Chapter 1084 Do You Think I Like Alfred?
Alfred stared at his screen, fingers hovering over the keyboard. He finally typed: [If the girl I’m into has a thing for someone else, should I still go after her?]
He was dying to know what Samantha would say.
On the other end, Samantha read the message, her curiosity piqued. She shot back: [Alfred, who’s this girl you’re talking about?]
Alfred: [Don’t worry about that right now. Let’s say it’s you, but you’re into Wesley. Should I still chase after you?]
Samantha’s heart skipped a beat. She read the message over and over, her mind racing. The fact that Alfred might like her threw her off. She replied: [Alfred, that’s not a fair example.]
Alfred, waiting anxiously, quickly typed back: [I know it’s not perfect, but we’ve been tight for years. Just humor me, put yourself in my shoes, and give me some advice.]
Samantha bit her lip, trying to imagine herself in his situation. Logically, she knew she wouldn’t want him to waste his time. But the thought of losing his attention made her uneasy.
‘No, I’m being ridiculous. I can’t be that selfish,’ she thought, trying to calm herself. She sent: [If you liked me, I’d tell you to stop. I’m already into someone else, and you shouldn’t mess with that.]
Alfred stared at her reply and typed: [But what if the guy you like is a jerk, or you two just don’t click? Should I keep waiting for you?]
Samantha frowned and replied: [Wesley’s not a jerk.]
Alfred: [I’m just speaking hypothetically.]
Samantha: [Do you really like this girl?]
Alfred: [Yeah, a lot.]
Samantha: [Then why are you still flirting with other girls?]
Alfred was stumped. Her quick change of topic left him speechless.
After a pause, he replied: [So you’re saying I should just wait for her? Fine, I’ll do that.]
Samantha was at a loss. She remembered Wesley saying that no guy could like just one girl forever. Men weren’t that loyal.
Samantha: [No, that’s not what I meant. I don’t know what to tell you. You need to figure it out yourself.]
Alfred: [But I only want your advice.]
Samantha sent an emoji, feeling frustrated.
Alfred chuckled. Samantha was confused. She told him to decide for himself, so he’d just wait until she and Wesley broke up.
Sitting in the RV, Samantha scrolled through their chat history. A thought crossed her mind: Could Alfred really like her?
She remembered countless moments with Alfred. He always smiled at her, agreed with everything she said, and stayed by her side on trips.
Alfred was like a knight, always there for her. All signs pointed to it. Her heart raced, and her eyes sparkled.
‘No, I can’t get ahead of myself. Alfred’s just like Alex, Billy, and Ryan. They all care about me, but it’s not romantic. Yeah, that’s it.’ Samantha patted her chest, shaking off the strange feeling, and tried to stop overthinking.
Wesley had been holed up in the studio for three hours, and Samantha was getting bored out of her mind. She decided to hit up Millie. They weren’t blood-related, but they were tight enough to talk about anything.
Millie asked: [Anything go down between you and Wesley today?]
Samantha didn’t hold back and spilled the tea about getting chewed out by Wesley in the music room.
Millie replied: [He actually yelled at you?]
Samantha quickly sent a shushing emoji: [Don’t tell Billy and the others, or I’m toast.]
This was why Samantha avoided chatting with her family group when she was bored. Too many risks.
She was way too relaxed around her family, and sometimes she’d blurt stuff out without thinking. She was scared she’d accidentally mention Wesley, and then her whole family would come down on him.
Samantha knew her family was super protective. Luckily, she was well-mannered and kind-hearted. Otherwise, with their overprotectiveness, she’d be a total brat.
Millie sent: [I won’t spill, but I’m fuming. Samantha, Wesley’s not right for you.]
Samantha quickly defended Wesley: [Don’t say that. He yelled because I wasn’t professional enough.]
Millie: [Even so, he shouldn’t yell at you. What’s his deal? He needs to chill. He can lose it with others, but not with the girl he likes. Samantha, a guy like that is unstable and immature, not boyfriend material.]
Millie’s words hit home. Samantha bit her lip, secretly agreeing. She’d never seen Aaron yell at Nora, ever. It was always Nora giving Aaron a hard time.
Unless Nora got a bit too friendly with other guys for work, Aaron would just get a little grumpy but never yell. It was more like playful banter between them.
So when Wesley yelled at her, Samantha couldn’t handle it. But she didn’t dare say that. If she did, Millie would definitely hate Wesley. She needed all the allies she could get.
Samantha sent: [Everyone’s got a temper. Not all guys can be as chill as the men in our family. I like Wesley, so I’ll learn to deal with his flaws and work with him.]
Millie was speechless, then sent: [Samantha, you should find a guy like the men in our family. That’s how you’ll be happy. Wesley hasn’t passed my test yet.]
Seeing that, Samantha felt a bit anxious and regretful, replying: [I shouldn’t have told you all this.]
She thought, ‘Why did I open my big mouth? Now Millie’s gonna be against me too.’
[Are you just gonna keep quiet and take it when you’re wronged?] Millie quickly sent: [Samantha, you’re the little princess of our family. If you start compromising now, what’s gonna happen after you’re married? I’ve got even more issues with Wesley now.]
The more Samantha said, the worse it got. She quickly changed the subject: [Let’s not talk about Wesley. Millie, guess what? Alfred and his date are hitting it off really well.]
Millie: [Are you jealous?]
Samantha bit her lip and sent the question on her mind: [Millie, what do you mean? Do you think I like Alfred?]
