Chapter 511 The Vegetative State

Ayden lowered his gaze and replied, "Yes."

Ebenezer’s brow furrowed, remaining silent.

Ayden glanced at him and said, "Mr. Hamilton, there are still some matters at the company that require my attention. I'll be on my way."

"Go ahead," Ebenezer nodded and agreed, watching Ayden leave before sighing and leaning back in his chair.

What a mess. Why do things keep going wrong? Did Sandy really betray Kenneth?

In the obstetrics and gynecology ward, Sandy regained consciousness once more, the scent of disinfectant in the air confirming she was in a hospital.

"Mrs. Sandy, you're awake!" Josie, by her side, exclaimed.

Sandy placed a hand on her abdomen, her voice hoarse. "Josie, how is my child?"

"The baby is fine, but the doctor said you need to rest," Josie quickly replied.

Knowing her child was safe, Sandy sighed in relief, then asked, "And Kenneth? How is he?"

"I heard he's still in the operating room," Josie truthfully answered. "Mr. Hamilton Senior just came to see you, but since you were still asleep, he went back to wait outside the operating room."

Hearing this, Sandy struggled to get up and ordered, "I want to see him."

Josie quickly stopped her, explaining, "No, the doctor said you can't handle any more stress. You should lie down and rest."

Tears welled up in Sandy's eyes, and she said, "I want to wait for him outside the operating room."

She needed to know if he was safe and sound.

Josie couldn't persuade her, so she slowly helped her out of bed.

Just then, Suzy pushed the door open and entered, asking, "Cora, where are you going?"

Sandy glanced at her but didn't reply.

Josie explained, "Ms. Suzy, Mrs. Sandy wants to wait outside the emergency room."

Suzy sneered, "What are you going to do? You're the one who caused Kenneth's accident! Are you going to harm him again?"

Sandy stared at Suzy and suddenly said, "You're the one who framed me, right?"

Suzy retorted, "Are you out of your mind? What did I frame you for?"

"You framed me and Zephyr. You want me to divorce Kenneth, don't you?" Sandy shouted.

Suzy chuckled and said, "Cora, you need evidence to make such claims. If you say I framed you, then show me the proof!"

Sandy clenched her fists and said, "It doesn't matter if you framed me, but Kenneth is your brother, and he has always loved you! Your betrayal caused his accident. Would you be at ease if anything happened to him?"

Suzy's eyes flickered with shame but insisted, "Don't accuse me. That's what I should be asking you! Kenneth has always been so good to you, but you betrayed him and caused his accident. Would you be at ease?"

Sandy's eyes reddened, explaining, "I didn't betray him, and I didn't cause his accident!"

"Hmph! Do you believe that yourself?" Suzy sneered.

Suzy added, "Don't forget, you're a jinx. Your mother and sister died because of you, and now it's your husband's turn! Cora, how can you still live with yourself? Someone like you, a jinx, should have died long ago to prevent you from harming others!"

Sandy's body trembled slightly, and she rebutted, "I'm not a jinx. The curse on me has been lifted!"

"Don't lie to me. As long as you're a jinx for a day, you'll always be a jinx." Suzy coldly smiled and retorted, "I advise you to take the initiative to divorce; don't wait for us to kick you out!"

"I won't divorce!" Sandy said, with her face pale.

"Then you can wait for your husband to be killed by you!" Suzy said viciously before turning and leaving.

Sandy trembled all over. She suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, so she took a deep breath and held her stomach.

Josie quickly said, "Mrs. Sandy, calm down and take care of your body!"

Sandy took deep breaths and, with red eyes, said, "Josie, help me to bed." She couldn't afford to have anything happen to her and Kenneth's child.

"All right," Josie agreed and helped her onto the bed.

Watching the light outside gradually dim, Sandy picked up her phone and messaged Nora.

Sandy: ["Nora, is the surgery over? Kenneth is fine, right?]

No response. Could the surgery still be ongoing? Sandy felt particularly anxious.

"Mrs. Sandy, have something to eat?" Josie had prepared some food in the afternoon.

"I don't want to eat." Sandy refused; she had no appetite, and her mind was filled with thoughts of Kenneth.

Josie advised, "Even if you don't want to eat, you should have something. The baby in your belly needs nutrition."

Thinking of the baby, Sandy relented and said, "Bring it over."

"All right." Josie opened the food container and served her some clam chowder.

Sandy forced herself to eat a little.

At that moment, Nora pushed the door open and greeted, "Sandy."

Hearing her voice, Sandy quickly put down her utensils and anxiously asked, "Nora, is the surgery over? Is Kenneth, okay?"

Nora's face was solemn, saying, "Sandy, promise me first, no matter what news you hear, don't get agitated."

Sandy felt a wave of panic, staring at Nora with fear in her eyes and inquiring, "What's happening to Kenneth? Is he dead?"

"No, Kenneth is still alive," Nora quickly replied.

Sandy suddenly felt relieved and said, "So, he's okay?"

Nora fell silent for a moment, adding, "Although Kenneth is still alive, he's currently unable to wake up due to severe head injuries."

Unable to wake up! Sandy stared at Nora, her inner despair deepening, asking, "Are you saying that Kenneth is in a vegetative state?"

Nora nodded with some reluctance. What's the difference between a vegetative state and death?

Sandy's face turned ashen, and she immediately burst into tears.

Nora quickly went over to comfort Sandy, afraid that she might faint due to being too agitated.

Sandy regained her composure, slowly looked at Nora, and then grabbed her hand, excitedly saying, "Nora, you know the treatment, so you can definitely help Kenneth wake up, right?"

Nora hesitated for a moment and patted her hand to reassure her, "I'll do my best."

Sandy looked at her and asked, "Are you not sure if you can succeed?"

"No, you're a doctor too, and you know that nothing can be one hundred percent certain, right?" Nora said.

"No! You're a Master Healer, so you can definitely do it!" Sandy said excitedly.

Nora wanted to say that she was a Master Healer, not a god. Kenneth's condition was very serious, and if she hadn't performed the surgery herself today, he might not have survived.

She can indeed use the message to treat him, but she dares not guarantee that he will wake up soon.

However, seeing Sandy's excited expression, she didn't tell the truth.

"I will definitely wake Kenneth up," Nora promised.
