Chapter 318 I Am Her Friend
They were stunned.
"Why not?" Pearl asked.
Penelope smiled. "I'm not a big director. I've done a few documentaries and won some awards, but I don't make much money. I've been writing this script for five years and can't find investors. The competition is fierce, and my script gets no attention. I want to make it myself, but the funding fell through. I just can't do it!"
Pearl thought there was another reason.
"This script is really good!" Pearl encouraged. "Eileen and I both think it's well-written."
"Don't give up!" Eileen chimed in. "You still have us supporting you."
Penelope felt encouraged but had to face reality. "Thanks, but I need to make money first. I've been rushing to finish some work to earn quickly. I'm happy with this script, but investors don't like it!"
Penelope was still determined but needed to gather energy to make the TV series.
"When I do make it, I'll definitely ask you to audition," Penelope told Eileen. "You were the first to come to me."
Eileen replied, "You have great talent. Don't doubt yourself. Investors follow trends. It doesn't mean you're not good enough."
Penelope smiled, feeling somewhat comforted.
They had gone through so much to find her; they couldn't give up easily.
Pearl didn't want to.
"How much would it cost to make this TV series?" she asked.
"At least five million," Penelope said. "I don't have that kind of money right now."
"I'll be your first investor," Pearl said. "This TV series must be made, and it has to be perfect!"
Penelope's eyes lit up. "Do you have that much money?"
"I have some," Pearl said. "And I don't like to see my expectations fall through. This TV series has to be made!"
Penelope screamed with excitement and hugged Pearl. "You're amazing! You're my savior! You've made my dream of being a director come true!"
Pearl felt a bit uncomfortable with the hug but accepted it gladly.
Eileen looked at Penelope and said, "I'll work for free. Consider it my contribution to your dream!"
Penelope couldn't believe it. "Really? Eileen, you're too kind."
She almost cried. "Honestly, if I could make this TV series, I would definitely ask you. I wrote this script with you in mind!"
"Then we must be destined to work together," Pearl said, surprised by the turn of events. She had initially seen the script and noted its lack of investors.
Penelope's eyes reddened, but she composed herself. "Don't worry. I'll work hard and won't let you down!"
They were the first to support her.
She would never forget this kindness.
Pearl had essentially gambled all her savings on this project.
Making this decision made Pearl break out in a small sweat, feeling like she was dreaming.
How many people had five million dollars in their lifetime? This amount of money was something most people would never see in their lifetime.
As they left Penelope's studio, Pearl's legs were trembling, and she felt like she was floating, as if she had just left a casino.
Eileen noticed Pearl's silence. "You were so confident coming in, but now you seem anxious. Do you regret it?"
"I don't regret it," Pearl said. "I just never thought I'd be in this position. I used to be just a secretary, and now I'm making a huge gamble. It scares me!"
Eileen put her arm around Pearl's shoulder. "You're my biggest backer now. I'll rely on you in the future!"
"Don't say that!" Pearl said. "This is just the beginning. When the TV series is done and gets good feedback, then we can relax. We must win this time!"
Eileen understood. She and Pearl were both taking a big risk.
Their success or failure hinged on this.
She didn't know why she chose such a risky path. She didn't have to go this far, but maybe it was Pearl's determination that inspired her.
It ignited her fighting spirit, making her want to stand at the top.
She was no longer the Eileen from a small town; she wanted to be Queen Eileen!
Eileen smiled. "We must win!"
By the time they returned to the office, it was already after hours.
Pearl felt a bit tired.
She didn't know why, but she seemed to get tired easily, even though she hadn't walked much.
'Was it because of the pregnancy?'
But she had been working fine before.
Pearl couldn't think too much about it. She still had to prepare for the new TV series.
Working late into the night, Pearl felt dizzy but didn't notice her pale face.
She just thought she was tired and fell asleep on her desk.
At this point, Jeffery, seeing she hadn't returned, came to her workplace and found her asleep on her desk with some documents on her computer.
Seeing her pale face, he cut his wrist without hesitation, letting the blood drip into the cross.
The cross bracelet absorbed his blood, becoming brighter and more transparent.
This scene was witnessed by Adrian, who had just arrived.
He had just returned and hadn't had time to contact Pearl.
He brought some gifts for Pearl.
He was excited but paused when he saw this.
Jeffery bandaged his wrist, looking paler and weaker than usual, but he heard some noise. "Who's there?"
He turned around and saw Adrian. Jeffery's face was expressionless, but a coldness in his eyes was almost overflowing.
He stared at Adrian, holding a scalpel in his hand, and spoke calmly, "Are you an employee here?"
"I'm Pearl's friend," Adrian responded. "What's wrong with Pearl?"
Jeffery's face remained impassive as he slowly walked towards Adrian.
His gaze was sharp and cold as he suddenly raised the scalpel and aimed it at Adrian's heart!
He didn't want Adrian to know about this.
Fortunately, Adrian dodged in time.
He grabbed Jeffery's hand and quickly said, "I haven't seen her for a while, and now she's like this. Is she in danger? What's your relationship with her?"
Adrian was guessing, thinking continuously. He looked at Jeffery, feeling that Jeffery wasn't a good person, but he used his blood to nourish Pearl, indicating that Pearl was in danger.
"I haven't seen you before, but you seem close to Pearl. Was she with you when she disappeared? Did she fall into some organization? Is she being targeted now?" Adrian frowned, having been investigating the matter all along. "I've known Pearl for a long time. I'm her friend, not her enemy!"
