Chapter 575 You Have to Take Responsibility for Me
The car quickly arrived at the police station.
Accompanying it was Evella, who had come by taxi.
Without much conversation, the two hurried into the police station.
As soon as they entered, they saw the lawyer from Hamilton's Group.
He had just helped Howard with the bail procedures.
Howard followed beside him, his mood seemingly very low.
"Howard."
"Howard."
The two called out to Howard.
Howard was taken aback, asking, "Why are you here?"
Nora said, "Evella saw the news about you and called me. We were worried about you, so we came over."
"It's nothing." Howard's face tensed, gesturing for the lawyer to go first.
The three walked towards Frederick's car.
Nora took out her phone, asking, "Howard, what's the deal with this news? Did you really take a bribe?"
Howard looked at her, visibly angry, asking, "Am I that kind of person?"
"Of course not. But what's the situation?" Nora asked quickly.
"Yeah, Howard, the video is clear. You did take money from the other party," Evella said.
Howard's expression darkened, saying, "The patient's family did give me money, and I did accept it at the time."
Nora furrowed her brows and asked, "Why did you take the money?"
Howard took a deep breath and said, "I did it just to reassure the patient's family. I planned to return the money to them after I completed the surgery. I didn't expect that as soon as I finished the surgery, I would be brought to the police station because someone reported me for taking bribes."
Upon hearing this, Nora became very worried.
She said, "Someone reported you with video evidence. Won't you be proven guilty of taking bribes? That could lead to imprisonment."
Howard said, "I'm not a public official. As long as I return the money, I won't go to jail."
Just as Nora relaxed, he added, "But if I can't prove my innocence, my medical license will be revoked, and my career will be over."
Nora became nervous again.
Evella, on the side, listened attentively, her brows furrowed.
"How could this happen? Who would report you? Why do I sense a hint of conspiracy?" Evella asked.
Upon hearing this, Nora pondered and took out her phone to watch the video again.
"Howard, I also think you've been set up," she said.
Howard narrowed his eyes.
"Look, this video is from surveillance footage, right?" Nora asked.
Howard glanced at it, saying, "It seems so."
Nora continued, "When you met with the patient's family, was there anyone around you?"
Howard nodded. "No, the patient's family deliberately took me to a corner."
Nora looked at him meaningfully, asking, "Did they deliberately take you to the corner, or did they deliberately position you under the camera for a clearer video?"
Howard was slightly taken aback.
After a moment of thought, he realized that he and Chris were indeed standing directly in front of the surveillance camera.
Evella suddenly understood, saying, "Nora, are you saying that the patient's family set a trap for Howard to fall into?"
Nora replied, "I'm just speculating. Otherwise, with no one around at the time, who would know that Howard was taking a bribe?"
Evella and Howard exchanged a glance, and Evella said, "Yes, that patient's family must have some issues. And I think someone must have colluded with them to ruin your reputation! Otherwise, how could a mere patient's family have access to surveillance footage?"
Howard thought of this point as well.
Nora nodded and said, "Evella makes sense. As soon as you finished the surgery, you were reported. After the police took you away, this matter went viral instantly. It seems like he timed it perfectly, just waiting to confirm the bribery accusation against you."
Indeed, that was the case.
Howard's expression was grim.
Evella exclaimed, "Howard, why would the patient's family plot against you? You were clearly saving their family member!"
Howard said coldly, "I also want to know, so I have to go and find out."
Evella nodded and said, "Yes, you can't just be falsely accused like this. We need to uncover the truth!"
Howard said, "Chris should still be in the hospital. Let's go there first. I have no grudge against him. Why would he frame me?"
Nora pondered and said, "Howard, could it be that you offended someone? Is there someone behind him instructing him to do this?"
Howard was taken aback, "Who could I have offended?"
Something flashed through Howard's mind. He furrowed his brows and instinctively glanced at Evella.
Evella was also looking at him. When he looked over, she blinked, saying, "What are you looking at me for? I didn't frame you!"
After a moment of silence, Howard said, "It's not that you framed me, but because of you, I was framed."
He thought of someone.
Could he be the person who colluded with Chris to frame him?
Howard asked, "What are you saying, Howard?"
Evella furrowed her brows and asked, "Are you suggesting that you were framed because of me?"
Howard said, "We need to investigate to find out."
Nora listened to their conversation, deep in thought.
"Howard, are you referring to Kevin?" Nora asked.
Howard gave her an approving look and said, "I've been doing medical research all along, not involved in business. Who could I have offended? It seems like the only person I've recently offended is Kevin."
Evella looked at him in disbelief, saying, "Really? Just because I didn't agree with his confession, would he do something like this?"
Howard glanced at her and said, "Have you never seen the Wildlife Diaries? Do you know how fiercely male animals fight for mating rights? Competitiveness between men are quite scary! If someone dares to snatch my woman in the future, I won't just sit back and do nothing."
Seeing the intensity in Howard's eyes and hearing the underlying meaning in his words, Nora smiled slightly.
She had always felt that others envied her and Aaron.
Now, it seemed she was the one envying others!
Things were progressing quite rapidly between these two!
As soon as Evella heard that Howard had been brought to the police station, she hurried over.
When she heard someone cursing at him, she argued without hesitation.
She felt that if Howard put in a little more effort, he could become a married man!
As Evella was lost in her thoughts, Howard said, "Evella, if I can't prove my innocence and end up losing my job, and being scorned by everyone, will you take responsibility for me?"

Howard repeated, "Will you take responsibility for me?"

Howard narrowed his eyes, saying, "What if the person behind the scenes is Kevin, and he's retaliating against me because of you?"
Evella bit her lip and, after a moment, said, "I will help you prove your innocence."
Howard was not satisfied with this promise, saying, "We agreed. If I can't prove my innocence, you will have to take responsibility for me."
Evella blushed and said, "How can that be?"
