Chapter 1065 A Man's Nature is to Plunder
Billy was deep in thought as he typed: [Alfred, we cool?]
[Totally,] Alfred shot back right away.
Billy: [I need a solid from you.]
Alfred: [What’s up?]
Billy: [Samantha’s not in Houston or Lindwood City; she’s in Elmrest Springs. I need you to head over there, find her, and figure out who she’s into. Also, keep tabs on the guy.]
After a moment, Billy kept typing: [Since we can’t be with Samantha, I need you to have her back. Don’t let some dude mess with her. She’s been under our wing since forever and doesn’t get how shady some guys can be. You gotta watch her and the dude she likes to see if he’s worth it!]
Alfred replied quickly: [Got it.]
Billy grinned at the response, thinking, 'Competition lights a fire under people. Samantha’s never liked any guy before, so Alfred’s kept his feelings on the down-low. But when he finds out he’s got competition, will he just sit back and watch?'
Billy hoped this would push Alfred to make a move.
Late at night, Alfred stared at his phone, unable to sleep, thinking, 'Samantha likes someone? Who is it?'
His chest felt tight, like something valuable had been snatched away. He frowned, tossing and turning, Billy’s words echoing in his mind. [Aren’t you gonna fight for her?]
Alfred shut his eyes, feeling a pang of helplessness. He was just an illegitimate kid; living peacefully was already a win. And Samantha was a cherished young lady. Could he really compete?
With a sigh, Alfred turned over again. That night, he barely slept.
The next day, Alfred, a few bodyguards, and another guard of Mateo’s, escorted Mateo to the airport.
Noticing Alfred’s distracted look, Mateo asked, "Alfred, what’s up? Something happen with Samantha?"
At the mention of Samantha, Alfred’s face showed a flicker of discomfort. "She’s fine."
"If she’s fine, why do you look so worried?" Mateo raised an eyebrow.
Mateo could tell Alfred only showed emotions when it came to Samantha.
"I’m not worried," Alfred said.
Mateo turned to the other guard, "Does he look worried to you?"
"Yes." The guard’s face was blank but firm. Whatever Mateo said was gospel.
Mateo smirked, "Alfred, you gonna spill, or should I ask Mr. Gordon?"
"No need to ask, Samantha’s really fine." Alfred quickly stopped him, avoiding eye contact. "It’s just that Billy told me yesterday that Samantha likes some guy."
'So that’s it. No wonder Alfred’s all shook up.' Mateo squinted. "Then why don’t you go and win her back?"
Alfred looked at him, emotions stirring. Though Mateo was only ten years older, he was more than a boss—he was like family, closer than a father. So when it came to feelings, if he had to talk to someone, it’d be Mateo. "King Mateo, I..."
"Alfred, don’t tell me you think you’re not good enough for Samantha." Mateo knew Alfred too well and cut him off.
Alfred swallowed his words and just stared at the ground.
Mateo said, "Alfred, man up and go for what you want. Look at the bigger picture. Don’t be all hesitant and cautious. Think about me. I wasn’t born into royalty, but now I run a whole country, right?"
Mateo’s words fired Alfred up, and he stood a little taller, admiration all over his face.
Mateo clapped him on the shoulder. "Alfred, remember this: you’re one of my top guys. I see you like a son. Anyone who disrespects you is disrespecting me."
Alfred was touched. "Thanks, King Mateo."
"Hey, no tears," Mateo teased, seeing Alfred’s eyes get misty.
Alfred tried to hold back his tears and gave a sheepish smile.
"Let’s roll." Mateo was ready to board the plane.
"King Mateo, I’m not coming with you," Alfred blurted out.
Mateo paused, his eyes narrowing. "You scared to see Samantha? Did you not hear a word I said?"
"No," Alfred quickly explained, "I mean, Samantha’s in Elmrest Springs. I’m heading there to find her."
Mateo grinned. "Go for it."
"Take care, King Mateo." Alfred waved as Mateo and the others boarded the plane.
Mateo booked a flight to Chrisland, and after landing, he snagged the earliest ticket to Elmrest Springs.
Mateo’s pep talk had fired Alfred up, but the thought of confessing to Samantha, who he’d liked for years, made him hesitate.
He remembered Billy saying Samantha liked someone else. He knew her well—she was clear about her feelings. If he rushed in, they might not even stay friends. So, he decided to bide his time.
First, he needed to find out who this guy was. Then he’d make his move.
Meanwhile, Samantha had slept like a baby. Wesley had confessed to her, and she was in a great mood.
Wesley was swamped with work, so they’d agreed to practice singing at school in the afternoon.
After waking up, Samantha lounged at home, listening to Wesley’s songs and scrolling through her phone. She stumbled on a cooking video and blinked. With nothing else to do, she decided to try cooking.
She remembered Wesley saying in an interview that he liked gentle women. She wanted to be the kind of woman he liked.
With that thought, Samantha got excited. She jumped up, changed clothes, grabbed her phone and wallet, and headed out.
By this time, Alfred had already arrived in Elmrest Springs. After checking into a nearby hotel, he made his way to River View Estate.
Before he even reached the entrance, he saw Samantha walking out.
She was rocking a simple white T-shirt and denim shorts, with white sneakers. Her long, straight legs were dazzlingly white, and she had this youthful, sweet vibe.
Alfred’s heart started pounding. He wondered how Samantha would react when she saw him—probably with a surprised look.
He straightened his clothes and was about to approach when he noticed something was off.
