Chapter 1009 I Shouldn't Have Come into This World
Seeing Alfred bow to Nora, Astrid yelled, "You called a doctor for your mom? That witch deserves to die! Get out now!"
She lunged at Alfred, but Samantha blocked her.
Astrid, knowing Samantha was Nora's daughter, didn't push it and just kept cursing.
Nora, not understanding Alfred, asked him to repeat using a translation app. Alfred repeated himself.
Nora, being a doctor, couldn't ignore someone in need. "I'm a doctor. Take me to see your mom."
"Thank you," Alfred said, almost collapsing from weakness. Samantha caught him. "Careful."
Alfred steadied himself, looking at Samantha holding his hand, her scent comforting him. His blue eyes sparkled.
"Let's go," Nora said.
Alfred led them to a corner of the villa. Astrid, fuming, went back to the living room.
Nora was surprised to find a rundown area inside the fancy villa. They reached a dim, musty room.
Alfred's mom, Maiken Olsen, lived here.No wonder she was sick.
Alfred turned on the light, revealing a cluttered storage room with a bed in the center. Maiken lay there, pale and still, except for her faint breathing.
"Please save her," Alfred begged, tugging at Nora's clothes.
"Okay," Nora said, checking Maiken's pulse. Maiken's blonde hair was dirty, her skin pale, lips cracked, but she was still beautiful. Alfred looked a lot like her.
Nora wondered who Maiken was and why she lived here. Astrid's insults hinted at a wife scolding a mistress.
Nora found Maiken's pulse weak, with a fever but no internal injuries. It seemed like long-term malnutrition led to a viral infection, causing the coma.
After checking, Nora put Maiken's hand back under the blanket.
"How is my mom?" Alfred asked anxiously.
Nora picked up her phone and asked, "You want to know how your mom is, right?"
Alfred nodded eagerly.
"She's not in serious trouble, just a cold. I'll treat her, and she'll wake up soon," Nora reassured him.
Alfred's eyes lit up, and he bowed repeatedly in thanks.
"Samantha, take him outside. I'll handle his mom's treatment," Nora instructed.
"Okay," Samantha replied cheerfully. Then she added, "Mom, can I have your phone?"
Nora handed it over, knowing Samantha needed it to communicate with Alfred.
Samantha took Alfred's hand. "Let's wait outside."
Alfred hesitated, glancing worriedly at Maiken.
"Don't worry. My mom's a miracle worker. If she says your mom's fine, she's fine. Let's wait outside," Samantha said with a warm smile.
Alfred, comforted by her words, nodded and followed her out.
Outside, Samantha asked, "Who are you here? Why do they treat you so badly? That guy almost drowned you earlier."
Alfred looked down, staying silent.
"Don't be afraid. My parents are really powerful. Tell me, and I'll ask them to help you," Samantha encouraged.
Alfred looked up, meeting her kind eyes, feeling moved. Just then, his stomach growled.
Embarrassed, Alfred held his stomach.
"Are you hungry?" Samantha asked, blinking her big eyes.
Alfred nodded. "I tried to steal a chicken leg from the kitchen. When I got caught, Juan wanted to punish me."
"Just for a chicken leg? That's awful! Aren't you part of this family?" Samantha exclaimed.
Alfred stayed silent, his stomach growling again. He moved aside, trying to hide his embarrassment.
Samantha turned to Frederick, who was standing guard. "Uncle Frederick, he's hungry. Can you get some food from the kitchen?"
"Sure," Frederick said, heading off.
"I asked Uncle Frederick to get you some food," Samantha told Alfred.
Alfred's eyes lit up again. "Thank you."
"It's nothing. You're really good-looking," Samantha giggled.
Alfred blushed slightly. "But they don't like me."
"Why don't they like you?" Samantha asked.
"Because I shouldn't have been born," Alfred replied.
"That's not true! My mom says every child is a gift from God. You're a gift too! And you're so good-looking. God must really like you," Samantha said firmly.
Alfred looked into her bright eyes, feeling uplifted. "My name is Alfred. What's yours?"
"I'm Samantha," she said.
'Samantha. 'He repeated the name in his heart, staring at her, feeling a sense of hope.
