Liam clutched his chest and said, "Desiree, are you really gonna hurt your parents like this over a guy?"
Tessa got all anxious and tried to calm her down, "Desiree, your dad's health isn't great. Put down the fruit knife; don't make things worse for him!"
Desiree just laughed sarcastically, still holding the knife. "You tell me not to upset him, but what about me? Have you ever thought about me? I've always done what you wanted, including taking that secretary job at the Brown Group for experience. But what did it get me? I never had a boyfriend. I've finally found someone I like, but you won't let me be with Harold. Is he really that bad?"
If Harold was so terrible, Oscar wouldn't have trusted him and mentored him for years.
Harold was super capable, and people in the industry offered him big bucks, but he always turned them down.
He was loyal to Oscar.
Wasn't that the kind of guy enough to trust?
Plus, when Oscar was gone for five years, Harold ran the Brown Group and never tried to take it over.
Harold's integrity was something everyone should admire.
Seeing the blood on Desiree's neck, Tessa freaked out and pleaded, "Put the knife down. He's not a bad guy, but we want you to be with someone better."
Desiree was desperate and snapped back, "To you, 'better' just means richer. Do you even know the guy you picked? Harold earned everything himself. I believe in him, and I'm willing to work hard with him without any family connections. Maybe your rich guy isn't even as wealthy as Harold!"
She wasn't just defending Harold; as Oscar's secretary, she made a good salary.
Desiree pressed the knife deeper into her neck.
Tessa couldn't take it anymore and yelled, "Alright, as long as you don't hurt yourself, you can be with Harold!"
"As long as Harold can prove himself quickly, I'll allow you to get married," Liam added.
Finally, Desiree put down the knife and walked out the door.
After leaving the Sandvik Villa, Harold thought about what Tessa and Liam said. They had a point.
Since they didn't approve of him and didn't want to give him a chance, he decided not to waste Desiree's time.
So, as he drove away, Harold deleted Desiree's contact info and blocked her on Facebook.
He went back to the Brown Group, ready to bury himself in work.
Even though Harold didn't show it, Oscar noticed everything. Using work as an excuse, he called Harold over and asked, "Did you see Desiree? Did her parents disapprove? Do they want the Brown Group to help?"
Oscar had seen it all, so he got what Harold was going through.
Harold didn't want to get into the whole Sandvik Family drama and said, "Mr. Brown, Desiree and I are done."
Oscar was shocked they broke up so fast. Harold had just proposed to her.
If Desiree didn't like Harold, she wouldn't have been with him, let alone said yes to his proposal.
So, the breakup had to be Harold's doing.
And it was all because of her parents' meddling.
Oscar had been there, and he didn't want Harold and Desiree's love story to end like this.
"You both love each other. Isn't it a shame to just end it?" Oscar put down his work and walked over to Harold. "You're not getting any younger. Finding love and a partner is tough. If you don't cherish it now, how long are you gonna wait? Does Desiree really want to break up with you? If it's just her parents, you should work hard to win them over."
Oscar put a hand on Harold's shoulder. "They just want to see some effort. If you start a company, I'll fund it, and the profits will be yours. You can use your resources. If they want the Brown Group, you can take it. Without you, the Brown Group wouldn't be where it is today."
Back then, the Brown Group was given to Pearl, but she didn't want it and handed all the shares to Magdalen.
When Pearl came back, Magdalen gave them back.
Now the Brown Group was in Oscar's hands again. If Harold needed it, he could have it.
Harold didn't expect Oscar to value him so much.
But even with Oscar's offer, he couldn't accept it. "Mr. Brown, thanks for believing in me. But I've already decided to break up with Desiree, I..."
"Harold, you idiot, what nonsense are you talking about!" Before Harold could finish, he heard Desiree's angry voice.
He looked over and saw Desiree standing there, looking furious.
Desiree had called Harold, but he didn't answer. She sent messages and found out she was blocked. Knowing Harold's workaholic nature, she figured he'd be at the Brown Group.
So she came to the Brown Group and found him.
Hearing Harold's words made her livid.
She had put a knife to her neck and made such harsh statements to her parents for Harold. And Harold, without even talking to her, had blocked her.
Seeing Desiree, Oscar gave Harold a look. "This is between you two. You should sort it out."
With that, Oscar left them alone.
Soon, it was just Harold and Desiree.
Desiree stormed up and punched Harold hard. "Harold, how could you be so heartless? Do you know what I did for you? You said you worked hard for me, but did you really?"
Harold was about to speak when Desiree shouted, "Your so-called effort is blocking me on Facebook and deleting my number?"
