Chapter 705 The Final Confession
The message had just been sent when Richard said, "Joseph, we need to find a way to jump out of the car and escape into the nearby woods."
On both sides of the mountain road were cliffs on one side and dense forests on the other.
At the moment, their tires had been blown out, so the only option was to enter the woods to temporarily avoid danger, wait for rescue, and maybe they still had a chance.
Joseph checked the phone navigation and said, "Richard, there's a bend 1,000 meters ahead. When we get there, I'll slow down the car, and you jump out quickly. I'll divert their attention."
Upon hearing this, Richard furrowed his brow. "No, we should stick together."
"Richard, they are armed. If we stick together, none of us will make it out."
"But..."
"No more buts, listen to me."
Joseph decisively interrupted Richard, his gaze calm and steady. "500 meters left, get ready to jump."
"Joseph."
Evella felt fearful and uneasy.
She understood that by driving ahead to divert the attackers behind them, Joseph was putting himself in mortal danger.
At this critical moment, he sacrificed himself to give hope to her and Richard.
Joseph glanced deeply at Evella through the rearview mirror, a hint of tenderness in his eyes.
"Evella, it's regrettable that we have to part ways after only a few days together. If I were to say I fell for you at first sight, you might find it abrupt. I intended to silently watch over you, but I've decided to speak up because I'm afraid..."
He paused, not continuing.
Richard, however, understood his meaning.
If Joseph hadn't confessed now, he might never have had another chance!
Richard's heart felt like it had been struck by a heavy hammer, the pain intense.
"50 meters left, Richard, Evella, get ready, I'm slowing down!" Joseph looked at the upcoming bend, and spoke with a serious expression.
At this moment, Richard stopped being sentimental.
He opened the car door and held Evella tightly.
At the same time, he commanded, "Joseph, you must stay alive. Otherwise, don't call me uncle again, got it?"
Joseph smiled and nodded firmly. "Alright, I will. Take care, both of you!"
The car slowed down slightly, and Richard said to Evella, "Evella, close your eyes and hold onto me."
Evella felt anxious but obediently closed her eyes.
The two of them leaped out of the car and rolled down the slope.
Joseph gripped the steering wheel, watching them roll down the slope, then stepped on the gas and sped away.
The pursuing car behind them was relentless, gunshots ringing out, causing Joseph's car to sway on the road like a snake.
Meanwhile, Richard and Evella, who had jumped out, rolled down the slope and finally landed in a thicket.
Richard calmed down a bit and let go of Evella.
"Evella, are you okay?"
Evella opened her eyes and moved her body. "I'm fine."
Although still shaken, at least they were alive!
Richard breathed a sigh of relief and was about to speak when he faintly heard a loud noise.
It sounded like something heavy hitting something else.
Even the ground seemed to tremble.
Richard's heart sank, and he unconsciously tightened his grip.
Beside him, Evella's face turned pale, her voice trembling as she asked, "Dad, what was that sound? Could it be that Joseph is in trouble?"
Richard fell silent for a moment, then closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, they were filled with crimson.
If he guessed correctly, the impact just now was probably the sound of the car hitting the guardrail.
"Joseph's car may have fallen into the sea."
Evella's eyes welled up with tears, and she hugged Richard, crying uncontrollably.
Richard's eyes showed a hint of pain, but he said, "Joseph has always been lucky since he was young. He'll be fine."
Upon hearing this, Evella nodded vigorously. "Just like Mr. Gordon. Even if he fell into the sea after being shot, he miraculously survived."
Evella had also learned about Aaron's miraculous survival and the incident involving the imposter Jackson.
At this moment, she naturally thought of him, hoping that Joseph would be as lucky as Aaron and survive.
"Yes. Let's leave here first."
Richard was afraid that the assailants might come back to look for them, so he led Evella into the woods.
At the same time, after Nora finished the call, she immediately informed Kenneth and Aaron of the situation and urged them to send help quickly.
Considering Evella's connection to the Remington family, Kenneth didn't dare delay and, promptly called Archer.
After a brief discussion, they dispatched two helicopters for the rescue mission.
With so many big shots involved, Aaron had no room to act, so he remained still.
Nora thought for a moment and then went to the kitchen to inform Howard of the situation.
Howard was cooking, but upon hearing about Evella's situation, he trembled, accidentally touching the hot edge of the pan.
However, he didn't feel the pain in his arm and quickly left the kitchen, preparing to join Kenneth's team on the helicopter to search for them.
"Howard."
Emma hesitated before finally saying, "Be safe."
She was worried that Howard might encounter an accident while searching for them, but she also knew that stopping him at this point would be futile.
Howard would definitely go with them.
"I will."
Howard didn't say much, and after joining the rescue team, he quickly arrived at the mountain road to search for Evella and the others.
The night was cool, and darkness had completely descended.
Only the faint starlight and moonlight above, filtering through the dense leaves, illuminated the surroundings.
The search team had turned on their flashlights for illumination.
Howard followed the crowd deep into the woods.
The signal was weak in the woods, so he tried calling Evella's phone but couldn't reach her.
Howard was increasingly anxious, calling out Evella's name as he walked.
At that moment, Evella and Richard found a large tree and leaned against it to rest.
Upon hearing Howard's voice, Evella's eyes lit up, excitedly saying, "It sounds like Howard's voice. He's come to find us!"
Richard also heard it, nodded, and replied in the direction of the voice. "We're here!"
Placing a hand to her lips, Evella also shouted, "Howard, we're here!"
Howard heard Richard and Evella's responses and quickly found them.
Seeing Richard and Evella safe and sound, he hugged Evella.
"Don't be afraid, everything's fine."
Howard still smelled of cooking fumes, but it didn't bother her.
Evella hugged him back tightly, feeling a sense of calm in her heart at that moment.
Richard, concerned about Joseph, waited for a moment before speaking, "Evella, Howard, let's get out of here first."
"Okay."
Howard released Evella, holding her hand tightly with his right hand.
Glancing at Richard, Evella knew he was worried about Joseph's safety, and her heart ached in sympathy.
She wondered how Joseph was doing at that moment.
