Chapter 1073 She Was Jealous
"This ain't about distrust; he actually cares about me," Samantha said, shoving her stuff into her bag, ready to bounce.
Alfred trailed behind, trying to be all gentle, "Nah, this ain't care; it's possessiveness. Dude's selfish. Samantha, he ain't right for you. He's narrow-minded, not exactly Mr. Generous."
Samantha shot him a look, clearly annoyed. "Since when did you start gossiping like this, Alfred?"
Alfred sighed, "Sorry, maybe I'm overstepping. But seriously, you gonna ditch all your guy friends for him?"
Samantha shrugged, not giving a damn. "I don't see the problem."
Her mind was all about Wesley. If it was his idea, she was down for it.
Watching her bounce around with a big smile, Alfred was at a loss for words. He just followed her quietly.
They left the music room, crossed the playground, and headed for the school gate.
Bored out of her mind, Samantha turned to Alfred, "Hey, Alfred."
He quickly caught up, ready to listen.
But then she thought better of it and stepped away. "Never mind, go do your own thing."
Wesley's words about keeping her distance from other guys echoed in her head, so she ditched the idea of chatting with Alfred.
Alfred's frown deepened. 'Is she really gonna ghost me because of Wesley?' he thought.
Over on the playground, a few girls from the track team were chilling under a tree, rocking their sports gear.
When they saw Alfred, their eyes lit up.
"Whoa, who's that hottie? Is he from our school?"
"Never seen him before. Maybe he's an exchange student?"
"He's got style, totally my type!"
"Mine too!"
"No way, I'm gonna go talk to him."
These days, girls were bold, so a tall one led the charge towards Alfred.
"Hey, are you a student here?" she asked.
Alfred wasn't into random girls hitting on him, but he answered politely, "Nope."
His smooth English made their eyes sparkle even more. "Your English is so good! What brings you here?"
"Just some business."
"Can I get your number?"
Samantha, walking ahead, heard the chatter and turned around.
Seeing Alfred surrounded by girls, she blinked and walked back. "Alfred, what's going on?"
Alfred was about to brush them off, but then he had a thought. "Nothing much, just your school's students being super friendly."
Samantha had always pushed Alfred to find a girlfriend, so he figured he'd play along.
"Who's she?" the tall girl asked, eyeing Samantha.
"Hey, I'm his good friend," Samantha jumped in before Alfred could say anything.
"Oh, I thought you were his girlfriend," the tall girl said, relieved.
"Wait, isn't that Samantha?" another girl recognized her.
"You know me?" Samantha asked, curious.
"Yeah, you're the piano prodigy from the music department. I've seen you play before."
"Thanks for the compliment," Samantha said with a polite smile.
Since they were all from the same school, they quickly got chummy.
"Samantha, does your friend have a girlfriend?" the tall girl asked.
Samantha glanced at Alfred. "Not yet."
"Mind if I be friends with him then?"
"Go for it."
The tall girl turned to Alfred, "Can we swap contact info?"
Seeing Samantha step back, Alfred felt a bit off. "Sure," he said, pulling out his phone to add the three girls on Facebook.
Alfred had always seemed like the kind of guy who kept to himself, never really having female friends around. Samantha had always pushed him to find a girlfriend, but she never thought he'd be so quick to agree. Her smile faded a bit.
Watching Alfred smile at the three girls, Samantha felt a twinge of discomfort.
Her mind flashed back to a time when she was cooking and got pricked by a shrimp. Alfred had put her finger in his mouth to soothe it. In the future, he'd do the same for his girlfriend. The thought made her sad.
As Alfred waved goodbye to the girls, Samantha said sarcastically, "Wow, a romantic encounter, congrats."
Alfred looked at her. "Isn't this what you wanted? For me to have a romantic encounter?"
Samantha was at a loss for words, not sure why she was mad.
"Samantha, you seem upset?" Alfred asked, curious.
Samantha's eyes flickered. "No, why would I be upset? I'm happy for you." She didn't admit it and quickly walked ahead.
Watching her back, Alfred squinted. He knew Samantha too well to miss her unhappiness.
'Why is she upset? Is it 'cause I'm talking to other girls? Is she jealous?' The thought made Alfred's heart skip a beat. 'If she's jealous, does that mean she has feelings for me?'
Feeling a bit happy and suddenly motivated, Alfred calmed himself down. After leaving the school, he chose to leave instead of following her as usual.
Samantha, ahead, seemed distracted. When crossing the street, she instinctively turned to look for Alfred but found no one behind her.
'Where's Alfred? Did he go find those girls?' Samantha frowned. She suddenly remembered Alfred saying he had a woman he liked.
'If Alfred likes someone, why didn't he refuse the romantic encounter? Is he a jerk?' Samantha felt annoyed and went home angrily.
Meanwhile, Alfred, hidden in the shadows, said to Yahir, the bodyguard following Samantha, "Keep an eye on her, don't let any sketchy guys near her."
Yahir looked at him and said expressionlessly, "You're also a sketchy guy."
Alfred raised an eyebrow. "Wanna spar sometime?"
"Anytime."
Alfred returned to the hotel he had booked, and soon, his phone rang. It was Billy calling.
Alfred answered, "Billy."
Billy asked, "Did you see Samantha?"
"Yeah."
"Did you also see the guy she likes?"
"Yeah."
Billy paused, "Is the guy Samantha likes that singer Wesley?"
Alfred stayed silent.
Billy laughed. "Did you promise Samantha not to tell us? Actually, you don't need to say it; I already guessed it, so you're not really betraying her."
