Chapter 338 A Man Must Keep His Word
Chairman Lee took the brothers' answer sheets and, to his surprise and delight, noticed their clear problem-solving approach. They worked quickly and accurately.
Prodigies indeed!
"They got it all accurately," Chairman Lee marveled.
"I don't believe it!"
The young Turner scowled, stood up, and snatched the answer sheets from Chairman Lee's hands.
However, the truth swiftly slapped him in the face. These two toddlers had indeed solved the math problems, which even he needed time to think through!
"Hee hee, my brothers are just awesome!" Samantha clapped her tiny hands with pride. Then looking at the young Turner, she declared, "You lost!"
Young Turner's face changed colors as he gripped the answer sheet tightly, unwilling to accept defeat, "Who says I lost! I didn't lose! I have figured out how to solve it too!"
Samantha tilted her head, her voice milky with youth, "But you turned in a blank sheet, didn't you?"
The young Turner, his face tense, said, "There wasn't a set time for when to hand in the paper, just give me a little more time, and I can write out the answers."
Hearing this, Alex addressed Chairman Lee, "Uncle, he's still not convinced. Please give us another problem, and you can make it a bit harder."
A little harder? The problem he'd posed was not easy! Even the better high school students would have a hard time solving it quickly.
Chairman Lee pushed up his glasses, nodded in agreement, and admired the two identical, delicate faces before him. "Okay."
Such talent was rare to encounter. He was eager to see just how far the brothers’ brilliance could stretch.
Chairman Lee presented them with another problem, and the three started their contest again.
This time, Alex and Billy took a moment to think before starting to write.
It was apparent that the problem was complex.
Meanwhile, young Turner chewed on his pen, stared hard at the question, and tried to wring out a solution, to no avail.
After five minutes, the brothers turned in their answer sheets one after the other. But young Turner had not yet penned his solution to paper.
Chairman Lee felt a surge of excitement; he took the answer sheets and said without looking, "I'll give you three more minutes."
With this time limit, young Turner became even more restless and anxious. ‘How did the two rascals really figure it out, again? How could that be possible?’ he wondered.
His family always claimed he was a once-in-a-century genius, insisting there was no one smarter in the world!
‘These two kids must have colluded with the person who set the questions!’ he thought accusingly.
Chairman Lee, oblivious to the thoughts of young Master Turner, started reviewing Alex and Billy's answer sheets as the boy struggled with the puzzle, beads of sweat peppering his forehead.
Without a doubt, they got it right again!
Chairman Lee pushed up his glasses, murmuring excitedly to himself, "Genius, they're true once-in-a-century geniuses!"
Master Turner, panicking under the pressure, didn't wait for the time to expire before he balled up his answer sheet in frustration and stood up sharply.
"I'm done playing with you! The competition is about to start, and I need to be in the real game!" the Turner boy exclaimed.
Seeing him about to leave, Alex blocked his path with a solemn expression. "So, are you just going to run off because you can't solve it? Who's playing? Be a real man and accept defeat!" His serious demeanor was a spitting image of Aaron, impressive despite his young age.
The confrontation halted the young Master Turner in his tracks, shocked that he'd been intimidated by a kid.
In a burst of embarrassed anger, he reached out to shove Alex. "Who lost? This isn't even the real competition!" he yelled.
Alex wasn't prepared for the shove and nearly tumbled over, saved only by the quick reflexes of Frederic, who steadied him.
Billy, on the other hand, was furious. He dashed over and punched Master Turner, sending him stumbling to the ground. "You can't handle losing so you resort to shoving? You're nothing but a coward!" he remarked.
Though Billy was small, his training in taekwondo gave him a surprising amount of strength. The young Master Turner immediately clutched his stomach and burst into tears.
"Young master!" A bodyguard closest to him rushed to help him up.
The other guards glared menacingly at Billy, poised to seize him.
"Frederic!" Jacob, who had been watching coolly, called out Frederic's name with a stern face as the bodyguards moved in.
"Here." Frederic replied, he had been standing by, swept the approaching bodyguards aside with a swift movement, revealing his own combat training.
The bodyguards, recognizing a fellow martial artist, eagerly readied themselves for a showdown with Frederic.
Upon noticing the brewing conflict, Chairman Lee quickly intervened to smooth things over.
"Folks, the competition's about to start. Let's head inside and focus on that, shall we?" he suggested.
Jacob, however, was unyielding. "No way! A man's got to keep his word. That boy lost a bet to my two grandsons fair and square. He's got no business competing now!"
Chairman Lee glanced at Young Master Turner, offering an awkward smile. "Well..."
It was just kids talking big; did it really need to be taken seriously?
"Besides," Jacob remarked with icy pride, "if he can't even beat a couple of kids, what's the point of him joining the contest?"
Inwardly, Chairman Lee knew those 'kids' were no ordinary competitors.
He could confidently say that out of everyone participating that day, probably no one could match those two little prodigies.
"You old coot, picking on a guy whose parents aren't here?" Young Master Turner spat venomously at Jacob, before turning to his bodyguard. "Call my dad, now! Tell him his genius son is about to be bullied to death!"
"Right away," the bodyguard responded, hastily pulling out his phone to dial.
Jacob paid no mind to their reaction, softly instructing Alex and Billy, "When you're working on the problems, stay focused. Don't let simple questions make you careless or give up on the hard ones, understand?"
The brothers nodded in unison and said, "Got it."
"Good. Let's head to the testing area," Jacob said contentedly, escorting the two out.
Passing by Frederic, he didn't forget to remind him, "Frederic, hold the fort here."
"Understood," Frederic replied as watched the Turner party with a chilly gaze.
Young Master Turner snorted dismissively, no longer interested in entering the contest. He was waiting for his father to come and back him up.
Nora, holding Samantha's hand, joined Jacob in escorting the brothers to the testing area. Once the boys had entered, she turned to Jacob and said, "Grandpa Gordon, that child is the son of the Turner family's eldest. I'm afraid we've just crossed the Turner family."
Hearing that, Jacob's expression hardened.
"So, the kid belongs to the Turners? The current head of the Turner family doesn't exactly have a spotless reputation out there. No wonder he's raising his children without any class."
Pausing for a moment, he turned to Nora, his tone softening, "Nora, don't worry. No matter whose child that is, let's see them try to mess with our Gordon family offspring."
Nora felt a warm sense of comfort and was a bit moved. It was clear that Jacob truly liked her children.
