Chapter 711 A Quarrelsome and Loving Couple
Zephyr looked towards the approaching person and realized it was his friend Jeremy Nelson coming over to him.
He smirked. "Why are you late?"
"I arrived early and have just gone to the restroom," Jeremy replied.
Jeremy glanced at Jane with interest and teased him. "Zephyr, do you admire my cousin?"
Zephyr was momentarily stunned and didn't pay attention to his teasing.
"Is she your cousin?"
"Yes, without a doubt." Jeremy chuckled and then turned to Jane. "Jane, long time no see."
Jane looked him up and down. "Jeremy Nelson, it's you."
"It's me, and I just returned to the country not long ago," Jeremy said.
Jeremy and Jane's mothers were cousins but not very close cousins. So, besides important holidays, they didn't interact much.
"Jeremy, are you friends with Dr. Wright?" Jane asked.
"Yes, Zephyr is my brother. I'm back in the country to set up a lab and want to invite him to join," Jeremy explained.
Jane nodded and looked at Zephyr. "Dr. Wright, thank you."
"You're welcome. Consider it repaying a favor," Zephyr said.
"Zephyr, you said you admire my cousin. Don't be so distant. Jane, sit down and chat." Jeremy teased.
Without hesitation, he pulled Jane to a seat.
Zephyr cleared his throat. "Jeremy, don't misunderstand. I just thought that man earlier was out of line, and since I owed Jane two favors, I stood up for her."
Upon hearing this, Jane raised an eyebrow. "Dr. Wright, thank you for your kindness, but I'm not that fragile."
When she heard Zephyr say he admired her, she was taken aback. But she quickly realized he was just trying to save face for her.
Jane was quite self-respecting and wouldn't dwell on a few words from others.
"It was my meddling." Zephyr regretted his impulsiveness.
Seeing Jane's dismissive attitude now, Zephyr cursed himself inwardly.
He was being ridiculous, even saying he admired her.
He was really meddling!
"Dr. Wright, you always seem to take matters into your own hands," Jane said.
Jane recalled Zephyr insisted on treating her his way when they were at that fishing village.
Zephyr choked. "Do I?"
Jane asked, "Don't you?"
"Definitely not." Zephyr replied.
"You definitely do!" Jane insisted.
Jeremy, on the side, was getting dizzy from their talk.
"Stop, can we eat and chat at the same time?"
They paused, and Jane, looking at the slightly annoyed Zephyr, said, "Okay, Dr. Wright, order the food. It is my treat to thank you for standing up for me."
"No need, as I said, I was just repaying a favor." Zephyr felt a bit frustrated, and his tone was not improving.
Jane teased. "Are you angry, Dr. Wright? You're a man, don't be so petty."
Zephyr was speechless and somewhat embarrassed.
"I consider myself to have a mild temper and a forgiving heart. But in your words, I become a useless man."
Jane found it amusing and teased further. "Dr. Wright, you seem to feel good about yourself!"
Zephyr felt quite aggrieved. He turned to Jeremy. "Jeremy, do you think I have a good temper?"
Jeremy, flipping through the menu, was amused by the banter between Zephyr and Jane. He pretended not to hear and focused on ordering food.
"What did you say just now? I didn't hear, and I'm ordering food!"
Zephyr glared at Jeremy, looking like he was about to explode.
Jane couldn't help but laugh again and then said, "Dr. Wright, no need to doubt yourself. You're not speaking highly of yourself. You're truly outstanding. Your medical skills are excellent, and your character is outstanding."
Zephyr, who had been feeling stifled, was taken aback by her words. He looked into Jane's sincere eyes and felt a bit embarrassed.
From childhood, he had always been kind and rarely conflicted with others, let alone with a woman like Jane.
But for some reason, every time he met Jane, he couldn't help but argue with her.
Clearing his throat, Zephyr said, "Officer Jane, thank you for your two favors. I'll treat you to this meal."
"No need. This meal is on me." Jane insisted. "If it weren't for your excellent medical skills, I might have met God."
"You don't need to thank me. Saving lives is a doctor's duty." Zephyr replied.
"Defending the country is also a police officer's duty," Jane retorted.
Zephyr was speechless. "Can't you stop arguing with me?"
Jane innocently replied, "When did I argue with you?"
Seeing the two about to argue again, Jeremy quickly intervened, "Stop, neither of you are picking up the tab today. I'll treat you both to this meal today."
With that said, they both fell silent. Jeremy ordered a few dishes and then handed the menu to Jane.
"Jane, order a few more dishes."
Jane pushed the menu towards Zephyr. "I'll eat anything you ordered. Let Dr. Wright decide."
Zephyr glanced at her. "Officer Jane, why do I feel like you're criticizing me for being picky?"
Jane raised an eyebrow and teased. "Dr. Wright, you're a bit sensitive."
Zephyr pursed his lips, wondering if she was implying he wasn't generous enough.
Jeremy coughed lightly and pushed the menu back to him. "Zephyr, I'm starving, hurry up and order."
Jane and Zephyr were truly a quarrelsome and loving couple!
Interesting!
"I'll go to the restroom," Jane said as she saw Zephyr focusing on ordering, getting up.
"Okay."
Jeremy watched Jane walk away and asked Zephyr, "What's going on between you and my cousin? Looks like there's some chemistry!"
Zephyr added two more dishes and glanced at him. "Don't talk nonsense. I'm just ordinary friends with her. No, we're not even ordinary friends!"
They had only met a few times and had accidentally helped each other.
"Zephyr, are you still thinking about your first love?" Jeremy probed.
Their relationship was good, so Jeremy already knew that Zephyr's first love had gotten married and to a top-tier family.
Although he didn't understand what had gone wrong between Zephyr and Sandy, he still felt a bit regretful.
After all, as his friend, he had seen how much Zephyr and Sandy loved each other.
Zephyr's smile faded slightly as he picked up his glass to take a sip, remaining silent.
He wanted to forget about Sandy, but it was truly difficult.
