Chapter 490 Mr. Stewart

The military doctor gave Christopher emergency treatment, checked him out, and diagnosed him with asthma. "He needs to keep his meds with him all the time."

Pearl felt a chill when she heard that.

She knew asthma needed constant meds, or an attack could be deadly.

She couldn't bear to think what might've happened if Christopher hadn't met her and wasn't in the camp. Would he have had an attack with no one to help?

But Christopher was holding her hand tightly.

She remembered him saying he didn't want to go to the embassy; he wanted to stay with her. Maybe he felt she was the only one who cared.

A violent cough snapped her out of her thoughts. Christopher was awake.

His eyes were quiet but sad as he looked at her.

He shook his head, and Pearl got it. He didn't want to be separated from her or sent to the embassy.

Christopher needed care; any slip-up could be fatal.

She had promised Louis to go to the Eldorians, so she had to do that first, then bring Christopher along and have Jeffery cure him.

Pearl held his hand, gently stroking it. "If you want to stay with me, then stay. When you get better, I'll help you find your family."

Christopher shook his head again.

Pearl's heart ached; it was hard to believe such a young kid had no family.

What she didn't know was that Christopher just didn't want to leave her.

Louis saw all this and frowned. When Pearl left the tent, he walked up to her.

"We're leaving tonight. If you're worried about him, take him with you," Louis said, pursing his lips.

Pearl hadn't expected Louis to stick around.

And he was willing to compromise for her.

Even though the Eldorians had done well recently, Pearl couldn't forget their past actions.

"Why insist on taking me back now?" she asked, feeling heavy-hearted.

Louis replied, "Because it's been so long, I thought you'd let it go. And we've been working hard all these years. Pearl, we can't let Kevin get stronger."

Kevin's hatred came from power and Haley's death.

Pearl stayed silent.

Louis added, "That kid showed up out of nowhere. Be careful."

Being soft-hearted could get one hurt.

Louis just didn't want Pearl to get hurt.

After five years and so much happening, how could Pearl not know this?

In war, many kids were displaced, injured, and homeless.

The military trusted her with Christopher because she was a journalist from Tranquiloria. They took him to the embassy, but due to some issues, she had to care for him a bit longer.

All signs pointed to this being an accident, not a setup.

Pearl said, "Got it. Let's leave today."

She didn't have much stuff, and Christopher only had two sets of clothes that fit in a small backpack. But she made it clear to Louis, "I have unfinished business here. I'll go with you to the Eldorians, but I can only stay for three days."

Three days didn't include travel time.

That was short, but Pearl agreeing to go was already a win.

Christopher quietly followed Pearl, not making a fuss.

Louis noticed they looked somewhat alike, but he knew Pearl and Oscar's child had been dead for five years.

Even if the child hadn't died, Pearl had searched for five years with no leads, and there had been no news of Oscar either.

Christopher's resemblance was just a coincidence.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang.

"Mr. Mitchell, we're under ambush," Giovanni's voice came through.

Louis ordered, "Tell everyone to get ready."

Pearl saw a fierce glint in Louis's eyes.

Louis was holding a gun.

They got out to fight, leaving Pearl and Christopher in the car. Afraid of scaring Christopher, she held him protectively.

But he stayed calm, unperturbed.

The gunfire outside was deafening.

Pearl didn't know if they'd die here today. But for now, she could only stay in the car and not cause trouble for Louis.

No one knew how much time had passed, but finally, the gunfire stopped.

The surroundings fell silent, and Pearl felt worried. She told Christopher, "Hide under the seat and don't get out. I'll go check."

Louis and Giovanni were fighting, and she was very concerned, fearing something might happen to Louis. Although she didn't acknowledge RavenWing, Louis had been good to her, always considering her for the past five years.

Even now, Louis was protecting her.

The blood ties between them could never be severed.

But when she got out, she saw Louis and Giovanni standing not far away with their men, facing a man in a silver mask.

His silhouette was unmistakably familiar, and the silver mask gleamed in the sunlight.

Pearl's breath caught as his image overlapped with Oscar's in her mind.

She heard someone respectfully say, "Mr. Stewart, all personnel are unharmed. Mr. Charles Stewart is urging us to return quickly."

"Maybe we can collaborate in the future," he said, his voice raspy and deep, as if his throat had been damaged. After saying this, he turned and walked away.

'This wasn't Oscar's voice.' Pearl's throat tightened, and her eyes stung with unshed tears.

If it were Oscar, and he had already helped, how could he not come to her?

Pearl clenched her palm hard, trying to suppress her emotions.

When Louis turned and saw her, his expression became serious. "Didn't I tell you to stay in the car? Pearl, do you have a gun for self-defense?"

Pearl nodded.

But Louis's expression stayed stern. "You mustn't do this again. It's dangerous here. I can't let anything happen to you!"
