Chapter 903 Ungrateful

Aaron's symptoms that day were deemed to be adverse reactions from drug use.

From that point on, Lyra was cleared of any suspicion.

Aaron still tried to deny it vehemently, "I didn't use drugs, this is a setup. Lyra, we did so much for you. How could you do this to me? Are you even human?"

The police were pulling him away, but he refused to leave, causing a commotion throughout the hospital.

The hallway was crowded with people.

Countless eyes were fixed on Lyra and Aaron, and the whispers were endless.

But Lyra didn't care about any of that anymore. She looked at Aaron with clear eyes, "You did raise me, but so what? Six million dollars, which I owed, has long been repaid."

Six million dollars.

For a wealthy family, it might not be much, but for her, it was an astronomical figure.

Lyra didn't know how long it would take to save up that amount.

And the Hill family, from her childhood to adulthood, had invested in her, but not even fifty thousand dollars, let alone six million. She had to find ways to pay for her tuition and cover her living expenses.

Did the Hill family ever care for her in the slightest?

The only person she couldn't bear to leave was Flora.

But Flora was gone, and with her, any reason to stay with the Hill family was completely gone.

Aaron shouted, "What about Flora? Flora's death and my crippled leg are all because of you. Isn't that something you owe us?"

Thinking of Flora hit a sore spot, and Lyra felt an indescribable pain in her heart.

She trembled slightly.

The wavering in her heart was easily wiped away when she thought of Jeffery.

In fact, many things didn't require him to personally come and force Aaron to get tested; she could have done it herself.

But he still came.

At the time, she didn't think much of it, but now, as the details emerged, Lyra realized that perhaps he did it for her to see. He was teaching her how to deal with such scoundrels.

To deal with scoundrels, she had to be tougher than they were.

"You know why you got into that car that day. If you think I'm the culprit, the police are right here. Let them investigate. If it turns out I did it, I won't resist. I'll accept whatever sentence they give me. Do you dare?"

Aaron fell silent; of course, he didn't dare.

After the car accident that left him disabled, he went crazy trying to investigate the accident.

But in the end, the police's explanation was clear: it was an accident, not Lyra's plot, nor was it murder. If he wanted to blame someone, he could only blame his own bad luck.

Even if they re-investigated now, the result would likely be the same as before.

Lyra turned to the police and asked, "I want to know, what will happen to him after you take him away?"

The police told her he would be sent to a rehab center.

She felt relieved.

And just like that, Aaron was taken away.

But the matter wasn't over.

Early the next morning, Heath and Elowen, having heard that Aaron was taken away, rushed to Lyra. Without a word, Elowen slapped her.

"How could you send him to a rehab center? Is that a place for people? You better get him out now, or I won't let you off!" Elowen screamed, grabbing Lyra.

Heath favored his son over his daughter.

Elowen also treated her only son like a treasure, even though Aaron looked down on her, constantly insulting and hitting her, she still accepted it willingly.

Lyra took the slap, and her cheek quickly turned red.

She was the type of person who bruised easily and took a long time to heal.

With her good skin, the bright red handprint stood out clearly on her face, making people shudder.

Elowen took a step back, not out of guilt, but because Lyra's gaze scared her.

"What kind of look is that? Did I hit you wrongly?"

"No." Lyra seemed to feel no pain from the burning sensation on her face. At this moment, the pain was the best thing for her, keeping her clear-headed. "In fact, I should thank you."

This slap completely woke her up from her longing for family.

Elowen stammered for a while.

When Lyra was weak, she could rush up and slap her. But when Lyra became strong, Elowen was scared.

Looking at Elowen's timid appearance, Lyra suddenly remembered the past. In her memories, Elowen always seemed to be this way: timid, cowardly, and honest.

She was just following the thoughts of her generation.

Her husband and son were always right, and no matter how her child treated her, she had to accept it unconditionally.

"I used to think you were pitiful." Lyra smiled.

"But now I don't think so. Your suffering, although caused by others, is partly your own doing."

Heath didn't want to listen to the two women talking, breathing heavily. he stepped forward, "Release Aaron!"

Lyra looked at him calmly, "Sorry, I can't do that."

Heath was so angry that he wanted to hit her.

But as his hand came down, Jeffery grabbed it.

Lyra looked at Jeffery, who had somehow appeared behind her, and felt she had never seen him so furious.

His face was full of suppressed anger.

It felt like he was about to explode at any moment.

"This isn't a place where you can just hit people. Get out." Jeffery said word by word.

Heath found he couldn't break free!

He looked at Jeffery with a mix of hesitation and fear.

This man didn't look strong, but how could he have such strength?

He didn't know that Jeffery had once been thrown into a fighting pit, where he fought a lion barehanded and won.

He could kill a lion; breaking Heath's hand would only take a moment.

Jeffery tightened his grip, listening to Heath's screams, and coldly threw him aside, "I can't control other places, but in the hospital, I make the rules. Get out. If you don't, you won't be able to leave."

It was just a threat.

But in Heath's eyes, it was real. He believed Jeffery could do it!

Watching them leave in a panic, Lyra gratefully said to Jeffery, "Thank you, you've helped me again. I don't even know how to thank you."

Jeffery looked at her, "Did you read the medical records I gave you last time?"

Lyra was surprised by his sudden change of topic, and after a moment, she said, "I did."

Jeffery's expression relaxed.

Then he asked her if she had any thoughts.

So Lyra boldly shared some of her ideas and suggestions.

The two of them started discussing work, and the atmosphere was surprisingly harmonious.

Watching Lyra speak with confidence and ease, Jeffery's lips unconsciously curved into a smile.

This was how she should be.

When Lyra quieted down and realized what she had just said, she apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Gray, those were just my personal thoughts."

"I want you to handle the surgery."
