Chapter 351 Separation After the Birth
Kenneth stared fixedly at her, his mind recalling that Zephyr might still be residing in her heart. A glimmer of dark melancholy flickered in his deep black eyes.
He proposed, "Let's get divorced after the baby is born." He had no desire to keep a woman by his side who still harbored feelings for another man.
Sandy gripped her water glass tightly, her already pale complexion turning even whiter.
He wanted a divorce! It made sense, after all.
Wasn't she considered cursed, destined to bring misfortune to those around her? Why would he keep her only to doom himself?
"Will I be able to take care of our child afterward?" Sandy managed to squeeze the words out of her tight throat.
"What do you think?" Kenneth's aura grew colder, his eyes filling with suppressed anger. He had brought up divorce, and she didn't have a single word of protest!
Was she simply waiting for him to mention divorce so she could reunite with Zephyr and live happily ever after?
Sandy, unaware of Kenneth’s tumultuous thoughts, let her gaze fall and gently caressed her belly, a flicker of sadness passing through her eyes.
Indeed, with her being seen as cursed, she was meant to end up alone. If the child stayed with her after birth, undoubtedly, they would be doomed as well!
But why was her heart so heavy?
The thought that in a year she would never see Kenneth again, nor the child she carried for nine months, brought an involuntary tears to her eyes.
Sandy tried to hold back her tears in front of Kenneth, but they spilled over despite her efforts. Tears dropped onto the comforter, spreading quickly upon touching the fabric.
"Why are you crying? Am I not granting you your freedom to be with Zephyr? Shouldn't you be happy?" he asked, confused. Kenneth’s resentment filled the room, and his tone was not friendly, but he nevertheless passed her a few tissues.
Sandy sniffled, taking the tissues to dab at her tears.
"Don’t think, so ill of me. Yes, Zephyr and I once had a relationship, but that's all in the past. I won't be with him after the divorce. Someone like me is only fit to be alone forever," she stated.
‘She had not thought of reuniting with Zephyr?’ At first, Kenneth felt a glimmer of happiness, but hearing her last statement, his expression turned cold again.
She didn’t want to reunite with Zephyr because she feared bringing him misfortune too.
Didn’t she realize that by taking her sister’s place and marrying into the Hamilton family, becoming his wife, she might also bring him bad luck?
The room fell into silence, neither of them speaking any further, and the atmosphere grew oppressively heavy.
Sandy watched the IV drip bag and felt her stomach blooming with urgency, a clear sign she needed the restroom. There was still about half a bottle of IV fluid left, but she couldn't wait any longer.
Sandy threw off her covers, preparing to get out of bed.
Kenneth, who was sitting by her side, asked in a deep voice, "What are you doing?"
"I need to go to the bathroom," Sandy replied.
Her body felt weak, compounded by the tears she had just shed, making her appear delicate and pitiable.
Kenneth's lips tightened slightly. He did not speak but stood up and, with extreme caution, scooped Sandy into his arms. He instructed, "Hold onto the IV bag yourself."
As he held her securely, Sandy quickly grabbed the IV drip bag.
She smelled the familiar, cool scent coming from him and her gaze fell on his chiseled, stubborn face as she slightly lowered her eyelashes.
She knew she should fear him, but at this moment, her heart inexplicably felt at ease.
She had gotten used to his presence, and dreaded the thoughts that in a year... it would all be over.
The next day, Nora woke up, seemingly as normal as ever.
At least, she managed to behave as usual in front of the three little ones and their Master. Only Aaron felt troubled, silently lamenting and cursing Edric thoroughly.
As evening fell, the group made their way to a banquet.
The Hamilton family had arranged the event at the same estate where the Remington family had previously held a similar event.
Many of the guests had also attended the Remington family's reunion and greeted Aaron and his companions as they arrived.
"Mr. Ebenezer has arrived!" someone announced.
Ebenezer had been eagerly waiting for their arrival.
As soon as they appeared, he hurriedly welcomed them personally and led them into the private resting room of the elder Mr. Hamilton.
