Chapter 735 Cultivation

"Pearl, do you remember that girl, Lila?" Oscar asked.

Pearl nodded.

Of course, she remembered. Lila was the reason they almost lost Emily due to a moment of carelessness.

If she could do it all over again, she would never have gone easy on Lila just because she was young.

"I had someone look into her situation. Her family is really struggling. She's got two older sisters, two older brothers, and two younger brothers. Her dad passed away early, and her mom's trying to support the family on her own. The income there is super low, and one person's earnings can't possibly support such a big family. They've been getting long-term financial help from someone."

By now, Pearl had already figured it out.

The so-called 'benefactor' providing long-term aid was likely a member of the Shadow Organization.

The aid was just a cover; the real intention was to exploit them.

Oscar continued, "There are several other kids like her who are being supported, but they all stayed in their home country and didn't go abroad."

"They must be treating these kids as backups, giving them money to keep them going, and when they need them, they send them abroad to complete tasks," Pearl said, frowning, her emotions mixed.

For these kids, the Shadow Organization was indeed despicable, forcing them to do things they didn't want to do and using their families as leverage.

But without the Shadow Organization, given their economic conditions, they might not have survived this long and would have starved to death.

"We're on the same page. I suspect this organization's target isn't just me," Oscar shared his plan. "I want to go abroad to confront them. You stay home and take care of Emily and Christopher until I get back."

"No way." Pearl didn't hesitate for a second and refused him outright.

She looked up at Oscar, her gaze firm. "We're married. Did you forget our wedding vows? No matter what happens, we face it together. I can't let you handle this alone."

"But Pearl, I'm afraid you'll be in danger," Oscar said, unwilling to relent.

Lumaria was lawless, with poor security, rampant theft, and even murder cases that the police might not bother with.

And then there was the notorious Shadow Organization.

How could he bear to let the woman he loved take such a risk?

"This time, listen to me. Stay home and take care of the kids. We're not like before; we have a son and a daughter now. If we both go, what about the kids? Can you really leave them with Calliope?" Oscar knew Pearl wouldn't agree to that.

Although Calliope had worked for them for a long time and was trustworthy, leaving Emily and Christopher with her for a few days was one thing, but for an extended period was another.

Lumaria was far away, and if something happened to Emily and Christopher, they wouldn't be able to return quickly.

"Harold and Desiree are still on their honeymoon, and who knows when they'll be back. Emily and Christopher need you."

"No, I've already thought of someone," Pearl said, shaking her head. "Today, I took them to the hospital to see RavenWing. Before we go abroad, we can leave Emily and Christopher with him."

They didn't trust many people, but RavenWing was different. Pearl felt at ease leaving Emily and Christopher with him.

"Will he have time?" Oscar was still reluctant to take Pearl along.

So he kept finding reasons to dissuade her. "Last time we went out as a family, he couldn't help. This time we'll be gone even longer. I think we should forget it."

"Oscar, stop making excuses. My legs are my own. Even if you don't take me with you, I can still find my way to you."

Pearl saw right through him. "I'm not some delicate, fragile woman. Are you afraid I'll be a burden?"

"Of course not," Oscar said, pulling her into a tight embrace.

He knew Pearl was capable, smart, and brave.

But as a husband, he felt he should protect his family.

"We're both parents. We should protect our kids together, not put all the pressure on you. Oscar, I'm going with you." Pearl's voice was gentle yet firm.

Looking into her eyes, Oscar finally nodded.

They held each other tightly, and he kissed her forehead. "We'll go together. No matter what happens, we'll face it together. Meeting you was the luckiest thing that ever happened to me."

Pearl breathed in his scent.

She felt the same way.

Oscar wasn't just a good father; he was a great husband. She had no regrets being with him.

"But before we go abroad, I want to look into RavenWing's situation. I suspect he's seriously ill but won't tell me and has even conspired with the doctor to keep it from me," Pearl explained briefly about what happened today.

If RavenWing wasn't sick, the doctor wouldn't have acted that way.

It was clear the doctor wanted to say something but had promised the patient to keep it a secret.

"He's sick?" Oscar frowned.

At first, he didn't like RavenWing, but RavenWing had genuinely tried to make amends and always thought of Pearl.

Over time, Oscar accepted RavenWing as family. Now that RavenWing was in trouble, he was naturally worried.

"He's a doctor himself. For him to hide an illness, it must be serious, possibly with a short life expectancy."

"That's what I'm worried about. He's probably hiding it from Louis too. I can't rest easy with him like this. So we'll split up. I'll investigate his situation, and you handle the Shadow Organization," Pearl planned.

They talked for a while longer before opening the door.

Christopher was standing at the top of the stairs, holding a toy, looking conflicted.

He wanted to ask Oscar and Pearl for help.

But they had gone into the room to discuss something important. If he knocked, he'd interrupt them.

So he waited at the top of the stairs until they came out.
