Chapter 875 Pulled it off when I hugged you
Nora found it both funny and frustrating watching Frederick avoid her like she had the plague.
She shot a glare at Aaron. "Is this fun for you?"
"Look at this," she thought, "I probably won't even have a male mosquito around me in the future."
Aaron smirked and wrapped an arm around her waist. "It's quite fun."
Nora rolled her eyes. "I find it extremely boring."
"How can it be boring when you're with me?" Aaron teased.
"It's boring precisely because I'm with you," she shot back.
Aaron feigned a hurt expression. "Honey, saying that makes me really sad."
Meanwhile, in a grimy royal dungeon...
Miguel was on his knees, getting whipped mercilessly by a stone-faced bodyguard. His skin was torn and bleeding, and he collapsed, screaming in pain.
Tomas watched from a high seat, waiting until Miguel was nearly unconscious before signaling the bodyguard to stop. The guard stepped back respectfully.
"Do you know what you did wrong?" Tomas asked, his voice cold.
Miguel struggled to kneel, wiped blood from his mouth, and stayed silent, trembling in pain.
"I'm asking you a question. If you don't know your mistake, I'll keep beating you until he do," Tomas ordered, his tone full of anger.
Miguel's body shook. "I know my mistake," he quickly said.
"What was your mistake?" Tomas pressed.
Miguel lowered his head. "I shouldn't have tried to kill that doctor."
"You not only wanted to kill Dr. Smith, but you also wanted to kill Mateo!" Tomas's voice was icy. "Considering you're my son, this is just a warning. If it happens again, you won't be a prince anymore!"
Miguel's fingers clenched, anger flashing in his eyes. Mateo was just an illegitimate child, yet Tomas favored him so much!
"Take this time to rest and put aside your duties," Tomas said, standing to leave.
Miguel looked up suddenly. "Dad!"
Tomas was stripping him of his power, paving the way for Mateo!
"What, are you dissatisfied?" Tomas looked down at him.
Miguel clenched his fists, suppressing his anger, and lowered his head. "I wouldn't dare. I'll do as you said."
Of course, he was dissatisfied. But since Tomas had made up his mind, there was nothing he could do. He didn't have the power to challenge Tomas yet.
"Rest well. You are siblings. Be friendly and respectful to each other. I don't want to see you fighting again," Tomas said before leaving.
"Miguel, let me help you back to your room," his attendant offered.
Miguel's face was dark and livid. He struggled to get up and was helped back to his chamber.
Soon, Rafael arrived with a doctor in tow. "Miguel, how are you?"
Miguel lay on the bed, the attendant helping him change clothes. "Rafael, I'm in so much pain. Dad is ruthless," he said angrily.
"Quick, check Miguel's condition," Rafael urged the doctor.
The doctor quickly got to work.
Miguel turned to Rafael. "Dad's started stripping me of my power. He's preparing to promote Mateo."
Rafael's face darkened. "I told you not to act rashly, and now you've played right into his hands."
Miguel punched the bed in anger. "It's all that damn woman's fault for meddling in our family affair, and I didn't even manage to kill her this time!"
A cold glint flashed in Rafael's eyes. "I heard Mateo risked everything to save her. Otherwise, she would've died."
Miguel scoffed. "Yeah, who would've thought Mateo had such a sense of duty? I heard Ms. Smith is quite the looker. Rafael, do you think he might be interested in her?"
Rafael's eyes narrowed, a sly smile forming. "Miguel, sometimes you don't need force to solve problems."
Miguel knew Rafael was a man with plans. "What do you have in mind?"
Rafael smirked. "I have my ways."
Meanwhile, Mateo was recuperating at Whispering Woods Resort, so everyone stayed there with him. The scenery there was beautiful, making it feel like a mini-vacation. Birds chirping, fish swimming, picking fruits and veggies—it was pretty relaxing.
A week later, Mateo was up and about, almost fully recovered. Tomas sent someone to ask if he wanted to return, but Mateo said he needed a couple more days. So, everyone stayed put.
Nora turned to Aaron. "Aaron, is everything okay at your company? Do you need to go back?"
Aaron had been there for almost a week. Nora worried something might happen to the company if he didn't go back. After all, and he was the company president.
"Stop trying to get rid of me," Aaron said, looking annoyed.
Nora laughed. "I'm not trying to get rid of you. I'm just worried about your employees. If something happens, they might lose their jobs."
Aaron shrugged. "A good manager knows how to manage people. Whether I'm there or not, it should be the same. If I need to be there every day, then what's the point of hiring them?"
Nora smiled. "You're right, you're a great manager. Just look at your two assistants."
Her compliment made Aaron feel pretty pleased. Speaking of assistants, he thought of Johnnie, who had been with Gabriella these past few days. Gabriella should be fine by now.
Just then, Aaron's phone rang. It was Johnnie.
"Mr. Gordon, Ms. Costa is fine now," Johnnie said.
"Great, you can come back home directly," Aaron replied.
Johnnie hesitated. "She said she wants to see you first, so I'll accompany her and then return."
Aaron's eyes narrowed. "What does she want to see me for?"
"She said she wants to return something to you."
'Return something to me?' Aaron thought.
That evening, they met Gabriella.
"Mr. Gordon, Mrs. Gordon," Gabriella greeted warmly.
Nora had learned from Aaron that Gabriella had ended up in the hospital for taking drinks for him.
"Gabriella, are you feeling better?" Nora asked.
"Dr. Smith, you're a doctor. Why don't you check my pulse?" Gabriella joked.
"Sure," Nora agreed readily.
They sat down, and Nora checked her pulse. Gabriella's pulse was still a bit weak, but overall, she was fine.
"Nothing major, but you still need to rest more," Nora advised.
"Got it. In the eyes of you doctors, no one is ever completely healthy," Gabriella teased.
Nora smiled and didn't say much.
Aaron cut to the chase. "Johnnie said you have something to return to me. What is it?"
"Oh, right, it's this." Gabriella took out a cufflink from her bag.
"Sorry, Mr. Gordon, this cufflink should be yours. I accidentally pulled it off when I hugged you after drinking too much. I'm returning it to you now."
