Chapter 611 He Was Awake
Henry stood there, feeling a bit left out, watching Pearl and Oscar with a tinge of jealousy. He couldn't help but wonder when he'd finally earn a spot in Janetta's heart, just like they had.
"Hey, you seemed to know who did this earlier. Spill the beans, and I'll help you get justice," Henry said, clearly fixated on the issue.
Janetta shook her head, a bitter smile on her face. "How would I know? I just can't wrap my head around why someone would do this. What's in it for them?"
"There's always a reason. Whoever trashed this place wanted to mess with you. What they gain depends on their beef with you," Henry replied, running his fingers over the graffiti on the wall. "This doesn't look like your competitor's work."
Janetta sighed and walked over to join Pearl and Oscar, who were deep in conversation.
Pearl and Oscar were piecing things together. They both suspected Savannah, but nailing the person who smashed the glass was key to proving it.
Pearl pointed out the footprints on the ground. "It's a woman. I bet it's that chick who's been tailing us."
Oscar shook his head. "Nah, it's a distraction. Only a guy would have the guts to pull this off at night."
Janetta chimed in, "Doesn't matter if it's a guy or a girl. We just need to confront Savannah. If she doesn't fess up, we'll trick her into it."
Oscar nodded in agreement.
Before he could lay out his plan, Henry stepped in. "Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown, let me handle this. I want to prove myself to Janetta. Give me a shot."
They exchanged uneasy glances with Janetta. She turned away, and they were about to refuse when Henry added, "Hold up. Do you know who runs this street? The police chief of the southern district is from my family, the Doe Family. If I need any help, he's got my back."
Oscar grinned. "Didn't know that. Alright, Mr. Doe, we'll let you take the lead. By the way, got any lunch plans? How about we grab a bite together?"
Pearl caught on and added, "Yeah, Mr. Doe, you've done so much for Janetta. We owe you a proper thank you."
Henry, eager to get closer to them, quickly booked a private room at a nearby hotel.
Janetta, feeling a bit awkward, kept signaling Pearl to cancel the lunch.
Pearl played dumb. If Henry could handle Savannah, it would make things easier.
At the hotel, Janetta got a message that Damian had woken up. This time, it wasn't through Pearl but directly from Damian.
Seeing the message, Janetta got distracted.
Pearl noticed and whispered, "What's up?"
Janetta hugged her and said, "I suddenly feel sick. Maybe my period's coming. Can you come to the restroom with me?"
Pearl nodded, and they headed to the restroom.
On the way, Janetta told her that Damian had woken up and texted her, asking her to come to the hospital ASAP.
She showed Pearl the message, which was full of bossy demands.
"Just ignore him. Let's see what he does. If he has the guts to come here, we won't back down. Oscar's here, and worst case, Henry can hold him off, right?" Pearl didn't want Janetta to see Damian. Her gut told her there was some deep, dark secret between them. She didn't want to dig into it but also didn't want Janetta getting tangled up with Damian again.
Janetta didn't want to see Damian either, and hearing Pearl's words, she immediately deleted the message.
Back in the hotel lobby, Henry walked in from outside and approached them, pulling out a bouquet of roses from behind his back. "Janetta, I wish you happiness every day, with a handsome guy like me by your side," Henry said, handing the flowers to Janetta with a cheesy grin. "I've wanted to give you roses for a long time but never found the right moment. When I heard from Mr. Brown that you were in critical condition recently, I was so scared. I decided not to wait for the right moment but to give them to you whenever I wanted."
Janetta instinctively wanted to refuse, but Pearl took the flowers and put them in her hands, whispering, "Just enjoy the moment. Don't overthink it, okay?"
Janetta nodded, though she still felt a bit reluctant to accept the roses.
They then returned to their seats. Oscar and Pearl sat together, leaving Janetta to sit with Henry on the other side.
The atmosphere felt different, and Janetta wanted to escape.
Suddenly, Henry pulled out a necklace, saying, "The first necklace designed by the famous designer Francina, as my first gift to you."
Janetta was surprised and hesitant.
Facing Henry's smile, she had a moment of wanting to accept, but reason pulled her back to reality.
The hotel door was forcefully pushed open, and Damian stormed in, shouting, "Didn't you get my message?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Janetta remained calm.
She was sitting inside, with Henry blocking her outside, believing Damian couldn't do anything to her.
Damian indeed couldn't do anything to her, but seeing the necklace, his anger seemed to burst from his eyes, turning them blood-red. "Who is he, and why did he give you a necklace?"
"He not only gave me a necklace but also roses," Janetta said, picking up the flowers on the table, smelling them, and smiling happily. "He said if I was willing, he would be my lifelong reliance."
Damian glared coldly at Henry, who smirked confidently.
Henry felt that Damian was jealous, but he was confident that Janetta would choose him over Damian.
Clearing his throat, Henry asked softly, "The desserts here are quite good. Would you like to try some?"
"Ridiculous. If you were sincere, you wouldn't ask if she wanted it. Actions speak louder than words," Damian snapped, trying to move towards Janetta, but Henry immediately moved his chair back, blocking his way.
Damian growled, "Get out of the way!"
Henry smiled smugly, "What if I don't?"
"Then don't blame me for being rude," Damian said and tried to make a move, but he suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed to the ground.
"Quick, take him to the hospital," Janetta exclaimed.
Oscar picked up Damian and ran out. He knew that if something happened to Damian here, Savannah would never let Janetta go.
