Chapter 867 He Protected Her
Nora was led out of the storage room by Frederick, her heart pounding like crazy. Seeing the men in black chasing them, she knew they were after her. These guys looked pretty skilled; maybe Frederick could hold them off for a bit. But they had just whistled, and more might be on the way.
Right then, Nora remembered what Mateo had said about protecting her. She really couldn't trust those high-up folks! She had gotten herself into big trouble!
"Dr. Smith!" James saw Frederick shielding Nora as they ran out, with two men in black hot on their heels. His eyes narrowed, and he shouted.
"James, protect Millie!" Nora barely had time to instruct James before the two men in black surrounded them and started fighting Frederick. The other security personnel in the manor rushed over when they heard the commotion, only to run into more men in black.
Seeing at least twenty or thirty men in black, Nora couldn't help but gulp. This was a setup to take her down completely! These guys were definitely not average hitmen. Could they have been sent by Mateo's brothers, Rafael and Miguel?
"Dr. Smith, come with me." Seeing Frederick struggling, James rushed to Nora while holding Millie and leading Jasmine. Nora nodded and followed James toward the exit of Whispering Woods Resort.
But they had only run a few steps when more men in black caught up with them. "Hide quickly," James said, handing Millie to Jasmine and telling her to find a place to hide.
Jasmine, in a panic, held Millie tightly and looked around before running towards the trees. But a man in black with a knife charged at them. He was actually aiming for Nora. Startled, Jasmine threw a stone she had grabbed for self-defense with all her might. The man in black was hit squarely, cursed, and turned to slash at Jasmine.
"Watch out!" In a critical moment, James rushed over to shield Jasmine. His arm got slashed by the knife. James frowned but said nothing. He just tightly protected Jasmine behind him and started fighting the man in black. Jasmine held Millie tightly, burying Millie's head in her neck to prevent her from seeing the fight. Watching James's powerful combat skills, Jasmine's heart raced. James had saved her again!
Over there, with no one left to protect her, Nora saw Noe and Seraphina running towards her anxiously. She quickly shook her head, signaling them not to come over.
'These people were after me, and I didn't want to involve them.' Thinking this, Nora turned and ran in the opposite direction. However fast she ran, she couldn't outrun the assassins. The two assassins dressed as waiters quickly caught up with her. Both had knives in their hands, looking fierce and determined. One of them said something, then, with a fierce look, thrust his knife towards Nora's chest.
Nora thought she was doomed this time, but unexpectedly, someone suddenly rushed over and tightly embraced her. With a muffled grunt, the person's body stiffened, and his arms tightened around her. Nora thought it was Aaron, but the embrace felt different from Aaron's. She looked up and saw Mateo's handsome face twisted in pain.
Nora was shocked. "Prince Mateo!"
Mateo's chest heaved, and he smiled. "Nora, I said I wouldn't let you get hurt."
In a critical moment, Mateo had really appeared! And he had taken a knife for her! Looking ahead, Nora saw that more men in black had appeared. They were now fighting with the earlier men in black. They must have been brought by Mateo.
"Mateo, how are you?" Nora asked.
"Nora, it hurts, it really hurts!" Mateo's tone had a hint of whining. Suddenly, his face changed, and he spat out a mouthful of blood. Mateo's body was heavy, causing Nora to fall to the ground. Her hands were slippery; looking down, she saw they were covered in blood.
Nora's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly checked Mateo's pulse. Lying in her arms, Mateo swallowed the metallic taste in his mouth and asked, "Nora, am I going to die?"
Nora's expression was serious. "No, I won't let you die." The knife had gone in deep, and Mateo was seriously injured, but he could still be saved.
"If I die, will you remember me?" Mateo's hand slowly grasped hers.
"Don't talk. I said I won't let you die," Nora said.
"Nora, you'll remember me, right?" Mateo was persistent, looking straight at her, wanting an answer.
Nora nodded reassuringly and said, "Yes, I will remember you."
Mateo smiled, then his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
"Prince Mateo!" A bodyguard in black ran over, looking tense.
"Dr. Smith." James and Frederick also ran over.
Nora ignored the others and said, "Mateo has fainted. I need to treat him immediately."
James translated her words to Mateo's bodyguard, who quickly carried Mateo and strode towards the villa in Whispering Woods Resort.
At this time, Aisha had just been rescued and was resting on the villa's sofa. Seeing Nora and the others come in, she quickly got up to greet them.
"Dr. Smith, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but Mateo is injured. I need to treat him immediately," Nora replied.
"Okay, follow me." Aisha led them to a room on the first floor.
Nora said, "Aisha, you should have doctors here, right?"
"Yes."
"Have them come in to help me." Mateo was seriously injured; surgery was necessary.
"Okay." Aisha quickly gave orders for the resident medical team to bring medical equipment to assist. The medical team included an English-speaking doctor, who temporarily acted as a translator to assist Nora in treating Mateo.
Without wasting words, Nora prepared and began the treatment with the medical team.
In the living room, Aisha's head was still a bit dizzy, and she was still in shock from the recent events. Seeing that everyone else was unharmed, except for James, who was slightly injured, she felt a bit relieved.
"Mr. Franklin, are you okay?" Aisha asked.
"It's just a minor injury, nothing serious," James said calmly.
Jasmine, holding Millie, looked pale. "It's not a minor injury. Mrs. Rochet, are there any doctors here? Please have a doctor bandage him."
Before Aisha could respond, James said, "No need to bother the doctors. If possible, could you bandage me?"
Jasmine was stunned, then nodded. She first handed Millie to Noe and Seraphina for care. Noe and Seraphina, not wanting to scare Millie, took her upstairs.
"Mrs. Rochet, is there a first aid kit here?" Jasmine asked.
"There should be." Aisha had the butler bring a first aid kit to Jasmine.
James walked to the sofa and half-unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his muscular torso.
