Chapter 1096 Confession
Samantha's tears started streaming down her face. She was super upset and just needed to vent to someone.
She shoved Alfred away. "Mind your own business, it's all your fault! Why'd you come home with me last night? If you hadn't, Wesley wouldn't have gotten the wrong idea. If he hadn't misunderstood, things wouldn't be this messed up. It's all on you. Stop following me and go back to your country!"
This was the second time Samantha had told him to leave because of Wesley. A flicker of sadness crossed Alfred's eyes, but he got that Samantha was heartbroken and saying crazy stuff was normal.
Alfred said, "I'm sorry, Samantha. I feel bad for causing you trouble by being here. But I don't think there's anything wrong between us, and I don't think Wesley has the right to act like he's the boss just because of this."
"Think about it. Is he really someone you can trust for life? In that situation just now, he let his assistant say you were pestering him and didn't even deny it. Do you really think he loves you?"
"If you love someone, even if there were misunderstandings before, you wouldn't let her become the target of everyone's criticism at a crucial moment."
Samantha's mind was a mess. She knew it, but she didn't want to admit it, not at all. "Enough, Alfred. Why do you always talk trash about him? Why can't you stand seeing us happy? Do you have a crush on me? Do you think if I break up with Wesley, I'll be with you?"
Alfred took a deep breath. Looking at Samantha's tear-streaked face, he suddenly didn't want to hide it anymore. He grabbed her shoulders. "Yeah, Samantha, you're right. The person I have a crush on is you."
Samantha was just venting and talking without thinking. But she didn't expect to push Alfred into confessing his true feelings.
Tears still welled up in her eyes as she stared at him. She thought, 'What did Alfred say? He really has a crush on me.'
Seeing her stunned expression, Alfred sighed softly and gently wiped away her tears. "Samantha, I didn't want to tell you this so soon, but I can't stand seeing you cry over someone who doesn't deserve it. Don't like him, like me instead!"
Alfred mustered up the courage to speak his mind. This was the most unforgettable moment of his twenty-three years.
Looking into Alfred's deep blue eyes, Samantha's already chaotic mind became even more confused. She broke free from his grip, feeling that this was wrong. "Do you think love is a transaction that can be exchanged? Alfred, I don't like you!"
The light in Alfred's eyes dimmed bit by bit. He probed, "Samantha, do you really not like me?"
Alfred's deep blue eyes fixed on her, making it hard for Samantha to look directly at him. She averted her gaze and took a deep breath. "Yeah, I only see you as a friend. I've never thought about becoming romantically involved with you. Leave now, I don't want to see you."
Her mind was in a mess, and she just wanted to escape. After saying that, she ran forward.
Alfred said, "Samantha."
"Don't follow me. If you do, I'll get angry," Samantha warned.
Alfred just stood there, watching Samantha get smaller and smaller, feeling like crap. Not only did he fail to win her over, but he also pushed her further away. He could've stayed in her life as a friend, but now that was out the window.
Ryan pulled up in his car. "Alfred, what were you two talking about? Why aren't you chasing her?"
Alfred sighed, "I scared her off."
Ryan squinted. "Scared her off? What do you mean?"
Alfred found it hard to explain.
Ryan, being sharp, guessed, "Did you just confess to her?"
"Yeah."
Ryan was speechless. "Man, you really know how to pick your moments. She's heartbroken right now. How could she possibly accept you?"
Alfred hesitated, "Was I too pushy?"
"Of course," Ryan said, "Think about it. She hasn't even sorted things out with Wesley yet. If she accepts you now and gets with you, wouldn't that just confirm all the trash talk from those fans?"
Right now, everyone thought Samantha was just playing Wesley.
Alfred felt a bit regretful. He was just a simple-minded, physically strong guy. No wonder he didn't win Samantha's favor.
"So what should I do now?" Alfred asked.
Ryan started the car. The engine roared, leaving Alfred standing there, speechless. "Hey, don't leave. Tell me what to do now!"
A message buzzed on Alfred's phone.
Billy texted: [Alfred, I just saw the news. How's Samantha doing?]
Alfred, desperate for someone to talk to, quickly replied: [Not good. Billy, I messed up big time.]
Billy sent a few question marks.
Alfred: [I confessed to Samantha.]
Billy: [And got shot down?]
Alfred: [Yeah.]
Billy: [You really know how to pick your moments.]
Alfred was now extremely regretful. [Ryan said the same thing. Billy, what should I do now?]
Billy quickly gave Alfred some advice. [Do nothing. Let her slowly realize her feelings for you. Just stay by her side like before.]
This was something Alfred was good at. He sent a thumbs-up emoji.
Samantha's mind was in turmoil. She got into Ryan's car, just wanting to get away from there.
Ryan drove, glancing at her dazed expression in the rearview mirror, and cleared his throat. "Samantha, did Alfred freak you out?"
Samantha didn't respond, her beautiful eyes flickering. She still hadn't recovered from Alfred's confession.
Ryan felt the need to show Alfred's good side. He asked, "Samantha, is Alfred not good enough? He's been by your side since forever. He's got looks and talent. In what way is he not better than Wesley?"
Samantha bit her red lips, looking at the back of Ryan's head, and asked, "Did you know all along?"
That Alfred liked her. Ryan understood her question but played dumb. "Know what?"
Samantha glared at him, her eyes flashing with embarrassment.
Ryan laughed. "Oh, you mean knowing that Alfred likes you? Yeah, I knew all along. Not just me, anyone could see it."
Samantha's emotions surged. "So Billy and the others know too?"
"Yep."
"So, that's why you don't like Wesley?" Samantha came to this conclusion.
Ryan glanced at her in the rearview mirror. "You could say that. Compared to Wesley, Alfred is definitely better. Of course, we don't want you to be with a weakling."
