Chapter 887 I'm Not Her Boyfriend
Time was dragging, and Matteo kept glancing at his watch.
With five minutes left, a wild look flashed in his eyes.
He turned to Zephyr, who was sitting quietly on the ground. "Hey, pretty boy, before Wolf gets here, should I give her a little present?"
Zephyr knew guys like Matteo were ruthless and unpredictable.
Seeing Matteo eyeing him, Zephyr's heart skipped a beat.
"What kind of present are you thinking about?" he asked.
Matteo's eyes darkened. "I heard you're a doctor. Maybe I should cut off one of your fingers and send it to her. Let her feel the pain I felt losing my brother because of her betrayal."
A twisted excitement gleamed in Matteo's eyes.
Zephyr swallowed hard, his fingers curling instinctively.
"Excuse me? It's her fault you feel that pain. Wait until she gets here and cut off her finger. If you cut mine, the pain's on me, and she won't feel it."
Matteo looked at him and laughed coldly. "You weren't scared when I had a gun to your head, but now you're scared?"
Zephyr thought, 'That's different.'
When the gun was pointed at his head, he wasn't afraid because he knew Matteo wouldn't actually kill him.
But now, Matteo said he would cut off his finger, and he would definitely do it.
Matteo pulled out a knife and blew on the cold, gleaming blade, speaking softly.
"You're her boyfriend. Even if the pain is on you, she'll definitely feel heartache, just like I felt when I saw my brother die because of her betrayal. That's what I want!"
Zephyr's eyes flickered. "To be honest, cutting off my finger won't make her feel any pain."
"Why?"
"Because we're just pretending to be a couple. I'm not her boyfriend."
To buy time, Zephyr had to deny his relationship with Jane.
Of course, they were indeed just pretending to be a couple.
Matteo stared at him for two seconds, then laughed.
"Such a chicken. Wolf actually fell for a coward like you. Fine, if you don't want me to cut off your finger, you can curse her with the most vicious words, and I'll let you go."
Matteo still had his twisted sense of humor.
Zephyr said, "Sir, I'm a civilized person. I don't usually curse people."
Matteo coldly laughed. "Don't know how to curse? Fine, then I'll cut off one of your fingers and see if you still won't curse!"
He signaled to a man in black nearby to hold down Zephyr's hand.
The man in black complied and held him down.
Zephyr's face changed slightly. He wanted to struggle but was firmly restrained.
The gleaming blade flashed before his eyes.
Matteo said, "Pretty boy, I'll ask you one more time, will you curse her?"
Zephyr swallowed and replied, "Sir, I really don't know how to curse."
Matteo's face darkened. "Your mouth is tough, let's see if your fingers are too!"
He raised the knife and brought it down.
Zephyr's scalp tingled, and he instinctively closed his eyes.
At that moment, gunshots suddenly rang out from outside.
Matteo's raised hand paused, and he looked sharply at the door.
Someone pushed the door open and came in. "Mr. Bianchi, it seems the military is attacking."
"What!"
Matteo's face changed, and he stood up abruptly, no longer caring about Zephyr, and strode out.
Two men in black hurriedly followed him out.
Zephyr let out a long breath, his back already soaked with cold sweat.
His fingers were temporarily safe.
He thought, 'The military got here just in time.'
'Did Jane call them to rescue me?'
'If so, she's pretty sharp.'
Zephyr's mind raced as he scanned the room, looking for something sharp to cut the ropes binding his hands and feet.
In the corner, he spotted a piece of broken glass. Zephyr quickly shuffled over to it.
With great effort, he picked up the glass with his bound hands and slowly started cutting.
Just then, the door swung open again.
Zephyr's heart skipped a beat, thinking those guys had come back.
But when he looked closely, a hint of joy flashed in his eyes.
It was Jane.
"Zephyr!"
Jane rushed over, her face full of concern. "Are you okay?"
Zephyr said, "If you had come a little later, I would've lost a finger."
Jane quickly checked his fingers and, seeing they were still intact, let out a sigh of relief.
"Stop staring and help me untie these ropes," Zephyr said.
"Okay."
Jane swiftly untied him.
Looking at her calm face, Zephyr asked, "Are the people who kidnapped me your enemies?"
Jane didn't look up and just said, "Yes."
"The one who kidnapped you is Matteo, a fugitive criminal. I used to be an undercover agent in his brother's gang. Eventually, the police took down the gang, but Matteo escaped and has probably been looking for revenge ever since."
Zephyr shook his newly freed hands.
"If he wants revenge, he should come after you. Why involve me?"
Jane also untied the ropes on his feet.
"Probably because he wants me to feel the pain of losing a loved one. I'm sorry for dragging you into this."
Zephyr looked at her. "So when you said not to date you, you weren't exaggerating. You really do have enemies coming after you."
Jane helped him up. "Yeah, regretting it now?"
Zephyr laughed. "Regretting won't help."
Jane said, "When we get back, we'll tell everyone we've broken up."
Zephyr wanted to say something, but she interrupted him.
"Let's talk after we get out of here."
Zephyr nodded and quickly followed her out of the warehouse.
The gunfire outside was intense.
Jane crouched down, leading Zephyr through a side path.
Zephyr asked, "Are those military people?"
"Yes."
"You're impressive, getting the military to come rescue me so quickly," Zephyr complimented.
Jane didn't take credit and said, "It's not my doing. I asked Dr. Smith and Mr. Gordon for help. They're now the princess and prince of Hchilia, and the military acted because of them."
A hint of surprise flashed in Zephyr's eyes.
He didn't expect such a story.
He was curious about how Nora and Aaron became the princess and prince of Hchilia, but now wasn't the time to discuss it.
Seeing Jane walking quickly ahead, Zephyr couldn't help but say, "Jane, you seem very familiar with this area."
Jane said, "Of course, I spent three years here, so I know it well."
Zephyr nodded, not asking more, and followed her through a small forest, continuing forward.
This place seemed to be a compound, surrounded by walls topped with sharp barbed wire.
Zephyr was panting. "Jane, when will we get out?"
"Almost there, just another 600 feet," Jane said.
Zephyr saw a small gate not far away, probably a side entrance to the compound.
Victory was in sight.
They quickened their pace.
However, a gunshot rang out, and a bullet whizzed past Zephyr's foot, kicking up dust.
"Wolf, take one more step, and I'll shoot you!"
