Chapter 816 Are You Planning to Join Me

The Egan Group looked just like it always did, no signs of any trouble.

Saskia walked up to the front desk and asked to see Nathaniel.

The receptionist chuckled when she heard Nathaniel's name. "He's a big-shot lawyer in Willow Creek now. Why didn't you go to his law firm instead of coming here?"

"He's not here? Did he say when he'd be back?" Saskia was surprised. She had just talked to Nathaniel on the phone, so how could he not be here?

Where could he have gone at such a critical moment?

The receptionist shook her head. "Sorry, I don't know Mr. Egan's schedule. If you want to find out, you might want to call him directly."

Saskia sighed, not wanting to make things difficult for the receptionist, and decided to leave.

Just then, the receptionist called out to her. "Wait a minute, are you Ms. Fuller?"

She looked at Saskia uncertainly, realizing she hadn't asked for her identity.

Saskia was puzzled. "Yes, I am. Why?" she replied.

The receptionist said, "Mr. Egan left a message before he left. If Ms. Fuller comes by, you can wait in his office."

Saskia murmured, "So, he'll be back soon?"

She thought for a moment and decided to stay and wait for Nathaniel.

She wanted to know how Nathaniel was doing and if she could help.

Two hours passed.

When Nathaniel returned after meeting with a client, Saskia had fallen asleep on the couch. Her soft hair was slightly tousled, and she looked utterly exhausted.

Nathaniel, equally tired, softened at the sight of her.

He moved quietly.

In her sleep, Saskia felt someone gently touching her, making her feel ticklish.

She swatted at the air and mumbled, "Benjamin, stop it."

Then, she heard a soft laugh.

Saskia woke up immediately and saw Nathaniel's face close to hers.

Up close, Nathaniel's flawless features were even more striking.

"You were sleeping so soundly, so I didn't want to wake you. But you woke up anyway. There's a rest room over there if you want to sleep a bit more," Nathaniel said, pointing to the rest room. His body slowly moved back, acting nonchalant.

Saskia felt a bit embarrassed.

She had come to see Nathaniel but ended up sleeping in his office.

"No, I'm up now," she said hurriedly.

Nathaniel didn't seem to mind.

He looked like he had rushed back, with a hint of weariness in his eyes.

Saskia's heart softened a bit. "You haven't been sleeping well these past few days?" she asked.

"Yeah, there's a project at the Egan Group that I'm following up on," Nathaniel said lightly.

In reality, it wasn't that simple.

The Egan Group had acquired a piece of land, but a resident refused to move. Several negotiations had failed, and during one heated argument, an elderly person had a heart attack. Although the elderly person was fine, the conflict escalated, with the other party now blaming the Egan Group for the illness.

This was a hassle for the Egan Group, but for Nathaniel, it was just part of the job.

However, there had been a lot of public opinion these past few days.

Nathaniel didn't want to burden Saskia with this. It was his personal matter. "I'll handle it," he said.

Saskia didn't know what to say.

She said, "I've thought about your suggestion..."

Nathaniel suddenly looked up, and the depth of his eyes made it hard for Saskia to hold his gaze. "Are you planning to join me?" he asked.

Saskia nodded slightly. "Your offer is very good. I don't see a reason to refuse."She really wanted to help Nathaniel out.

She hadn't planned on agreeing so quickly, but seeing how exhausted he looked, she couldn't help but change her mind.

That evening, Nathaniel invited her to dinner.

Saskia wanted to refuse.

But Nathaniel quickly said, "Think of it as a celebration for your new job. There's a restaurant I think you'll like. We can pick up Benjamin and go together."

The mention of Benjamin left Saskia speechless.

Benjamin rarely went out.

Saskia always felt guilty towards Benjamin and wanted to make it up to him.

So Nathaniel drove back to pick up Benjamin, who the housekeeper was looking after.

The housekeeper hadn't started dinner yet, so Saskia told her not to bother.

Benjamin was excited about going out to eat. He exclaimed, "Mom, what are we going to eat? I want barbecue!"

Saskia's refusal was on the tip of her tongue, but seeing his bright eyes, she said, "Okay, we'll have barbecue."

Benjamin was thrilled.

Seeing him smile, Saskia couldn't help but smile, too. She looked at Nathaniel. "I'm sorry, but we might not be able to go to the restaurant you mentioned."

Before she could finish, Nathaniel instructed the driver, "Find a good barbecue place." He asked, "What were you saying?"

"Nothing," Saskia said, lowering her eyes, her heart racing.

They arrived at a barbecue restaurant.

Unlike other places, this one was nicely decorated, with each table separated and everything clean and tidy.

This reassured Saskia.

She had nothing against barbecue, but with Benjamin, she had to be mindful of hygiene.

When the food arrived, Saskia and Nathaniel didn't eat much, mostly watching Benjamin enjoy his meal.

Seeing Benjamin's face covered in oil, Saskia took a napkin and carefully wiped his mouth. "Look at you, it's all over your face."

"Mom, help me wipe," Benjamin said, picking up a piece of grilled eggplant dripping with oil and handing it to Nathaniel.

Saskia wanted to stop him.

But it was too late.

Saskia expected Nathaniel to refuse, but to her surprise, he paused for a while and took it.

He placed the eggplant on his plate and started eating with utensils.

Nathaniel had an inexplicable elegance and grace when he ate.

Saskia hid her shock and finished wiping Benjamin's mouth and hands. She said, "Mr. Egan doesn't like these. Don't give him too much."

She was worried that Nathaniel might have trouble digesting it.

Benjamin looked up, confused, not understanding what Saskia meant.

At that moment, Nathaniel's calm voice came. "It's fine. I can eat it, as long as it's from Benjamin."

This reassurance instantly dispelled Benjamin's doubts.

Saskia felt a mix of emotions but just glanced at Nathaniel and said nothing.

On the way back, Benjamin, tired from playing, finally quieted down.

After putting him to sleep, Saskia told Nathaniel, "You don't have to spoil Benjamin so much. He used to be under my strict care, and he managed just fine. Spoiling kids too much isn't good."

"I just want to make up for what he missed," Nathaniel said seriously, looking at her.

Saskia was speechless.

That overwhelming sensation of her heart racing came back again.

She quickly looked away, only to see her phone light up with a message.

Seeing the words, she was startled and didn't have time to think. She exclaimed, "Quick, turn the wheel!"

The driver was momentarily stunned but instinctively followed her command.
