Chapter 16 Can't Do without Her

"Alex, Billy, I just saw Mommy on top of Mr. Thomas!" Samantha exclaimed.

Alex frowned slightly while absorbed in his tablet.

"Is Mom swooning over him?"

Billy was caught off guard and instinctively complimented, " Mr. Thomas is quite capable."

Giggling, Samantha agreed, "Yeah, Mr. Thomas is not only handsome and skilled but he could also be our new Daddy!"

The thought of this man as their Dad made Alex's frown tighten, "Samantha, his legs are injured."

"But Mommy said he can get better," Samantha countered.

"He's got amnesia," Alex added.

"So? Man only remembers us and Mommy, isn't that good enough?" she argued with a tilt of her head.

Alex's large eyes narrowed, still shaking his head.

"No good. What if he's married?"

If Mr. Thomas was married, he couldn't become their Daddy!

Samantha looked crestfallen.

Downstairs.

Nora brought some water and began washing Aaron's hair as he lay in bed.

Aaron, eyes closed, relished the sensation of her fingertips weaving gently through his locks, soothing and lulling him towards slumber.
Indeed, when she was silent, she exuded an extraordinary kindness.

So why ruin it with speech?

"There, all done."

Nora finished washing and drying Aaron's hair before helping him into his cozy bed.

She rubbed her aching back and quipped, "I must have the patience of a saint."

As Aaron looked up at her, about to say something, his gaze inadvertently landed on her chest, and his eyes momentarily darkened.

Her clothes were slightly damp over her chest, revealing an enticing glimpse beneath.

Her shapely form was modestly cradled by her bra — an impressive sight!

Noticing Aaron's silence, Nora followed his gaze, then quickly covered her chest with her hands.

"What are you staring at? You pervert!"

Aaron retorted, "I didn't throw myself at you, nor did I make any improper advances. Where do you see a pervert?"

Nora was at a loss for words, "You're just twisting the facts!"

"You're the one making a fuss over nothing!"

Nora was speechless.

Why did she have to rescue an argumentative, sarcastic amnesiac just to stress herself out?

Taking a deep breath, Nora offered Aaron a wry smile, "Just you wait."

His heart skipped a beat at her smile. As he watched her leave, he had an inkling of what was coming.

"Where are you going?"

"To prepare some medicine!"

Aaron let out a resigned sigh.

He knew she would resort to that!

Couldn't this woman come up with another strategy to handle him?

Nora went to her room to change clothes.

Then she called Alex into her room.

"Alex, I need you to look someone up for me. His name is Mick, he's a pharmaceutical executive. I want his contact information."

Alex was puzzled, "Mommy, who is this guy? Why do you want to find him?"

"Don't worry about it, just find the info."

Nora couldn't yet confirm if this Mick was really the biological father of her three kids, so she wasn't ready to tell the little ones.

Alex quickly came up with Mick's details.

"Mommy, I've got the info."

Nora hurried over to review Mick's profile.

Mick, Forty-five years old, started as a salesman in his youth, later founded Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. His wife is the CFO of the company, and they have a son in middle school.

Nora looked at a photo of Mick.

His eyes were world-weary but shrewd.

Could this man truly be the father of her three children?

"Mommy, do we need to dig deeper?" Alex inquired.

Nora jotted down Mick's phone number and affectionately patted his head.

"No need, go play."

Alex obediently left the room.

Nora inhaled deeply and dialed Mick's number.

The phone was answered quickly.

"Hello?"
Nora paused before speaking into the phone, "Hello, is this Mr. Mick?"

"Yeah, speaking. Who's this?"

"I'm Nora. Do you have a moment to spare tomorrow, Mr. Mick? I'd like to meet with you," Nora said.

"Nora? Do I know you?"

She gripped her phone tighter, "Mr. Mick, four years ago, at the Lucas’s wedding at Oman Hotel, you were there, right?"

"Four years ago... yes, I was there! Got it, let's talk more when we meet tomorrow."

"Sounds good."

After hanging up, Nora closed her eyes for a moment.

He understood.

So, could he really be the biological father of her three kids?

Mick's face flashed through her mind.

Nora rubbed her forehead and exhaled deeply.

Sure, he was a bit on the heavier side with full cheeks, but if he slimmed down, he might actually look pretty decent.

Otherwise, the kids wouldn't have turned out so adorable, would they?

"Mr. Thomas, are you married?" Samantha couldn't help herself and dashed to ask Aaron in the downstairs room.

Aaron glanced at the sweet, cherubic face before him and instinctively answered with one word, "Nope."

Samantha's eyes lit up as she turned to Billy who had followed.

"Billy, look! Mr. Thomas said he's not married!"

Billy looked at Aaron suspiciously.

"Aren't you supposed to have amnesia? How do you remember that you're not married?"

Aaron: "..."

Once again, his carelessness almost gave him away.

Samantha blinked her big eyes and believed him without a doubt.

"Yeah, so Mr. Thomas, what kind of girls do you like?"

Why was Samantha asking this?

Aaron said, "Well, the pretty ones."

Samantha giggled, "Do you think my mommy is pretty?"

Aaron raised an eyebrow, sensing where this was going.

"Your mommy is definitely pretty, but she's kind of fierce. If only she could be as cute and lovely as you."

Samantha beamed with joy.

She leaned over the bed, hugging Aaron's arm affectionately, "Mr. Thomas, I really like you."

Billy was making a face of disgust behind her.

"Samantha, he's just like the Big Bad Wolf dressed as grandma, out to trick kids."

Samantha turned and glared at him, "That's not true! Am I not cute?"

Billy retorted, "So, our mommy is fierce, huh?"

Samantha's eyes wandered, "Mommy can be pretty fierce sometimes."

"And when is that? Isn't it only when you're being naughty that Mommy gets tough with you?"
Billy glanced at Aaron, "So, just like you, he's been giving Mommy a headache!"

Aaron fell silent.

"Billy, have I ever really given your Mommy a hard time?"
He had just lent them a hand a little while ago!

"No trouble, huh? Ever since you showed up, my little angels have been at each other's throats!"

Nora descended the stairs, catching the commotion on the first floor as soon as she entered.

With a cool smile, she greeted, "Thomas, you really can be a pain!"

Aaron remained quiet, simply stating the obvious truth.

"Mommy, don't be mad at Mr. Thomas. He may have said you're a bit fierce, but he also complimented your beauty," Samantha ventured over to Nora, making a case for Aaron.

Nora pinched her little nose, torn between annoyance and amusement.

The sudden male voice caught her off guard.
"Because kids have the purest hearts and the brightest eyes, they know who's worth their salt!"

Nora just wanted to throw him out.
