Chapter 216 Still A Chance to Stand
After speeding along the road, they finally reached their destination. The car halted in front of one of the townhouses. Baldwin and Nora got out of the car.
Frederick had been following Nora in his car. He parked it on the curb and quickly approached Nora.
"Nora, is your phone dead? Mr. Gordon said he has been trying to call you, and you haven't been answering."
Upon hearing this, Nora was a bit startled and frantically pulled out her cell phone, indeed seeing several missed calls.
"My phone was on silent mode. I didn't hear it. You could have told him I was busy." Nora replied with a smile and then followed Baldwin into the townhouse.
Frederick was left behind and hesitant. He felt that Nora should call his boss back as soon as possible. Otherwise, Aaron will be sulking when they arrive..
Nora did not have time to be distracted as she followed Baldwin into the townhouse and saw a middle-aged woman coming down the stairs.
"Baldwin, you're back."
"Mary, how is my mother?" Baldwin asked anxiously.
"I just assisted her to bed. She's been waiting for you to bring a doctor to check on her," said the middle-aged woman.
Baldwin nodded and introduced them, "Mary, this is Nora. And Nora, this is Mary, my mother’s caregiver."
"Hello," Nora nodded to Mary.
"It's good to meet you, Nora," Mary responded warmly, giving Nora a polite gesture, "Please follow me upstairs."
"Okay."
Nora followed them up the stairs.
"Baldwin, it's my fault. I was out for too long, and your mother got impatient and tried to get a glass of water herself. She accidentally fell and got burned," Mary said, full of remorse.
"It's not your fault. It was an accident," Baldwin reassured her.
The three of them went all the way up to the third floor, then Mary opened the door to a bedroom.
Nora entered and saw Hollis lying in bed, a notably attractive woman in her forties, though her expression seemed a bit gloomy, likely from spending many years in a wheelchair.
"Mom, this is Nora, the doctor I told you about, the one who saved me yesterday on the set," Baldwin spoke as he approached the bedside.
Hollis smiled at Nora as she struggled to sit up. "Nora, thank you for saving Baldwin."
"Don't mention it. You should rest, and don't force yourself to get up," Nora said.
Then Nora motioned for Hollis to lie down and began to examine her legs.
Just as she suspected, Hollis's fall wasn't serious. The ankle was just a bit swollen and her burn was also minor.
"It's not a big deal. I'll treat her right now, and she should be fine after a few days of rest." Nora pulled out a set of silver needles, preparing to administer dry needling as a physiotherapy treatment to Hollis.
Hollis, eyeing the silver needles in her hand, asked, "Nora, so you know about dry needling?"
"Yes," Nora replied with a smile as she began the treatment.
Her hands were skilled, and she quickly finished performing dry needling as part of the physio therapy session for Hollis.
Baldwin's dark eyes flickered, "Nora since you're here, could you take a look at my mom's legs to see if there's any chance she can stand again?"
Hearing this, Nora nodded, "I'll examine her carefully in a moment."
Hollis glanced at Baldwin, "Baldwin, I've seen countless doctors, and they all say that I'll never be able to stand again." A hint of resentment flickered in her eyes as she thought of her condition.
Nora didn't speak but instead took Hollis's pulse, then tapped and prodded her legs as she examined them.
After moments of assessing her condition, Nora said, "There's still a chance for your legs to recover."
Her words made everyone in the room stare at her in anticipation.
"Nora, is that true?" Baldwin's chest heaved slightly.
Nora nodded, "If you have faith in me, I can start her treatment."
"Of course I trust you," Baldwin said excitedly. "Nora, as long as you can cure my mom, any fee will do."
Hearing this, Nora chuckled, "Baldwin, you've helped me before. Just pay whatever you think is fair."
Baldwin, looking at her graceful face, teased, "What if I offered you one dollar? Would you still treat my mom?"
Nora laughed, "It doesn't matter." She wasn't short on cash, and she considered it as repaying a favor.
Of course, a celebrity like Baldwin wouldn't be stingy enough to only offer a dollar for the treatment.
"Nora, do I really have a chance of standing again?" Hollis watched Nora, still reeling from shock.
"There's definitely a chance," Nora responded quietly. "But you've been bedridden for so long that even with treatment, you might move slower than the average person."
A spark of hope shone in Hollis's eyes, "As long as I can stand again, being a little slow is okay."
"Then I'll write a prescription for you," Nora continued. "When I start treating Hollis, you'll need to get the medicine prepared according to my prescription. It will only be effective if taken in conjunction with my physiotherapy."
"All right," they agreed.
Hollis hurriedly responded, "Nora, when can you spare some time to come and treat me?"
Nora glanced at Baldwin and hesitated before saying, "I need to go back and discuss this to know for sure. I'll try to make time to come over every day."
Baldwin looked deeply into her eyes and suddenly hugged her. "Thank you, Nora."
Startled, Nora felt uncomfortable and patted his back before pushing him away.
Realizing her discomfort, Baldwin said, "Sorry, Nora. I got too excited."
Nora smiled and straightened her hair, remaining silent.
Hollis gave Baldwin a meaningful look before asking Nora, "Nora, what's your take on how long it'll take for me to be able to stand?"
Nora's expression turned serious, "It's hard to say—maybe two or three months, maybe six, or perhaps a year. It depends on the situation."
Hollis nodded, "I understand. Doctors can't give absolute answers. No matter how long it takes, as long as I can stand up in the end."
Nora smiled and took a pen and paper out of her bag, writing down a few things. "Baldwin, some of the ingredients here are quite expensive and hard to find. Take a look and tell me if there's an issue."
Baldwin glanced at it briefly and put it away, "No problem. No matter how hard it is to find, I will make sure it's ready."
Nora thought to herself, 'He's truly a devoted son.' She admired his character.
When it was about time to leave, she packed up her things, "If there are no more questions, I'll be heading out."
"Okay, Baldwin, please see Nora out," Hollis said.
Baldwin acknowledged and escorted Nora to the door.
Outside, Frederick was waiting for her. "Nora, Mr. Gordon is here. He's waiting for you in the car."
'Aaron's here?' Nora's eyes brightened as she saw the sleek black Bentley by the curb with Noe standing nearby.
Aaron hadn't stepped out, which likely meant he was sitting in the car.
"Why is he here?" Nora asked.
"Mr. Gordon is probably worried about you," Frederick replied, his voice trailing off as he cast a wary glance at Baldwin.
Baldwin's gaze flickered, and he followed Nora to Aaron's car door.
