ear.
Pearl couldn't help but laugh. "I'm over thirty. Should I still jump into the entertainment industry?"
"You don't have to act. You could be a producer, a director, or a screenwriter. What do you like?"
Oscar's words showed his unconditional support. Whatever Pearl wanted, Oscar would make it happen.
Pearl said, "We'll see when we get back."
"Look." Oscar nodded towards Pearl.
She saw Louis and Jimena. Jimena was clinging to Louis's arm, and they were walking and chatting, big smiles on their faces.
"Looks like they're having a blast."
Louis was older than her. At his age, most folks already had a bunch of kids, but Louis had just gotten a girlfriend!
"Yeah. So, are we still traveling together?"
Oscar thought Louis and Jimena needed their own space, and it would be best if they didn't interfere.
Pearl said, "Of course, we should travel together. Otherwise, how would they know where to go? And what do you mean by that?"
"I don't mean to diss them. I just think they need more space than we do," Oscar quickly explained when he saw Pearl's questioning look.
Pearl didn't say anything more.
Meanwhile, Jimena was in trouble.
Ralph, who Jimena had sent to the police station, was out. Now he had called some goons and surrounded Jimena and Louis.
Ralph was super cocky. "I begged you, promised to pay double. But you tricked me and sent me to the cops! Do you even know whose turf this is?"
Jimena's lips curled into a cold smile. "I really don't care."
Ralph waved his hand, and his goons attacked Louis and Jimena, but they had messed with the wrong people!
