Chapter 517 Vagrant

Four hours later, Frederick's car arrived at Plum Village.

Matthew followed closely behind. After parking, he glanced at a passing car.

If he remembered it correctly, that car had been following them since they got on the highway.

His sleeve was tugged by a small hand, and as Matthew watched the car drive away, he turned his gaze back and asked, "Are you in a hurry?"

Matthew knew his daughter was eager to see Nora, so he opened the door and carried Erin out of the car.

As soon as Erin got out, she happily ran toward Nora.

Seeing the adorable Erin, Nora's mood brightened.

She picked her up and said, "Erin, Merry Christmas."

"Aunt Nora, Merry Christmas," Erin replied, hugging her neck.

Nora kissed her face before taking her to Cora's home. Matthew smiled, remaining silent, and followed quietly behind her.

After some inquiries, Nora found Bryson, Cora's foster father’s house, which was an ordinary two-story house.

The person who opened the door was probably in his sixties, inquiring, "Who are you looking for?"

"Hello, Bryson, I'm Nora; Sandy is my sister-in-law. I know she came back here. Can I see her?" Nora explained her purpose.

Bryson sighed and stepped aside, inviting, "Come in, and we'll talk."

"Okay," Nora replied and took Erin inside.

"Please have a seat. I'll make some coffee for you," Bryson said.

"No need," Nora replied and handed Erin to Matthew and declined the drink.

Bryson didn't say anything and went to the kitchen to make coffee for them.

After receiving the coffee, Nora thanked him and asked directly, "Bryson, is Cora home?"

Bryson sat across from her and sighed, "Cora has left."

Left! Nora's face changed slightly, asking anxiously, "Why did she leave? When did she leave?"

Bryson said, "She left this morning."

Nora’s brow furrowed, and she asked, "Where did she go?"

"I don't know." Bryson continued, "Cora arrived home last night. When I asked her what happened, she refused to say anything and just cried in my arms.

"After I asked her repeatedly, she finally told me that her identity had been exposed. And because of her, Mr. Hamilton had an accident. I didn't know how to advise her, so I let her go to sleep and said we would talk when she woke up."

Bryson added, "But this morning, when I went to call her for breakfast, I found that she was gone. She didn't even take her phone; she just left a note saying she had left and asking us not to look for her."

Bryson's eyes were filled with tears.

Nora quickly handed him a tissue.

Bryson thanked her, wiped his tears, and continued, "Cora has always been kind and well-behaved, a good child. But everyone treated her like a jinx, turning her from a wealthy daughter into a country girl."

He added, "Later, she got married, and I thought she would have a good life, but then this happened. Her fate is truly tragic."

Nora felt very sad after hearing this comforting comment, and asked, "Did Cora take anything with her?"

"No, she didn't take anything, not even her phone." Bryson said sadly, "Cora wants to cut off all ties with her past completely. She is afraid that her jinx will hurt others again."

Nora also thought of this, saying, "But some things are destined. How can Cora take all the blame?"

Bryson nodded and said, "Yes, public opinion is terrifying!"

Indeed, everyone is saying that she is a jinx, and even if she is optimistic, she also has moments of collapse.

In addition, Kenneth's accident suddenly made her psychological fortitude collapse.

Nora was very sad and felt helpless. After saying goodbye to Bryson, she walked along the country road with a worried expression.

Erin ran to her side, tugged at her sleeve, and looked at her with concern. Nora suppressed her depression and smiled as she picked her up.

Suddenly, Matthew said, "Do you need my help to find Cora?"

He offered to help her find Cora. Nora glanced at him and asked, "Are you willing to help?"

Matthew asked, "Do you want me to help?"

"Of course I do," Nora said, willingly. It's always good to have an extra hand.

Matthew nodded and said, "Okay, I'll help you find Cora. But..."

Did he have a condition? Nora said cautiously, "Mr. Jones, what is your condition? If your condition is the absurdity you mentioned before, then I don't need your help."

She would never marry him.

Matthew smiled and remained silent.

Nora looked at him curiously and asked, "Mr. Jones, who are you really?"

This man had an extraordinary temperament, obviously an unusual person.

"You'll find out in the future," Matthew said mysteriously.

Nora looked away and refuted, "Stop it. I'm not interested in you, and I don't want to know who you are."

Matthew laughed and said, "Dr. Smith, you will change your mind."

Nora ignored him. They walked toward the car, one after the other.

The road to Cora's foster parents' house was too narrow for the car to enter, so they parked on the side of the road.

Nora came to Matthew's car, carrying Erin, and put her in the car while Frederick got into his car and started it.

At this moment, a man dressed like a vagrant walked over from the other side of the road. His hair was messy, and his face was unshaven. He was wearing tattered clothes with a torn sweater underneath.

Nora was about to go back to her car when she saw the vagrant suddenly pull out a small knife.

Nora was shocked and thought the vagrant was coming for her.

She didn't expect him to harm himself! Is this man mentally unstable? The vagrant threw the knife to the ground and looked at his hand, shouting, "I'm bleeding!"

Nora was about to leave, but her sense of duty made her instinctively want to check on the man's condition.

"Don't go!" Matthew grabbed Nora and said.

Nora asked in confusion, "Why don't you let me go? He's bleeding; he needs immediate first aid."

Matthew was about to speak when he saw the vagrant suddenly rushing toward Nora, trying to grab her hand.

Matthew pushed him away and quickly pulled Nora behind him. At this moment, Frederick, who was in the car, promptly got out and ran toward Nora.

Two black-clad bodyguards also appeared. One of the bodyguards quickly restrained the vagrant, who was still trying to rush forward.

"Let me go! It hurts!" the vagrant shouted at Nora.

Nora looked at the two tall and burly bodyguards who had suddenly appeared, her face full of astonishment.

She asked, "Who are they? Where did they come from?"

"They are my bodyguards," Matthew replied.
