Chapter 1111 Join Me for the Shoot
Staring into Alfred's deep blue eyes, Samantha suddenly got it. The whole thing was just a lame excuse. Alfred just wanted her to give him some water.
Since Alfred had been holding the umbrella for her, she decided to let him have his way this time. "Alright, drink up."
Samantha twisted off the bottle cap and brought it to his lips. Alfred grinned and took a few sips from her hand. A gentle breeze blew, messing up the strands of hair by her ear.
Alfred looked at Samantha's sun-kissed, rosy face and felt like even this plain water tasted sweet. After he drank, they kept climbing.
After about twenty minutes, they spotted a pavilion not too far away.
Seeing Samantha panting, Alfred asked, "There's a pavilion over there. Wanna take a break?"
Samantha nodded, feeling tired and definitely needing a rest.
They headed towards the pavilion. But before they could get inside, they saw a young couple sitting there, whispering sweet nothings to each other.
The guy had his arm around the girl, and they were all lovey-dovey. He said something that seemed to annoy her, and she playfully punched his chest. The guy laughed, held her hand, and leaned in for a kiss, totally ignoring everything around them.
In such a scene, even though Samantha was exhausted, she couldn't interrupt them. Blushing, she quickly turned around.
Unexpectedly, Alfred was right behind her, and she bumped into his chest. Her nose hit his firm chest, startling her, and she quickly stepped back, almost tripping.
"Watch it." Alfred's long arm reached out and firmly held her slender waist.
Samantha looked up and met his concerned gaze, her heart pounding. She didn't know if it was because she saw the couple kissing or for some other reason.
Samantha quickly looked away. When she tried to push him away, Alfred had already let go of her.
Seeing Samantha's reddened ears, Alfred's eyes twinkled with amusement. He thought, 'Is she shy? So, Samantha does have feelings for me, right? Otherwise, if she only considered me a friend, with her lively and cheerful personality, she wouldn't be blushing.'
Alfred asked, "Should we still go in?"
"Go in for what? Let's go, don't disturb them." Samantha, trying to cover up her embarrassment, adjusted her hair and quickly walked ahead. She seemed to be fleeing in haste.
Alfred looked at his palm. It still seemed to carry Samantha's warm body heat. That soft touch made his mind wander. His Adam's apple bobbed unconsciously. He glanced at the still-kissing couple and strode towards Samantha.
Samantha took a few deep breaths to calm down. Hearing footsteps, she ruffled her hair and took a sip of cold water.
Alfred knew Samantha felt uneasy, so he didn't speak. He just held the umbrella for her and quietly stayed by her side.
After another twenty minutes of climbing, they finally reached the top. A cool breeze blew, messing up their hair.
Samantha was almost exhausted, but looking at the vast wilderness, she felt excited. She walked to the railing at the top, couldn't help but spread her arms, and took a deep breath of the fresh air. If no one was around, she would definitely shout out loud.
The breeze lifted Samantha's hair, creating a picturesque scene that was hard to look away from. Alfred took out his phone and quickly snapped a few photos to capture this moment.
Samantha stood there for a bit, then dropped her arms. She noticed Alfred snapping pics and walked over. "Hey, you taking pictures? Why didn't you say anything? If you get an ugly shot of me, I'll smack you."
Alfred chuckled. "You never look ugly in photos."
Samantha shot him a side-eye. "You're laying it on thick today."
She grabbed Alfred's phone and started flipping through the pics he just took. Even though they were candid, they weren't bad.
"How are they? Pretty good, right?" Alfred asked.
"Not bad," Samantha said, glancing at him. "Now you stand over there, and I'll take a few of you."
"Nope," Alfred shot back immediately.
Samantha pouted, "You're so handsome, why don't you like getting your picture taken?"
Alfred had always hated taking photos since he was a kid. It always took some serious convincing to get him to pose.
"Because I'm not a narcissist," Alfred said. There wasn't really a reason. He just felt awkward in front of the camera and thought his smile looked goofy.
"Are you calling me a narcissist?" Samantha glared at him.
Alfred laughed. "No, give me the phone. I need to check if Ryan's here yet."
"Take the photo first," Samantha insisted, holding the phone out of his reach.
"Just give it to me," Alfred said, smiling as he reached for the phone.
Samantha hid the phone behind her back. She was so small compared to Alfred. He easily wrapped one arm around her waist and grabbed the phone with the other.
Samantha rolled her eyes. "Alfred, why are you acting like a shy girl?"
Seeing Samantha's pouty lips, Alfred's heart softened. As she was about to walk away, he pulled her back. "Alright, let's take a photo together."
He aimed the camera at them and bent down a bit. "Look at the camera."
Samantha instinctively looked at the camera and smiled. With two clicks, Alfred snapped a few photos. "There, done. See, I cooperated."
Samantha gave him another side-eye and took the phone to check the photos. "How did you cooperate? Clearly, I was the one cooperating. You told me to look at the camera, and I did, without any hesitation."
Alfred laughed. He looked at Samantha's beautiful profile and felt really happy.
The phone beeped with a new message. It was Lykke asking if they had set off.
Samantha paused and handed the phone to Alfred. "Here, the high-jumping girl sent a message. You reply. I'll find a place to sit."
Climbing the mountain for nearly an hour was exhausting. Samantha found a cool spot, enjoying the wild breeze and sipping water. Her eyes fell on Alfred, who was looking down, replying to the message.
As the sun set, Alfred stood tall and straight in the afterglow.
Samantha remembered Alfred's words. He didn't remember Lykke's name because she wasn't someone he cared about.
Samantha's eyes flickered, and she quickly took another sip of water. The cold water helped her calm down. She thought, 'Who Alfred cares about has nothing to do with me. I'm not planning on dating now anyway. It's too exhausting.'
Alfred replied to Lykke, telling her that he and Samantha had reached their destination. Lykke said she would be there soon.
Just as he was about to put away his phone, Ryan also sent a message asking where they were. Alfred sent a photo of the two of them that he had just taken. He used the picture to tell Ryan that they had arrived at their destination.
