Chapter 101 Was Pearl Here?
Seraphina looked at Oscar lying on the hospital bed, his complexion not looking too good. Oscar's interest in Pearl indicates that he still hasn't forgotten about Haley. That makes things easier.
Seraphina thought about Oscar and said to Mrs. Brown, "There's no one taking care of Oscar here, so how about I take care of him?"
"How can that be?" Mrs. Brown didn't want her to stay here. "You're pregnant. You should be careful. Come back to the Brown family with me. Oscar has people to take care of him. Take care of yourself."
Seraphina truly wanted to stay and look after Oscar, especially in Pearl's absence. This may be her chance to build a connection with Oscar. However, faced with Mrs. Brown's words, Seraphina found herself unable to protest and simply replied, "Okay." She reluctantly averted her gaze.
When Oscar got better, he would go back home, and then they could meet frequently. Seraphina held onto this hope once again. Mrs. Brown was concerned about Haley. Oscar was injured and hospitalized, and his relationship with Pearl had completely deteriorated. If Haley arrived, she could leverage the situation.
In Mrs. Brown's mind, she only acknowledged Haley as her daughter-in-law. Mrs. Brown quickly sent a message to Haley: [Haley, Oscar is injured. Come over quickly.]
Meanwhile, Haley was preparing on set, with a scene scheduled to shoot in just half an hour. A famous director directed this play. Although Haley wasn't the female lead, she played a significant supporting role. Thanks to Oscar's efforts, her character was even better than the female lead. If this play aired, it would be a huge success. Haley could transition from a selected actor to one who could choose her roles.
With one successful move, Haley was also very serious. She worked hard to finish the shoot, not dwelling on romantic matters. As long as she persevered, she would soon be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Oscar!
Haley resisted the urge to inquire further. Oscar had helped her to this extent; deep down, she knew she still mattered to him. What couldn't wait in this situation? Just then, Haley received a message from Mrs. Brown. Upon seeing the message, Haley's expression changed drastically, and she immediately stood up. The makeup artist who was working on her almost messed up her eyebrows.
Her assistant reminded, "Ms. Haley, what's up with you? We are putting on makeup!"
Haley sat down, her expression grave, gripping her phone tightly, and said urgently, "Oscar is injured and needs someone to take care of him. I have to go look after him."
The assistant, looking surprised, said, "Ms. Haley, you're in the middle of filming. If you go to take care of President Oscar, how will the shoot go on? This is the role you've been waiting for so long, your big break. Eileen and the others are watching. You absolutely can't act impulsively!"
So, Haley was in a dilemma. This was a golden opportunity for Haley. If she left her work to take care of Oscar, perhaps he would see her in a different light. She had missed one chance already and didn't want to miss a second one. Everything Haley did today was for a reason. She wanted to win back Oscar's heart. Haley wanted him to know that she was the one who deserved to stand by his side.
"No, I have to go to the hospital." Haley stood up, determined. "Mae, tell the director for me. It's an emergency. I need to go to the hospital. Ask him to postpone for a day."
The assistant said, "Ms. Haley..."
Haley made up her mind. "Movies can be shot anytime. Oscar has helped me so many times. I have to show him my worth. I must go to the hospital to take care of him!"
Instantly, all the makeup applied over the past hour was removed. The director saw this and exclaimed, "Haley, what are you doing? We're about to start shooting, and you've removed all your makeup!"
Haley replied, "I have to go to the hospital."
"How can we continue if you go to the hospital?" The director had never dealt with an actor who abruptly halted filming to rush to the hospital.
Haley explained, "Director Oscar is injured and hospitalized. I'm a bit worried and want to check on him."
Upon hearing it was about Oscar, and considering that Oscar introduced Haley, the director decided to give her some respect.
"All right, take your time." Even though he was not pleased about halting work for a day, he had to tolerate it. Haley was relieved. The director didn't fire her for leaving, which was already a good outcome. She smiled and said, "Thank you, director. After the shoot, I'll treat you and Oscar to dinner."
With that, Haley hurried off. The other actors, however, had complaints.
"Director, you can't let one person delay the entire production. My mother is sick, and I haven't left. Why does she get to?"
The director glanced at the discontented group and said, "It's because she's Haley; she has connections!"
This statement left everyone speechless.
"Haley is still so high-profile!" Eileen's assistant whispered.
Eileen glanced over. "The director has spoken. What else do you have to complain about? That's just how Haley is!"
"Why is she different? She lacks acting skills and needs eye drops to cry!"
Eileen remained expressionless, accepting the reality. "People's paths vary. Some are destined to be leads."
Eileen had climbed up from the bottom. She had seen many people with resources become big shots as soon as they entered the industry. Eileen was no longer surprised by such situations.
Haley landed such an important supporting role in her first film, placing her several ranks above others. The director never mistreated her on set. Haley leveraged the fact that most of the investment in this film came from the Brown Group, with Oscar as her benefactor. The director had to provide her with the best hotel and makeup room. Haley was accompanied by seven or eight assistants, all arranged by Oscar. No one dared to offend her. She was treated like a princess, and no one dared to criticize her.
Oscar lay on the hospital bed, showing no signs of improvement but rather a worsening condition.
Haley was worried, "President Oscar, you haven't eaten anything for a day. Please have something."
Oscar's face was cold, and he had no appetite. He just stared at his phone, with work emails and messages from people, but no news from Pearl. Usually, whenever Oscar was slightly injured, she would be extremely nervous. Now that Oscar was seriously ill, Pearl didn't seem to care much.
Oscar looked at Haley again. "Has Pearl been here?"
Haley replied, "Many people have come to visit, and I have sent them away while you were sleeping, but Pearl hasn't come..."
Oscar's eyes darkened, and Haley's words hit him harder than anything else. Pearl hadn't visited since she left. Was Pearl truly not worried about him at all?
Oscar remembered that when he had a minor injury, she was almost in tears. Today, in front of her parents, Pearl had calmly expressed her desire for a divorce. She had become so cold-hearted. The more he thought about it, the more upset Oscar became, almost crushing the needle in his hand.
Seeing the blood from the needle flowing backward, Haley quickly removed it from his hand, "President Oscar, you can't pull on it anymore. If you do, the blood will flow back into the drip bottle."
