Chapter 756 You Can't Be Apart for a Moment
Marlon caught up to her and said, "Hey, from the moment we met today, I could tell something was up with you. If you need any help, just let me know. We've known each other since we were kids, after all."
He used to have a crush on Saskia back then.
But then his family moved away, and they lost touch. That teenage crush got buried deep inside him.
Now that Marlon had a girlfriend, there was no chance for anything between him and Saskia. Still, he wanted to help her out of their old bond.
"Thanks, but I really don't need any help. I can handle everything on my own," Saskia said, pausing to thank him.
She genuinely didn't want to owe anyone any favors.
Marlon had his own life, and Saskia had hers. She didn't want to drag anyone else into her problems.
"Okay, but if you don't mind, can we sit down and chat for a minute?" Marlon asked again.
This time, Saskia agreed.
They talked briefly about the past few years. When Marlon heard that Saskia's son Benjamin was sick, he frowned. "What about his father? Benjamin isn't just your kid. How can he ignore you two?"
"He doesn't even know Benjamin exists," Saskia said with a bitter smile. "If he knew, they would have forced me to get an abortion back then."
By "they," she meant Robbie and Jade. They would never allow the Egan family heir to have a mother like Saskia.
Men and women were different; for a man, having a child was often much simpler. He could have as many as he wanted without facing the same sacrifices.
From the moment she decided to keep Benjamin, Saskia knew she would be responsible for him alone and did not expect help from anyone.
"You should have considered terminating the pregnancy. A woman raising a sick child on her own sacrifices her entire life," Marlon said, his voice heavy with disapproval.
He was thinking from Saskia's perspective.
Saskia understood this and replied, "I love him. He's my only hope, my family. Since I got pregnant, it means we were meant to be."
Marlon was speechless.
He was at a loss for words.
Taking out his phone, he said, "Let's share our contact information. I'm a teacher now, so maybe your kid will be in my class one day."
Saskia couldn't refuse such a simple request.
After exchanging contact information, she stood up, made some small talk, and prepared to return to the hospital room.
Just then, Nathaniel arrived.
From a distance, he saw Saskia talking and laughing with another man. A surge of anger rose within him.
As he got closer, he could hear their conversation more clearly. Saskia mentioned her child several times.
So, the twenty thousand dollars was for prenatal care and to have another man's child?
Nathaniel's face twisted with fury as he seized Saskia's arm and pulled her roughly back.Saskia almost fell but managed to steady herself.
"Who the hell are you? There are cameras all over this hospital. I warn you, don't mess with women in public!" Marlon rolled up his sleeves, ready to throw down with Nathaniel.
Nathaniel wasn't intimidated.
He had been working out since college, initially because Saskia liked guys with abs. Over time, it became a habit.
He enjoyed the feeling of intense workouts.
Marlon was no match for him.
"Don't fight," Saskia quickly interjected, stepping between them.
Turning to Marlon, she said, "I know him. You should leave."
"But he just tried to use violence against you. If he's this rough in front of me, he'll be worse when I'm gone," Marlon said, worried.
Every word Marlon said only fueled Nathaniel's anger.
Nathaniel's teeth clenched.
He had been so worried about Saskia, canceling a meeting and running red lights to get here quickly, afraid something had happened to her.
But what did he find?
Saskia laughing with another man, who then threatened Nathaniel!
"Saskia," Nathaniel said through gritted teeth, full of menace.
At this, Saskia continued to persuade Marlon, "I'm really fine. Please go, I'm begging you."
If Marlon stayed, it would only make Nathaniel angrier.
"Why are you so keen to get rid of him? Why don't we all sit down and talk? Or I could grab a deck of cards, and we can play a game," Nathaniel said, shooting a glare at Marlon.
It seemed to Nathaniel that Saskia had been with Marlon all these years and was even pregnant with his child.
He thought to himself that Saskia was truly impressive. While he was in deep anguish, she was able to laugh and carry on—she really was something else.
"I have nothing to say to you," Marlon warned Nathaniel again. "A man's fists should protect women, not bully them. If you're a real man, watch your behavior."
Nathaniel laughed, finding it amusing.
He asked Saskia, "Don't you know if I'm a real man?"
Saskia was at a loss for words.
She was caught between Nathaniel and Marlon, feeling like she was being squeezed into a hotdog.
She couldn't afford to offend Nathaniel, and Marlon was well-meaning. She couldn't harshly send him away.
She could only gently persuade Marlon to leave.
However, to Nathaniel, this looked like lingering feelings.
After Marlon left, Nathaniel pushed Saskia onto a chair and touched her stomach.
"Are you crazy? This is a hospital. There are people everywhere. You two made such a scene that many are already looking over it. Do you want to make a porn movie here?" Saskia was so scared she could barely speak.
In a hotel room or at home, she could go along with him.
But not in a hospital.
She wouldn't allow herself to be that brazen.
"Saskia, what are you thinking? Do you think I'm as desperate as you, unable to go without a man?" Nathaniel retorted and didn't make any inappropriate moves.
