Chapter 1025 He Won't Succeed
"Gabriella, you need to be ready. Johnnie's gone blind and deaf from the air currents," Nora said honestly.
Gabriella's face turned pale. She was heartbroken and speechless. 'Blind and deaf! Such a great guy like Johnnie, stuck in darkness forever? Why did this happen?'
Gabriella swallowed hard and finally asked, "Nora, can he be treated?"
Nora sighed, "Gabriella, I can't promise a full recovery."
Gabriella got agitated. "No, Nora, you're a miracle worker. You can fix him, right?"
Nora paused. "If a mirror shatters, can it be the same again?"
Gabriella insisted, "Yes, with all the pieces and a skilled person, it can be fixed!"
Nora didn't argue. "But will it be the same as before?"
The answer was no. The mirror would be scarred.
Gabriella's heart sank. She clenched her fists, eyes red with tears.
She slapped herself hard. "It's my fault. If I hadn't been obsessed with revenge, I wouldn't have met Johnnie. He wouldn't be hurt. It's all my fault!"
Gabriella's tears flowed. She was full of regret.
"Revenge? Gabriella, don't do this. You're still recovering; you can't cry," Thea said quickly.
Aaron, standing by, added, "Yes, Gabriella, don't cry. It's not your fault. Blame those who are ruthless."
Gabriella looked up, tears in her eyes. "Mr. Gordon, since Johnnie was monitoring my phone, he must have recordings, right?"
Aaron nodded. "Yes."
"Release them. I want everyone to know what kind of person Rafael from Hchilia is. I want King Tomas to punish him!" Gabriella was furious.
Aaron said, "Gabriella, calm down. Do you think Tomas doesn't know? He knows! But even if he knows Rafael has bad intentions, he only stripped him of some power."
Gabriella was confused. "Why?"
Aaron explained, "The Royal family is complicated. Rafael's maternal family is influential. Tomas has to maintain stability."
"Then there's no way to punish him? Is Johnnie's suffering for nothing?" Gabriella was filled with grief and anger.
"Of course not," Aaron said coldly. "Rafael is ambitious. Mateo is suppressing him, but Rafael will try to seize power. When that happens, Tomas won't be able to maintain stability."
Gabriella listened carefully. "So, only if Rafael's power grab is proven, will Tomas punish him?"
"Yes," Aaron nodded. "If Rafael plots against Tomas, his end is near. We need to stay put and watch the situation unfold."
Gabriella clenched her fists. "But what if Rafael actually seizes power?"
Aaron replied, "Evil can't win. He won't succeed."
"But what if he does?" Gabriella pressed.
Aaron's gaze turned icy. "If Mateo can't stop him and he does succeed, I won't let him take the throne easily. Hurting my people won't go unpunished."
His stern face radiated authority.
Gabriella nodded, feeling a bit reassured by Aaron's words.
But thinking of Johnnie's condition, her eyes welled up again. "Which ward is Johnnie in? I need to see him."
Thea, still lost in thought, snapped back to reality. Seeing Gabriella trying to get out of bed, she quickly said, "Gabriella, you're still very weak. You shouldn't be moving around."
"I need to see him, or I won't be able to sleep," Gabriella insisted. Thea had no choice but to help.
With the nurse's assistance, they went to Johnnie's room. Gabriella saw him lying silently and covered her mouth to stifle her sobs.
She walked to his bedside, sat down, held his hand, and pressed it to her face. 'It's okay. As long as he's alive. If he can't hear or see, I'll be his eyes and ears.'
Gabriella sat quietly, unmoving.
Thea, concerned, said, "Gabriella, your back can't take this. You should go back to your room and come back when he wakes up."
"I want to be here when he wakes up."
Johnnie would be scared when he woke up. She wanted him to know she was there.
Thea couldn't persuade her, so she had the nurse support Gabriella.
"Honey, you must be hungry. Let's get something to eat and come back," Aaron said, worried about Nora.
Nora agreed. "We need to find a hearing aid first."
Even though Johnnie was deaf, a hearing aid could help him hear a bit. Otherwise, waking up unable to hear or see would be terrifying.
Aaron nodded, said a word to Gabriella, and left the room.
Gabriella just sat there, waiting for Johnnie to wake up.
Finally, in the evening, Johnnie's eyelids moved, and he slowly woke up.
Gabriella, exhausted, was holding his hand and resting by the bed.
Sensing movement, she quickly looked up and tightened her grip on Johnnie's hand. "Johnnie, you're awake? Go call Dr. Smith and Mr. Gordon."
The nurse left the room.
Johnnie opened his eyes to complete darkness. He frowned, closed his eyes, and opened them again, but it was still dark.
"Why is it so dark and quiet? Is it night?" Johnnie spoke but couldn't hear his own voice.
Gabriella's eyes filled with tears, and her voice choked. "I'm sorry, Johnnie. It's my fault. If I hadn't insisted on going to the scenic spot, this wouldn't have happened."
Johnnie couldn't hear or see, but he guessed what had happened. His pale face turned even whiter.
He slowly raised his other hand and touched Gabriella's hand. "Gabriella?"
