Chapter 315 You Cannot Marry Him
Hollis looked into the void ahead, a flicker of struggle in her eyes. ‘To kill Aaron?’
The man's voice continued through the current of electricity.
"What's the matter, you can't do it suddenly? Don't forget, it was you who came to me wanting to collaborate. Because of that, Aaron turned his attention to me, and now, I am ejected from the Gordon family Group board of directors."
Hearing this, Hollis let out a cold laugh, "Your ejection from the board is due to your lack of skill, why blame me for it? Besides, even if I hadn't approached you for a collaboration, do you mean to say you would have had no ambitions to take over?"
The person on the other end of the call was none other than Aaron's uncle, Caleb.
‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend,’ as the old saying goes.
Caleb wanted to take power, and she wanted vengeance, so the two naturally became covert collaborators.
Their previous collaboration had resulted in Aaron's car accident. But Aaron, fortunate as he was, got saved by Nora.
And now, Nora was even treating her leg condition.
"I admit I was outplayed, that's why I sought your cooperation. Now tell me, are we still in this together or not?" Caleb asked sternly.
Hollis clenched her phone, and after a moment, she said, "Of course, we are."
"Good, I'll be waiting for your good news. Remember, we must seize the chance, as it won't come again!" he replied.
The call ended, and Hollis sat motionless in her wheelchair.
Beside her, Mary asked, "Madame, was that call from him?"
Hollis nodded slowly, "Yeah. He wants me to take action against Aaron."
"What are you going to do?" Mary asked.
Hollis was silent, at a loss for words.
Mary looked at her, "Have you gone soft, not wanting to seek revenge anymore?"
Hollis gripped her phone tighter, thinking of her deceased son, her gaze growing colder. "No, I want to crush that man's heart; I want him to pay dearly! Mary, go buy me some stuff tomorrow!" she ordered.
Outside the door, Quinn stood frozen with her hand in mid-air, her complexion changing.
What had she just heard? Was Hollis still harboring vengeance, still planning to retaliate against the Gordons? Was she about to target Aaron?
"Quinn, why are you just standing there?" The voice of Baldwin came from behind her.
Quinn snapped back to reality, composed her facial expression, "I was just about to knock!"
Baldwin walked up beside her, ready to knock for her.
That's when the door was suddenly pulled open from the inside, and Mary looked out at Quinn with a wary expression.
Quinn smiled, "Mary, I made some sweet soup and was coming in to see if you'd like some?"
Seeing her act normally, Mary stepped aside without a word.
Quinn and Baldwin walked in, flanking Hollis.
Hollis glanced at Quinn, "Who asked you to exert yourself, weren't you told to rest more?"
Her tone was cold, but Quinn replied with a smile, "Mrs. Brown, I know you care about me, but don't worry, I still have the strength to make some sweet soup."
Hollis let it slide and said to Baldwin, "Baldwin, go get us two bowls of that sweet soup."
"Sure," Baldwin said, nodding with a smile.
He could sense the shift in his mother's attitude toward Quinn.
He was pleased.
"Ma'am, I'll go help out." Mary understood that Hollis wanted to talk to Quinn alone, so she discreetly left the room.
As soon as the door closed, Hollis asked, "Did you hear something outside just now?"
Quinn blinked, "No, why do you ask?"
Hollis stared intently at her face, scrutinizing her.
Quinn arched an eyebrow, half-joking and half-serious, "Mrs. Brown, were you and Mary discussing some unspeakable secrets just now? Don't tell me you're plotting against Aaron?"
Hollis's eyes flashed, and she said coldly, "What nonsense are you talking about? That's not true!"
Quinn nodded, "Just a wild guess. I figured you wouldn't do that. After all, Nora is head over heels for Aaron, and if you were to harm Aaron, she wouldn't continue to treat you, right?"
Hollis remained silent, just curling her fingers.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"It must be Nora and Aaron returning. I'll get the door," said Quinn with a beaming smile. As she turned, her expression grew more somber.
Did Hollis truly have no intention of harming Aaron? She hoped that was the case.
Quinn opened the door to find Nora and Aaron indeed had come back.
Seeing the bliss between them, she said, "Looks like you two had a great time at the Hamilton family dinner, huh?"
Nora chuckled lightly, "It was fine."
"Look at you, all happy! Now, come on, tell me how it went with the Hamilton family, and how you managed to take down that hypocrite," prodded Quinn.
Nora shot a glance at Aaron and said with a grin, "You chat; I need to go take care of Mrs. Brown."
Aaron smirked and watched Nora walk away, then turned to glance at Quinn.
Quinn was somewhat distracted, and Aaron saw a flicker of inquiry in her eyes.
"Something on your mind?" he asked.
Quinn snapped back to reality and fixed her hair with a sigh, "Looks like I need to brush up on my psychology after all."
She had thought that her future mother-in-law had been won over by now. Yet it seemed that revenge still weighed on her heart.
Her charm hadn't done the trick, which meant she needed to delve deeper into psychology. Only then could she steer her future mother-in-law back onto the right path.
Aaron's dark eyes narrowed slightly, "What kind of riddle are you trying to solve?"
Quinn glanced at him and patted his shoulder, "You have such a high forehead!"
Men with such features were often considered fortunate, which is why they seldom met with untimely ends.
Besides, he had made friends with her, a lucky star, and she would never let anything happen to him.
So, when he marries Nora in the future, she, as the lucky star, must have the seat of honor.
Aaron watched her leave, utterly confused. He touched his forehead and a smile played upon his lips.
Indeed, his forehead was unusually broad. He was indeed a lucky man, which must be why he had met such a lovely future wife. Quinn must have been marveling at that!
Meantime, in Hollis's bedroom, Nora entered to find her sipping sweet soup.
"Mrs. Brown, Mary, Norm," she greeted everyone.
"Nora's back," said Hollis as she handed the bowl to Baldwin, signaling them to leave the room.
Baldwin and Mary promptly exited. Nora took out her acupuncture kit and began treating Hollis.
As Hollis looked into Nora's beautiful eyes, she couldn't help asking, "Did you face any difficulties at the Ebenezer' family residence with Aaron today?"
Nora, while inserting the needles, smiled, "No."
A blush of sweetness spread across her face, causing Hollis to frown.
"So, you took Aaron to the Ebenezer's family today to meet your parents? Are you planning to marry him?"
At these words, Nora hesitated with her movements.
Aaron had mentioned that Hollis always hoped she would become her daughter-in-law. If she kept silent, perhaps Hollis would continue to foster that hope.
With that thought, Nora simply nodded, "Yes."
Hollis clenched her fingers, "Nora, Aaron isn't right for you. You can't marry him."
