Chapter 1108 He Really Quit the Music Industry

Samantha shot Alfred a sideways look. "I'm grown now, you know."

Back when they were kids, she'd always hop into the shopping cart and let Alfred push her around the store. Now, even though she was older, Alfred still treated her like a little kid.

"You're only nineteen," Alfred chuckled. To him, as long as Samantha was happy, she could do whatever she wanted.

"How about I push and you sit?" Samantha teased.

Alfred was dumbfounded. If he sat in the cart, people would think he was nuts.

"Let's skip that. I'm heavy, I don't want to wear you out."

"Don't underestimate me."

Alfred raised an eyebrow. "You sure the store staff won't kick us out if I sit in it?"

Samantha grinned, "We'll handle it if they do."

Alfred was at a loss for words.

"Come on, stop making excuses." Samantha tilted her chin, clearly enjoying the banter.

Alfred cleared his throat, "Alright, if it makes you happy."

He braced himself on the cart, ready to jump in.

Samantha, just messing with him, quickly pulled him back. "Okay, okay, I'm worried the cart can't handle your weight."

Alfred let out a sigh of relief and nodded. "True that."

Samantha gave him a look. "I heard that sigh."

Alfred laughed. "You heard that? Got good ears."

"Thanks for the compliment," Samantha said, strutting ahead.

She was rocking a simple white T-shirt and denim shorts. Her long, slender legs practically glowed under the store lights.

A hint of a smile played on Alfred's lips as he pushed the cart, trailing behind her, soaking in the chill moment.

Samantha grabbed some snacks and wandered around the store. When they hit the water aisle, she felt a bunch of eyes on her.

Her face tensed up. Her fling with Wesley had hit the news. Even though her family got the news taken down fast, Wesley's fans still thought she was a heartbreaker, not good enough for him. Alfred had even caught some flak from Wesley's die-hard fans.

Seeing those looks, she wondered if they were dealing with Wesley's fans again. Hopefully, they wouldn't throw stuff at her like that one crazy fan did before.

Alfred noticed the stares too, and his face turned cold and serious. He stuck close to Samantha, ready to step in if needed.

"Hey, isn't that the Gordon family's daughter? Looks like she really split with Wesley."

"Wesley's statement said it was his fault, that he messed up, and that's why they broke up. But what kind of heartbroken girl would be out shopping with another guy right after a breakup?"

"Yeah, she must be a player."

"Totally, Wesley can't mess with her, so he had to make that statement. He just quit the industry like that, I'm so mad!"

"But didn't someone see him at the hospital's maternity ward with his assistant? Considering he said he messed up, maybe he was a player too."

"Well, I guess they're both the same."

Hearing the gossip, Samantha's brow twitched. She instinctively pulled out her phone and saw that several major platforms were buzzing with news about Wesley.

Samantha clicked on the news link and skimmed through it. It was Wesley's big announcement about quitting the industry. [Hey everyone, sorry to take up your time. I need to clear the air about my relationship with Samantha.

We were in love. It was mutual, not Samantha clinging to me, but me falling for her at first sight. I confessed, she liked me too, and we got together. It should've been great, but I messed up big time.

I don't deserve Samantha's love, so after just a few days, we broke up. It was all on me. Samantha is the best girl I've ever met, and she deserves someone way better.

I wish her all the happiness and health in the world. And, from today, I'm quitting the music industry. Thanks, everyone.]

Samantha finished reading, feeling a bit stunned. She never thought Wesley would quit over this. It wasn't necessary.

Wesley was a top-notch musician, and she never wanted their personal drama to mess with his career. Even when she found out about Elijah's pregnancy, she didn't go nuclear or try to ruin him.

Samantha just wanted to be the bigger person. But Wesley went and torched his own career.

Next to her, Alfred pulled out his phone to check the news too. When he saw the end, a mix of emotions flashed in his eyes.

When Wesley made Samantha cry, Alfred wanted to punch the guy. But now, Wesley had actually quit the industry.

The announcement was dripping with regret. It was clear Wesley had really loved Samantha. But that love didn't last. They just weren't meant to be.

Alfred looked at Samantha, seeing her staring at her phone, lost in thought. His heart tightened. 'What's she thinking? Will she forgive Wesley and get back with him because of his remorse?'

After a moment, Samantha put away her phone and tossed a few bottles of water into the cart. "Alfred, do we need anything else?"

She looked at Alfred, catching his blue eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Alfred hesitated, "He quit the industry."

"I saw that," Samantha replied.

"Are you worried about him?" Alfred asked, testing the waters.

Samantha walked slowly ahead, her tone steady. "What he does is his choice. He's an adult, and I'm sure he thought it through. I'm just an outsider, and I respect his decision."

Wesley quitting the industry was a shame, but she respected his choice.

Seeing Samantha's calm demeanor, Alfred felt a bit relieved. It seemed she had really moved on and wouldn't want to get back with Wesley.

Alfred and Samantha had agreed to just be friends. But he still hoped there were no other special guys in her life. He had to keep that thought hidden so she wouldn't catch on.

Alfred stuck with Samantha as they grabbed a few more things and then headed home.

Once home, Samantha's phone kept buzzing with messages. She checked and saw it was the family group chat.

Millie had posted Wesley's announcement in the group, and the family was buzzing about it.
