Chapter 516 A Sated Man Knows Not the Plight of the Hungry
"Alex, can you find information about this car?" Nora asked.
"I'll check," Alex replied.
Alex typed on the keyboard, quickly retrieving the vehicle's details.
"Mommy, this is an Uber," Alex said.
Uber? It seemed Sandy had arranged for the car in advance. Where could Sandy be going?
Nora pondered and asked, "Can you track where this Uber took Aunt Sandy?"
"Let me see," Alex said.
He soon found a lead. "Mommy, the car ended up in a small village," Alex said.
"What place is that?" Nora asked.
Alex searched and said, "The village is called Plum Village, about 125 miles from Lindwood City."
Plum Village? Why would Sandy go to such a remote place? Suddenly, Nora remembered something.
Sandy mentioned being a Jinx and having lived in a remote countryside since childhood. The village she lived in was called Plum Village. Was Sandy returning to her hometown?
"Thank you, Alex. You can play. I'll be back soon," Nora said.
She decided to visit Plum Village immediately.
Alex, with a furrowed brow, asked, "Mommy, are you going to find Aunt Sandy?"
Nora nodded. Alex thought, 'Erin just called him on Uncle Matthew's phone, saying she's coming to play with him. Well, finding Aunt Sandy is more important.'
"Mommy, be safe on the road, and keep your phone on," Alex reminded.
Nora's phone had a tracking system, so as long as it was on, he would know her whereabouts.
"I will. Don't worry, Uncle Frederick is accompanying me. I'll be fine," Nora said.
Nora informed Adelbert and Flora, then got into Frederick's car, and they set off. As they left, another car blocked their path, its headlights flashing.
Frederick smiled politely. Matthew stepped out of the vehicle. Nora was stunned, watching him approach and roll down the window.
"Mr. Jones, what brings you here?" she asked.
Matthew smiled politely and replied, "Erin and Alex contacted me, so I brought Erin to visit Adelbert and Flora."
Nora was puzzled. They weren't that familiar, right? Why did he suddenly come to visit them?
"Dr. Smith, are you going out?" Matthew asked.
"Yes," she agreed.
"Where are you going?" he added.
"I'm looking for someone." Nora glanced at the time and said, "Mr. Jones, I'm in a hurry. Alex and the others are at home. Please take Erin inside."
She meant he could move aside and not block the way.
Matthew didn't mind her attitude and asked, "Who are you looking for? I'll come with you."
"No need," Nora refused.
Matthew smiled, said nothing, and got back into his car. He turned the steering wheel, making way.
Frederick started the car and drove forward. But he soon realized that Matthew had turned his car around and was following them.
"Dr. Smith, Mr. Jones is following us," Frederick said.
Nora looked back through the rear windshield and frowned at Matthew's car. Why was he following her? Nora thought for a moment and sent a message to Matthew.
Nora: [Mr. Jones, please stop following me. The place I'm going to is a remote village, about a three to four-hour drive.]
Matthew: [You don't have to worry about me. I've come to Lindwood City and have yet to take Erin around. Today will be like a little trip for her.]
Nora was speechless. What kind of excuse was that?
Nora fell silent for a moment before asking,
Nora: [How are things going with what I asked you to consider? Have you looked into the special medication?]
After a brief pause, Matthew replied with a message,
Matthew: [Don't rush me.]
Was he genuinely considering it or just brushing her off?
She thought, 'Some people don't know how to cherish the hope of life! What a waste of resources!'
Nora sighed and looked out the car window.
Although the description was inappropriate, she really wanted to drag Matthew by the ear. If she could give her brother the life that this man didn't like, that would be great.
As she thought, Frederick drove onto the highway.
Nora's phone rang. She glanced at it, a little puzzled. It was Zephyr’s call.
They had exchanged numbers when she was helping out in Jason's lab for academic purposes, but he had never called her before.
Thinking of what Howard had said, Nora answered the call. "Dr. Wright?"
"Dr. Smith, Cora's phone is off. Do you know where she is? I'm afraid something happened to her," Zephyr said, sounding a bit panicked.
Nora paused and said, "Dr. Wright, let me ask you first. What's the deal between you and my Sandy? Why would they say you two had a sexual relationship at the club?"
Zephyr explained, "We didn't. Someone is framing us."
He explained the situation to Nora, who listened carefully and frowned.
She had suspected that something was amiss. Sandy and Kenneth had been very affectionate recently. How could she possibly betray Kenneth? Someone must be setting her up.
"Can you tell me where she is now?" Zephyr asked urgently.
Nora snapped back to reality and no longer concealed the truth from him; she said, "Something big happened in our family yesterday. Kenneth had a car accident and is now in a vegetative state. Sandy also had a fall and almost miscarried.
"Now, Sandy unilaterally proposed a divorce, then left a divorce agreement and went back to Plum Village. I'm about to go find her."
Hearing this, Zephyr said, "I see, then I'll hang up."
"Wait," Nora called out quickly.
"Do you have anything else?" Zephyr asked.
Nora thought for a moment and said, "Dr. Wright, although Sandy has proposed a divorce, I know she must have been forced. She must feel that it was her fault that Kenneth ended up like this, which is why she suggested a divorce.
"Sandy loves Kenneth very much, and I hope you won't have any more contact with her. It's for the best for both her and you."
Hearing this, Zephyr fell silent for a moment and said, "Dr. Smith, Cora, and I used to be a couple. I don't care who she loves now; I want to see her happy.
"If she is so, I naturally won't interfere with her love life, but if she is not doing well, I won't give up on her. I'll hang up."
Nora wanted to say something more, but Zephyr ended the call directly, leaving Nora looking at the screen with a wave of annoyance.
Love is indeed complicated.
If she had known, she wouldn't have told Zephyr about Sandy's divorce. Would he come after her to Plum Village? And who was really framing Sandy?
