Chapter 227 Picking Up the Kids

Baldwin faced her, "She's not from the industry. She has a great personality, and she's beautiful. Talking to her always brings me much joy." His dark eyes glimmered with a soft light.

Nora was pondering his words and didn't notice the intensity of his gaze. "Baldwin, you're being too vague. I can't figure it out."

‘A nice personality and good looks weren't uncommon traits. Who could be the girl Baldwin had fallen for?’

"You'll find out eventually," Baldwin said with a smile.

"Baldwin, you're keeping me in suspense," Nora playfully complained.

Baldwin grinned, looking into her picturesque eyes, and asked, "Let me ask you, if this girl has other suitors, and they are all quite remarkable, do you think I should still pursue her?"

Hearing this, Nora laughed, "Baldwin, fair ladies are a prize for any gentleman. A great girl is sure to have many admirers. Besides, you're quite a catch yourself. Go for it boldly."

The smile in Baldwin's eyes deepened. "All right, I'll take your advice."

‘Take her advice.’ The way he said it, it was almost as if she was his strategist. Nora blinked, suddenly feeling the weight of responsibility.

Hollis watched Nora, who was still in the dark with a grin. She looked forward to her adopted son winning Nora over.

After some idle conversation and noticing it was about time, Nora helped Hollis remove her IV and then gave her a leg massage. Baldwin watched her concentrated efforts, his gaze at her was extra tender.

At the kindergarten gates, as was customary, a lively bustle of anticipation filled the air. Parents waited eagerly, ready to pick up their children after school.

Aaron also just arrived at the kindergarten gates. Now, sitting in the driver's seat, noticed a luxury car pulling up to the curb not far off, and an elderly man stepped out.

The man greeted everyone with a warm smile.

'Isn't that Jacob? What's he doing at the kindergarten?'

"Mr. Gordon, that's Jacob up ahead." Noe quickly reported it to Aaron.

Aaron looked up from his computer, his gaze shifting forward. Sure enough, he saw his grandfather leisurely walking toward the entrance of the preschool, looking rather content.

Aaron's dark eyes narrowed, deep in thought. "What's Grandpa doing here?"

Although the Gordon family had children attending this preschool, Grandpa never came by. "Could he be here to see the three kids?"

"Noe, find a discreet place to park. We'll watch and see what happens."

"All right." Understanding the assignment, Noe turned the steering wheel and found an inconspicuous corner to park the car.

Soon, the preschool door opened. Aaron watched Jacob scan the area until he spotted the three children and greeted them with a beaming smile.

'Grandpa is indeed here to see the kids!' Aaron's eyes flickered with emotion, and his long fingers unconsciously tapped his thigh.

'He still doesn't want Grandpa to know that the three kids are Nora's. So, it wouldn't be suitable for him to go down and pick up the kids now.'

Meanwhile, the three children were surprised to see Jacob. "Why are you here?"

"Didn't I say I would help you with your homework? Come on, let's go to my place today. I have a lot of toys there that you're going to love." Jacob spoke with a cheerful voice.

'He truly adores those kids. So, he purposely had someone buy lots of toys, planning to have them come over and play.'

The children exchanged glances, somewhat tempted.

Samantha tilted her head and looked at Alex, "Brother, why haven't Mom and Dad come to pick us up yet? Can we go to his house and play for a while?"

Alex was their rock, the one they always looked to for direction. He scanned the surroundings but didn't see their mom or Noe. "I'll make a call and ask," he decided.

Their mom wasn't there to pick them up. She must be busy. So, he went ahead and dialed Noe's number.

In the car, Noe and Aaron had been keeping an eye on the preschool entrance. Seeing that Alex had called, Noe looked at Aaron. "Mr. Gordon, it's Alex's call."

Aaron had been watching the group the whole time. He hummed in acknowledgment, "Answer it, speakerphone."

"Okay."

Noe answered the call, "Alex."

"Noe, aren’t you supposed to pick us up today?" asked Alex.

Noe glanced at Aaron and read the words he quietly said something to him.

Noe got the message instantly, "Yes, but I'm sorry, the car broke down on the way here, and it might be a while before we get there."

Hearing that, Alex looked at Jacob, "The car broke down? Then we'll go to Jacob's house to play for a while before heading home."

Noe looked at Aaron, noticing the slight raise of his eyebrows and the subtle curl of his lips.

"Does that mean you agree?" Noe asked swiftly, "And who is Jacob?"

"That's the guy we met in the park on Sunday," Alex explained.

Standing next to him, Jacob finally spoke up, "Let me do the talking, Alex." Alex handed him the phone, and Jacob took over, "Hello, I'm Jacob Gordan. Don't worry, get your car fixed and I'll take the kids to my place. I'll make sure they get back safely later."

Noe was startled when he heard Jacob's voice and quickly lowered his own to avoid revealing his natural tone.

"I've heard about you from the kids. I appreciate your help."

"It's no problem. I'm quite fond of the three of them." Unaware of Noe's voice modulation, Jacob ended the call and led the three children to his car.

Watching the car drive away, Noe breathed a sigh of relief. "Mr. Gordon, Jacob has taken the children back to the mansion," Noe informed Aaron.

Aaron had overheard and watched with interest as the mansion's car grew smaller in the distance, his lips curling into a smile. He had never seen his grandfather take such an interest in the younger generation. 'Grandpa must really like these kids,' he mused.

"Mr. Gordon, where are we heading now?" Noe inquired.

Aaron paused, then said, "Let's go pick up Nora."

"All right." Noe started the car.

However, they hadn't gone far when Aaron received a call from Jacob inviting him back to the mansion for dinner.

Aaron raised an eyebrow and, after ending the call, instructed Noe to turn back towards the mansion.

Noe's heart skipped a beat at the thought of going to the mansion now. Wouldn't that blow their cover?

At the mansion, Jacob ushered the three children into the house, directing the butler to get fruits and snacks with delight.

The butler gaped at the sight of the three kids. He had heard from Jacob about meeting three children who looked strikingly like Aaron.

'These kids are the spitting image!' he thought. 'If you didn't know better, you'd think they were Aaron's kids!'
