Chapter 140 We're Just Doctor and Patient

"Yeah, Jenny's staying at Nora's tonight seems pretty devastated," Aaron added.

Edric chuckled. "Jenny's been constantly talking about her upcoming wedding and how in love she and her boyfriend are. She must be heartbroken."

Aaron: "So, what's your plan? Are you going to keep Kim at the company?"
Edric paused briefly, a smile creasing his face. "His popularity is skyrocketing right now; he's making a pretty penny for me!"

Aaron's eyebrow quirked up. "Are you short on cash?"

"Not at all," Edric chuckled roguishly, "but who would ever complain about having too much?"

Aaron snorted softly, about to retort, when Edric added, "However, Kim is double-crossing Paul to deceive Jenny, and she's Nora's bestie? For your sake, I can't keep him around any longer."

There was a hint of appeasement in Edric's words toward Aaron.

"Don't think I can't see what you're up to. You've got a thing for Jenny, huh?" Aaron pointed this out.

Edric grinned. "Nothing gets past my best bud, does it?"

Aaron's expression grew more serious. "Edric, are you fooling around with Jenny, or is it serious?"

After all, Jenny was Nora's closest confidante.

He didn't want his and Nora's fragile relationship to worsen because of Edric's unreliable behavior.

"At first, I was just messing around, but now, I've decided to get serious," Edric admitted, his usual casual tone replaced with a touch of solemnity.

Aaron's gaze softened slightly. "So you're done being a playboy?"

"I'm done."

Edric's response left Aaron silent for a moment.

He knew that, deep down, Edric wasn't truly fickle. Edric once had a girlfriend with whom he shared a close connection through music. Just as he planned to propose, he discovered she had been unfaithful to her mentor. That turned him cynical.

Aaron understood his friend's playboy facade was just a cover for heartache.

Now that he was ready to be serious, could it be that the scar in his heart had finally healed?

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation, followed by Noe's voice, "Mr. Gordon, are you ready? Nora's here."

Nora's here.

Aaron responded with an acknowledgment, then turned to Edric, "Alright, as long as you know what you're doing. I've got to go."

He had his emotional matters to attend to.

Nora waited quietly outside next to Noe as Aaron emerged from the restroom.

Dressed in the same elegant black robe he had worn that afternoon, he cut a gentlemanly figure.

"Where are we doing the acupuncture?" Nora asked with a muted tone.

"Right here is fine."

Aaron saw that Nora's expression was calm, her gaze not on him, and he frowned slightly without realizing it.

Not helping him herself, Nora simply watched as Noe helped Aaron onto the bed. Then she opened her acupuncture kit, ready to begin the treatment.
Aaron's lips pursed slightly, waiting for Noe to leave before turning to Nora's graceful profile and asking, "How's Jenny doing?"

"It's hard to avoid heartbreak."

Nora replied with that single sentence as she started to insert the long acupuncture needles into the designated points on his body.

Aaron watched her intently. "You knew all along?"

"Yes."

"You're quite composed."

Nora didn't reply, and silence filled the room.

Aaron suppressed his restlessness and said, "I just informed Edric; he said he's going to terminate the contract with Kim."

Nora had finished placing the needles. She heard him and responded with a simple acknowledgment. Her emotions remained steady.

"Why aren't you asking why Edric terminated the contract with Kim?" Aaron inquired.

Nora didn't look up but obligingly asked, "Why?"

"Because of you."

Those three words finally made Nora look up at him.

Aaron's gaze was steady. "Edric said you're with me; no one ought to mess with my girl's best friend."

Nora's expression slightly hardened. "Mr. Gordon, I'm simply the doctor treating you. Please clarify things when you speak to others next time to avoid any misunderstandings. Rest for now; I'll return later to remove the needles."

With that, she stood up and left.

She didn't even want to stay in the same room as him anymore. What was going on with her?

Aaron bit his lip, flooded with confusion.

Outside, Noe was surprised to see Nora emerge.

"Nora, why did you come out?"

"It's a bit stuffy in there; I needed some fresh air," Nora said, offering a small smile before pulling out her phone to play a casual game Alex had downloaded for her.

"Let me get you a glass of water then."

There was something off about Nora. Had she had another fallout with the boss?

He hoped not. He yearned for some peace.

Noe grumbled inwardly.

After twenty minutes had passed, Nora went back in to remove Aaron's needles.

The room was silent and emptier, as if the air had turned colder.

Nora glanced at Aaron and noticed his complexion looked off. Of course, anyone would be upset after being ignored for so long.

She pursed her lips and began to remove the acupuncture needles.

"Alright, that's it for today's treatment. I'll be going now."

As she spoke, Nora felt a sudden tightness around her wrist and found herself pulled onto the bed, with Aaron wrapping his arms around her.

Her heart skipped a beat as she struggled to free herself.

"What are you doing? Let go," she demanded.

Aaron's patience had reached its breaking point.
But he still whispered gently into her ear, "Nora, are you mad? Is it because of the horror movie I played for you earlier? If so, I'm sorry."

His voice was soft, and his breath was warm against her ear, rippling through her insides.

She fought to calm her racing heart and forcefully pulled away from him.

"Mr. Gordon, please show some respect. You're just my patient, and I am your doctor; can't you keep it professional? I don't want anyone thinking I'm your kept lover!"

His brow furrowed at her words.

"Nora, did someone say something to you?"

His kept lover?
Where did she get that idea?

"Mr. Gordon, regardless of who said what, I'll repeat myself. We have a doctor-patient relationship. You should get some rest; I'll be leaving now."

Nora steadied her emotions and turned to leave.

Thankfully, after tomorrow's session, treatments would only be necessary once a week.

Her encounters with him would grow increasingly brief.

They would slowly become parallel lines, never to cross.

Watching Nora's figure vanish beyond the door, Aaron's expression turned cold.

Once Noe had seen Nora out and returned to his bedroom, Aaron asked, "Noe, what did she do today? Did she meet anyone?"

Noe looked confused. "Mr. Gordon, Nora's been with us all day. We moved in the morning, watched a horror flick with you in the afternoon, and then I accompanied her to grocery shopping. You know everyone she's met."

Aaron's deep, dark eyes narrowed slightly.

No, perhaps she met someone else.

His mother had dropped by unexpectedly. Could she have sought out Nora after she left?
