Chapter 719 Don't Believe Him

Joseph's tone was somewhat aggressive.

Howard didn't want to explain much to Joseph but looked at Richard and Evella.

Seeing that neither of them spoke, he quickly said, "Richard, Evella, I swear to God that there's nothing between Rachel Romero and I."

Richard furrowed his brow slightly. "Howard, I remember your relationship with Rachel Romero was quite ordinary, but in the video, you were chatting and laughing, not like strangers at all. What's going on?"

"I can explain this."

Howard organized his words and explained, "Last night, I met Rachel Romero while practicing cooking at the Whispering Willow Restaurant. She had previously come to me with a photo of you and Evella together, saying Evella wasn't worth my affection. So when she found out I was learning to cook for Evella, she said some unpleasant things."

"I was afraid she would misunderstand Evella, so I told her the true relationship between you and Evella. She was shocked at first, but then she understood. Afterward, Rachel said she didn't really like me, and she just thought our families were a good match."

"We cleared things up, and she volunteered to be a tester. I thought that, as a wealthy heiress with a discerning palate, her feedback would be valuable, so I agreed. After that, as you saw, Rachel gave me a lot of suggestions, and we had a great conversation."

Listening to his explanation, Richard glanced at Evella, momentarily speechless.

On the side, Joseph smirked and said deliberately, "So you prepared a table of dishes for Rachel to taste first, Dr. Hamilton. Interesting. Evella is your girlfriend, and she don't even have that honor."

Howard choked, subconsciously glancing at Evella.

"Evella, I didn't mean anything else. I just wanted her to taste the dishes and give me feedback."

Evella pursed her lips and remained silent.

Joseph continued, "Looks like you really trust Miss Romero from the Romero family."

Howard felt annoyed. "Joseph, I respect you as Evella's elder brother. Please stop sowing discord."

"I'm just stating the facts."

Joseph went on. "Dr. Hamilton, you've said so much just to clarify your relationship with Miss Romero, but do you believe it yourself? We're all men here, and I know your thoughts too well. Miss Romero says she doesn't like you. You go along with it and flirt with her. In reality, you just enjoy the vanity of being pursued."

"Joseph!"

"Is that hitting a nerve?"

"You!"

"That's enough."

Seeing Howard and Joseph about to argue, Evella interrupted their conversation.

She glanced at Howard and said, "Joseph, please stop. I trust Howard, and he's not a playboy who would flirt with others."

Joseph looked at Evella, his lips tight, clearly displeased.

Richard stood up. "Alright, I'll go visit the Romero family tomorrow and see Rachel. Let's not discuss this matter for now. Howard, is the food ready?"

"Yes."

"Then let's eat."

"Okay."

Howard's tense nerves relaxed slightly when Evella spoke.

As long as she believed him, that was enough.

Howard walked over and held Evella's hand. "Evella, thank you for trusting me."

"There's still food in the kitchen, and I'll go serve."

Evella pulled away from Howard's hand and quickly walked to the kitchen.

A hint of a smile faded from Howard's face as he watched Evella's retreating figure, lost in thought.

She seemed to have avoided him just now.

Evella didn't believe him.

Noticing Evella's subtle actions of pulling away from Howard, Nora couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

Although Evella said, she trusted Howard in front of Joseph, his instigation, especially mentioning how Howard personally cooked a table of dishes for Rachel, must have upset Evella.

Howard, this stupid man, what was going on in his head?

Even if he wanted someone to taste the dishes, he should have chosen a man.

Didn't he know what it meant to cook his first meal for a woman, Howard?

She would have to remind Howard later to privately reassure Evella.

Just as she was thinking, Nora's phone rang.

It was a call from Alex.

Nora blinked, a hint of surprise in her eyes.

Usually, when there was nothing urgent, she was the one who initiated video calls with Alex.

Now, Alex suddenly contacted her, which meant there was something he wanted to discuss.

Thinking back to a few days ago when she had Alex continue investigating Joseph, Nora figured Alex was probably telling about that.

"Richard, I'll take this call."

Nora informed Richard and then went to the balcony to answer the phone.

"Alex."

"Mommy, following a few days of investigation, I discovered that after he was rescued by fishermen, a man named Jerry Allen approached him."

Alex was indeed going to talk about this.

Nora perked up. "Who is this person approached Joseph?"

Alex said, "It's quite unusual is that the intelligence network couldn't find any useful information about that man."

Nora looked surprised. "They failed to find information about him?"

"That's right. Although the intelligence network of the Jones family is well-known domestically, it's not omnipotent, and there are still many things that are difficult to uncover," Alex explained.

Nora understood but was still a bit puzzled.

"But that man is a person, and a person should have basic information."

If it were something else, it would be understandable not to find useful information.

But Jerry was a person.

Such a renowned intel agency shouldn't be unable to find information about an individual.

"That's true, a person should have basic information. But there's a situation where they might not be able to find information," Alex said.

"What?"

Alex continued, "For example, in foreign countries, there are many elite families who secretly raise a group of assassins. These assassins may have been picked up as abandoned babies from all over the country."

"They are raised and trained from a young age, but they are not given identity information. These people can only live in the shadows, doing some unsavory things for the wealthy."

Upon hearing this, Nora was shocked.

She knew that in the vast world, nothing was impossible.

But she still found it unbelievable.

"So you're saying that the person who approached Joseph could be an assassin raised by a foreign family?"

Alex replied, "It's possible."

Nora gripped her phone tightly, feeling somewhat uneasy.

Why would someone like Jerry approach Joseph?

There must be a conspiracy.

Jerry must be working for his master.

What was the relationship between Joseph, Jerry, and their master?

"I got it. Does that person have a photo?"

"Yes."

"Send me his photo later."

"Okay, Mommy."
