Chapter 1000 Someone Bullied Millie
Billy looked frustrated and tapped Millie on the head. "You really believe that? Have you lost it since coming to Hchilia?"
Millie rubbed her head, feeling a bit hurt. "But Randall said Mia hired a witch doctor for a ritual. He saw two ghostly figures fighting."
‘’A witch doctor? That has to be a scam.’ Billy squinted but stayed quiet, letting Millie continue. "He also said I'm a jinx. That it's my fault Stov was killed by Emmeline. Anyone around me will have bad luck.
Randall yells at me and tells other kids not to play with me. He even warned me not to tell any adults, or Mia would have the witch doctor kill me!"
Millie's lips quivered, eyes teary and scared.
Billy's face tightened with anger. 'Randall is bullying Millie!'
"Billy, do you feel like someone is calling Millie?" Samantha huddled close, her big eyes darting around. She was clearly spooked by Millie's story.
Billy's face darkened, just as Nora's voice came from behind. "Millie!"
Samantha and Millie screamed and dove into Billy's arms, almost knocking him over.
Billy looked exasperatedly at Nora, who was walking over. "Have you ever seen a ghost as pretty as Mom?"
Hearing this, Samantha and Millie quickly opened their eyes. Seeing it was Nora, they both shouted "Mom" and rushed into her arms.
Nora caught them with a smile, a bit surprised. "What are you guys talking about? Why so excited?"
Billy shook his head. "Not excited, scared by ghost stories."
Nora glanced at him. "Who's telling ghost stories, Billy? Are you scaring your sisters?"
Billy looked innocent. "I'm not scaring them; they're scaring themselves."
Nora looked at Samantha and Millie. "Why are you scaring yourselves?"
Samantha looked up. "Mom, it's not us. It's Randall scaring Millie."
Hearing Randall's name, Nora's face grew serious. She squatted down, holding Millie's shoulders. "How did he scare you?"
Millie hung her head, silent.
Samantha spoke up, "Randall said Emmeline and Stov's ghosts came to find her. He called Millie a jinx and told her not to tell any adults, or Mia would have a witch doctor kill her."
Samantha repeated their conversation.
Nora's face darkened further. She had suspected at dinner that Randall had said something nasty to Millie because of Stov and Emmeline. But she hadn't expected him to scare Millie like this.
Nora thought, 'Randall must have been taught by an adult to say such things, which means some people here doesn't welcome Millie.
Millie had mentioned before that Mia doesn't like her. And now she said Mia had hired a witch doctor. Could Mia have put Randall up to scaring Millie?'
"Millie, you're bleeding from your nose." Samantha noticed blood trickling from Millie's nose and exclaimed.
Millie wiped her nose, saw the blood, and turned pale. "I'm bleeding! Am I going to die? It must be because I told you guys, and Mia had the witch doctor curse me. Mom, I don't want to die; I still want to play with Billy and Samantha!"
Everyone gathered around.
Aaron frowned. "What do you mean, die?"
"Dad, it's like this!" Samantha ran to Aaron and explained everything.
Everyone except Hugo frowned, especially James, who looked ready to confront Randall, but Jasmine held his hand tightly.
Nora wiped Millie's nose and comforted her, "Don't talk nonsense. You're not going to die. Your nose is bleeding because the weather is too dry."
Millie sniffled, half-believing. "Really, I'm not going to die?"
"Of course not. Did you forget? Mom is a miracle doctor. I just checked your pulse; you're very healthy."
Nora paused and teased, "But you eat too few vegetables and too much meat, which is why you have a nosebleed."
Millie blinked, remembering how she always picked out the vegetables at school and only ate the meat. She lowered her head in embarrassment but stopped crying.
She timidly asked, "Mom, who's more powerful, a miracle doctor or a witch doctor?"
Nora was speechless. Miracle doctor, witch doctor, these titles were just for show.
"Of course, Mom, the miracle doctor, is more powerful," Samantha said, fully believing in Nora.
Nora chuckled and didn't deny it. She explained, "Samantha, Millie, you need to know, there's no such thing as ghosts. If there were, it would be someone pretending to be one!"
Samantha and Millie looked at Nora with wide, innocent eyes.
"Did you hear that? All that witch doctor stuff is just someone pretending," Billy chimed in.
Millie twisted her fingers. "Oh, so Randall was just scaring me."
"Yes, he was just scaring you." Billy's face tightened. "Tomorrow, you take me to see him."
Millie's eyes lit up. "Billy, are you going to make him shut up?"
Billy's eyes gleamed with a mischievous glint. "I'll make him see ghosts in broad daylight!"
Nora knew Billy was smart and feared he might escalate things, so she cautioned him, "Be careful, don't scare him too much."
Aaron chimed in, "So what if he gets scared? If he dares to scare Millie, he should be ready to face our wrath."
He said this deliberately for Hugo to hear, given Randall's family ties with him.
Hugo felt awkward and smiled. "It's just kids playing around. Don't take it too seriously. I'll talk to Randall's father."
Nora looked at him and said, "Mr. Rochet, kids may speak without thinking, but Randall must have learned this from his parents. I heard Mia doesn't like her, is that true?"
"Well, Aunt Mia does have some bias against Millie," Hugo admitted. "But don't worry, Uncle Diego is reasonable."
Aaron's face was stern. "I don't care if others are reasonable or not. If Mia dares to use a witch doctor to harm Millie, don't blame me for being rude!"