In the resting area, old Mr. Hamilton was dressed in a deep red suit, sitting comfortably on a sofa. Even though he may have been well past his prime, but he seemed in good spirits.
He had already been informed of Nora's identity and had taken a liking to his newly found granddaughter.
And when he saw the three little ones, he liked them even more.
"I presume these are my great-grandchildren?" old Mr. Hamilton said with a smile. "Come here, let your great-grandpa have a good look at you!"
The three children, polite and clever, simultaneously greeted him with a cheerful "hello, great-grandpa."
Old Mr. Hamilton was delighted and gave each of them an envelope. The envelopes were thin, obviously not containing cash.
Nora didn't think it was necessary, but still instructed the children, "Thank your great-grandpa."
"Thank you, Grandpa," the three kids chorused in unison.
Old man Ebenezer was delighted beyond words, "Don't stand there, come over and sit down."
The kids obediently took their seats next to him, allowing him to observe them with affection and inquire about their well-being with gentle questions.
Witnessing the scene, Jacob felt a wave of jealousy rise within him.
After all the twists and turns, how did these three little ones end up as Old Hamilton's great-grandchildren?
How wonderful it would be if they were his own great-grandsons and great-granddaughter?
Luckily, if Nora married into the Gordon family, then these three kids would be considered his great-grandchildren too.
Thinking about this, he spoke up, "Old Hamilton, when do you think we should discuss the marriage between Aaron and Nora?"
Hearing these words, Old Hamilton waved his hand dismissively, "Nora has just returned to her family roots today; our home hasn't even warmed up to her yet, how can we rush to marry her off? There's no need to hurry."
Nora looked at Old Hamilton's smiling face and felt a little relieved.
He really was her blood-related grandpa, understanding her feelings without needing to say a word.
She certainly was not in a hurry to get married!
"How can we not be in a hurry?" Jacob voiced his displeasure, "Nora and Aaron are both not getting any younger, they're at the age to get married. And what about these three adorable children? Aren't you worried that people would talk if they grow up without a father?"
Hearing this, Old Hamilton became unhappy.
"I'd like to see who dares talk about the offspring of the Hamilton family! Jacob, let me tell you, with the protection of the Hamilton family, even if Nora never marries, we can support her and her children for a lifetime."
The Ebenezer and Gordon families were long-time friends, with Old Hamilton being a few years older than Jacob. In his youth, he was also a formidable figure in the business world.
They were good friends, but both were equally stubborn. And they didn't hold back in teasing each other when they were younger, and even though they had mellowed with age, their natures remained unchanged - both were quite domineering.
Old Hamilton took pleasure in Jacob's frustrated expression.
He turned to Nora and asked, "Nora, where are the kids going to school right now?"
Nora felt warm inside, "They're studying in a school in Houston."
"After you're settled back into the family, bring the kids to live in Lindwood City," he proposed.
With that one sentence, Jacob was left fuming and glaring with a twitching mustache.
"No way, Nora is about to marry Aaron, and the Gordons have their roots in Houston. Naturally, the kids have to settle down with Nora in Houston,” he declared.
"Jacob, don't be so full of yourself, I haven't agreed to Nora marrying into the Gordons yet!" Old Hamilton retorted.
"Humph, Nora and Aaron are in love. Your disagreement doesn't matter!" Jacob, rebutted.
Old Hamilton insisted, "Well, Nora isn't in any rush to get married. Right now, she's part of the Hamilton family, and obviously, the kids should stay with their mother in the Ebenezer household."
Jacob accused, "Humph, after all this talk, it seems like what you really want is to snatch these little ones away from me."
"What do you mean snatch? It's clear that you're the one trying to take them! They are descendants of my Hamilton family!" Old Hamilton snapped back.
Listening to the two Masters bicker, Nora couldn't help but find it amusing.
She looked around and noticed that beside old Ebenezer, only his two daughters were with him; Emma was nowhere to be seen.
She guessed that today, Emma must be the unhappiest of all.
"Alex, Billy, Samantha, you tell me where you want to live," Jacob suddenly spoke up, throwing the question to the three little ones.
