Chapter 88 Should Have Been a Witch Doctor
Malik was startled by Nora's words.
"A neurological problem? What do you mean? Doctor, what should we do? Please, you have to save my husband!"
The people who had arrived with Malik stepped back unconsciously, faces filled with shock and dismay.
Howard furrowed his brows as he focused on Nora.
No one else had seen it, but he had witnessed it firsthand.
Nora was the culprit, yet here she was, spouting nonsense in front of everyone!
"Dr. Hamilton, your medical skills surpass mine; why don't you examine him?" Nora's clear eyes looked up before Howard could finish speaking.
Howard remained silent.
She's doing this on purpose, isn't she?
Calling her out might stir up the crowd, and the hospital's rep could tank.
But if he went along with her charade, he'd be crossing his own ethical line.
This woman was putting him in a tight spot!
"Don't just stand there! Come and see what's wrong with my husband!" Malik was on the verge of tears.
Howard caught a fleeting smirk in Nora's lucid eyes and glared at her irritably. Despite his frustration, he knelt down beside Malik and pretended to diagnose him.
"I can't determine the problem at the moment. Let's get an X-ray and take it from there."
Upon hearing this, Malik nodded profusely, "Yes, let's do the X-ray first."
Howard went off to arrange the procedure.
Struggling to lift the patient, Malik turned to Evella, standing aside, and scolded, "You jinx, this is all your fault! Nothing but bad luck since we met you!"
Evella, accustomed to such abuse, hung her head silently.
Nora raised an eyebrow and spoke up, "Malik, you should be kinder. I suggest you take your husband home to rest and stop being so aggressive."
"The elderly often communicate with angels before passing. Your husband's sudden nervous system issue could be linked to that. You need to be more amiable, or he might suffer more pain."
Nora's words baffled the group that had come from the countryside.
The few who had accompanied Malik and his wife exchanged fearful glances.
"We didn't do anything, let's go."
They hurriedly scattered.
"Don't leave, help me with Daniel!" Malik, struggling to support Daniel, called out.
But the others ignored him and fled.
Howard came back with the paperwork and handed it to Malik to get Daniel checked.
Daniel's face was ashen with fear. "Hurry, am I going to die? Is Ruben going to take me with him?"
Malik, supporting him, snapped, "Can't you put in some effort? You're dead weight."
"If I could move, would I need your help?"
"Watch your tone! Marrying you was my bad luck."
"Excuse me, could you repeat that?"
The couple left, grumbling and complaining under their breath.
Nora shook her head, her red lips pursed slightly.
Howard glanced at her and chuckled, "Nora, with the research projects you're working on, you should have been a witch doctor!"
Nora's lips curled into a smile. "Sometimes, you gotta get creative for the weirdos."
The absolute worst kind of person is one who exploits their family when they lack ability themselves.
It reminded her unwillingly of her own grandmother.
"Nora, did you do something to Daniel?" Evella wasn't stupid; she had picked up on bits of the conversation between Howard and Nora and had an inkling of what was going on.
Nora just smiled and took out a silver needle.
"Yes, I just used the needle to hit his paralysis points."
Evella looked at her with gratitude and admiration. "That's what happened? Nora, thank you for getting me out of that bind."
Nora responded, "No problem, just take good care of Ruben. Daniel seemed pretty shook, so maybe he'll calm down now."
Evella nodded repeatedly, then looked worried, glancing at Howard. "But Dr. Hamilton wrote an order for tests. Won't they find out once Daniel's checked?"
Nora assured her with a laugh, "No, the paralysis will wear off in twenty minutes. When it does, he'll believe what I said even more."
"Really? Nora, you're amazing!"
Admiration filled Evella's beautiful eyes.
Nora smiled and left the ICU. Howard followed, feeling secretly impressed by her stunning acupuncture skills.
No wonder Aaron insists on having her treat him.
Not every herbalist can hit the spots with such precision!
---
At the Oman Hotel, Aaron was waiting for a client.
Noe took a phone call and hurried over to him.
"Mr. Gordon, we have a problem. I just spoke to Mr. Smith's assistant. The Smiths regret to inform us that our cooperation will have to be delayed. They're off to Bescosarst City to explore opportunities there. If things go well, they are considering partnering with Bescosarst's Godric Group."
Upon hearing this, Aaron's gaze narrowed.
"What’s the deal?"
He and the American Smiths had a longstanding collaboration, planning to venture into new domains together.
But the Godric Group from Bescosarst was also attempting to get in on the action.
He had a longstanding friendship with Smith, so Smith had made it clear from the get-go that he would only collaborate with him.
Why the sudden change of heart?
"I did a little digging, and Smith's assistant let slip that Gayle from Godric Group promised to sweeten the deal beyond our original offer. That's why Smith decided to give Gayle a shot: a visit to Bescosarst to consider their proposal."
Noe relayed the gathered intel to Aaron.
Aaron's thin lips pursed lightly, "We already made a generous offer. If they want more, does Godric Group wanna give stuff away?"
Noe explained, "Mr. Gordon, Smith's point is that Godric Group is eyeing profits on future collaborations. Plus, they seem to be well aware of our bottom line—I suspect someone tipped off Gayle."
A sharp glint crossed Aaron's dark eyes.
He had the same suspicion.
Who could've leaked their lowest price?
"Our immediate concern should be meeting with Smith. Noe, I need to head to Bescosarst right away."
"Yes, sir."
Noe responded quickly, his gaze falling on Aaron's leg, hesitating slightly, "Mr. Gordon, how long will you be staying in Bescosarst? If you can't return tonight, what about your leg treatment?"
Hearing this, Aaron paused for a moment, "Then I'll take Nora with me."
Hospital.
Howard received a call from Aaron.
"Aaron, you're taking Nora for a couple of days? Our research project is in full swing."
He didn't even realize that in just a few days, he had started to trust Nora and wasn't keen on her being borrowed.
