Chapter 1045 Do as Miguel Says

"No way. I've worked too hard to take Tomas's throne with dignity and without drama. I could've taken him out ages ago," Rafael said.

Miguel looked frustrated. "So, how much longer do we have to wait?"

Rafael glanced at Tomas on the bed. "What's the rush? He’s almost done for, right, Yandel?"

Yandel nodded. "Just a bit more patience. His time's nearly up."

Mateo felt a bit relieved hearing this. Thankfully, not everyone was as reckless as Miguel. Otherwise, he and Tomas might not have lasted until Nora and Aaron's rescue.

By now, the sky had brightened. Nora and her group reached the royal palace but were stopped by several men in black.

Aaron's face turned stern. "Do you know who we are? How dare you stop us? Move aside!"

Hugo, acting as the translator, repeated his words seriously.

"Sorry, Rafael ordered no one enters without his permission," said one of the men in black.

"Why are we being stopped? Has something happened inside?"

The man in black replied, "Sorry, we only follow Rafael's orders. We know nothing else."

After hearing Hugo's translation, Nora spoke, "I heard King Tomas is unwell. As his goddaughter, I’ve come to visit. What does Rafael mean by not letting Aaron and me in? Is he planning regicide?

If so, I’ll spread the word. If anything happens to King Tomas, you’ll all be accomplices to regicide and despised. Think about your families."

The men in black hesitated. They were Rafael's private soldiers, controlled by him holding their families hostage. They never thought they'd be accomplices to regicide.

"Stop talking nonsense. Without Rafael's orders, we can't let you in. Please leave," the leader said sternly.

Aaron squinted, noticing the man's right hand was missing part of his little finger. This must be Rafael's trusted subordinate, Pedro Perez, who had hired mercenaries to almost kill Johnnie and Gabriella for Rafael.

"You’re blindly loyal," Aaron said coldly.

Pedro glanced at him but stayed silent.

Nora noticed Pedro's missing finger and her face turned cold, but now wasn't the time to question him. They needed to get in and rescue Tomas and Mateo immediately.

Nora said, "Aaron, there's no time."

Aaron understood and glanced at Noe and Hugo. They nodded and signaled to their subordinates. "Subdue them!"

"Yes!" The bodyguards quickly engaged in a fight with the men in black.

Frederick protected Nora while clearing a path. Rafael probably didn't expect Nora and Aaron to come, so there weren't many men in black left.

With Frederick clearing the way and Aaron supporting Nora, they quickly entered the palace.

In Tomas's bedchamber, the men in black guarding outside ran in and whispered in Rafael's ear, "Aaron and Nora from Chrisland have barged in with a team of medical personnel."

"What!" Rafael's face twisted as he glared at Mateo. "Did you tip off Nora and Aaron?"

Mateo felt a surge of joy but kept a straight face. "Rafael, I've been here the whole time. You took my phone as soon as I arrived. How could I have informed them?"

"Then how did they get here?" Rafael's face darkened.

Mateo chuckled. "Maybe it’s just a coincidence. They came to see our father and caught you in the act. Seems like Nora and Aaron are really your bad luck! Yandel, did you see this coming?"

"Shut up!" Rafael snapped, looking grim.

He turned to Yandel. "What now?"

Yandel looked unsettled but quickly composed himself. "We stick to the plan. We'll say Mateo caused Tomas's condition. If Nora tries to treat Tomas, we do as Miguel suggested."

Miguel nodded eagerly. "See, I told you, if we had done it my way from the start, it would have been simpler."

Scarlett's eyes flashed with fear. "Rafael, do we really have to resort to violence?"

She only wanted to get rid of Mateo quietly, not start a conflict between countries.

"Mother, we can't worry about that now. It's either him or me. Let's do it!" Rafael's eyes gleamed with ruthlessness.

Scarlett swallowed hard, her face pale, but said nothing more.

Seeing them agree, Mateo grew anxious. "Rafael, how dare you harm them? Do you know their status in Chrisland? Do you want to start a war between countries?"

Rafael sneered, "They're just citizens of Chrisland, no different from ours. I don't believe their president would go to war over two ordinary people!"

Mateo was at a loss for words. "Rafael, have you lost your mind? They are not ordinary citizens. If you harm them, it will definitely cause a conflict!"

"Then let's see!" Rafael was resolute.

"Rafael, if you harm Nora, I won't let you off!" Mateo shouted angrily.

Rafael laughed. "You? If they die, do you think you'll still be alive?"

"Take him inside and make sure he stays quiet," Rafael ordered.

Two subordinates dragged Mateo into the inner room, tied his hands and feet, and gagged him.

Mateo frowned, anxious. He didn't know how Nora and Aaron had come or if they had made all the necessary arrangements. He remembered that Nora was about to give birth and felt deeply sorry for troubling her now. He silently prayed for her safety. At this moment, Frederick had already led a group of people in.

Rafael remained calm. "Mr. Gordon, what brings you here?"

Aaron's gaze swept the room, his voice cold. "Rafael, how interesting. King Tomas is still on the throne, yet it seems the palace already takes orders from you."

Rafael replied, "My father is unwell. The palace will indeed follow my orders in the future."

"Is that so? Quite bold," Aaron retorted coldly.

Nora spoke up, "King Tomas has always been healthy and has been taking Yandel's tonics. How did he suddenly become gravely ill? Yandel, care to explain?"
