Chapter 276 He Has a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card

Jacob fixed a stern gaze upon him, his voice laced with a hint of irritation. "Of course, but she isn’t, so..."

Aaron interjected, his tone steady, "Who says she isn't?"

Caught off guard, Jacob paused, his brow furrowed in confusion. "Aaron, what are you implying?"

Aaron replied with an unnerving calm, "I've just discovered that Nora is Ebenezer's daughter."

His voice was steady, but the revelation visibly shocked Jacob.

"Aaron, don't fabriEvella stories just because you wish to marry her."

"I assure you, I'm not. If you don’t believe me, contact Mr. Ebenezer yourself!" Aaron retorted, his tone firm.

Observing Aaron's serious demeanor, Jacob's suspicion morphed into curiosity. "What’s the meaning of this? How is she Ebenezer's daughter?"

Aaron sighed, "It's a convoluted tale..."

He proceeded to narrate how Charles Manson had shamefully entangled his wife with Ebenezer, and how he had blackmailed Ebenezer to secure his own freedom. He relayed every intricate detail to Jacob.

Jacob listened attentively, then inquired, "So Ebenezer journeyed to Houston to acknowledge his offspring?"

"Indeed."

"And Nora is genuinely a member of the Hamilton family?"

"She is."

Aaron turned to Jacob, his gaze steady. "Grandpa, is she suitable for me now?"

The transformation in Jacob's expression was striking. After a moment of contemplation, he suggested, "In that case, find an appropriate time to formally approach the Hamilton family."

Nora's newfound status rendered her a suitable match for the Gordon family. What more was there to debate? Despite her having three children, their irresistible charm was hard to ignore.

Aaron attempted to moderate his grandfather's enthusiasm. "Grandpa, don't get overly excited. Nora won't acknowledge her lineage."

Jacob's brow furrowed, concern etching his features. "Why?"

Aaron elucidated, "Consider the Hamilton family and Mr. Ebenezer's standing. If an illegitimate daughter suddenly emerges, it'll tarnish Mr. Ebenezer's reputation."

Jacob had been too elated to ponder the implications, but Aaron's reminder sparked a realization.

His face hardened. "Is that so? Then, Ebenezer won't acknowledge his daughter?"

Aaron clarified, "It's Nora who's mindful of Mr. Ebenezer's precarious position, unwilling to recognize him as her father."

Jacob gave him a surprised look.

Aaron continued, "Grandpa, you haven't met Nora and don't understand how compassionate and pitiful she is. She lost her mother at a young age and never experienced her father's love. As she grew up, her stepmother and stepsister conspired against her, resulting in her becoming pregnant before marriage.

"Discovering her biological father, she can't acknowledge him. It's heartbreaking. Everyone is born to parents, and I truly feel aggrieved for her.

"Fortunately, her values are unyielding. Despite everything, she has not become embittered nor has life defeated her. She's not only a proficient traditional medicine practitioner, but she's also raised three extraordinarily intelligent children who keep her company."

His words stirred Jacob, particularly the sentiment, "Everyone is born to parents."

Having children of his own, he knew he wouldn't tolerate any injustice towards his daughter.

But he wasn't naive; he recognized his grandson was clearly advocating for Nora.

"Enough. Are you suggesting she's virtuous? I have but one condition: the children mustn't change schools. The rest is your responsibility," Jacob declared decisively.

Aaron knew his grandfather had completely capitulated, and he was content.

"What about Mom?" he queried.

"A woman's place is in the home. It's excessive if she's meddling in school affairs," Jacob stated, his brow furrowed. "If she has any objections, she can discuss it with me."

With that reassurance, Aaron felt a sense of relief.

"Understood."

He had essentially been granted carte blanche!

As dawn broke, Aaron found himself at Nora's doorstep.

Nora, having just finished assisting her three young children with their morning rituals, was preparing to descend the stairs for breakfast before setting off for Lindwood City. However, her plans were interrupted by the sight of Aaron ascending the staircase.

"Daddy!" Samantha's voice rang out. Her sharp eyes had spotted Aaron, and she ran towards him, a mix of anxiety and a sense of being wronged radiating from her small frame.

A smile tugged at the corners of Aaron's lips as he bent down to scoop her up.

"Daddy, why are you only just arriving? Mommy was about to take us away," Samantha murmured into his chest, her voice barely above a whisper.

Aaron patted her small head in a soothing manner, "Daddy promised you wouldn't lose sight of me," he reassured her. His absence the previous day was due to pressing business matters, but now that everything was resolved, he was in no rush.

Nora's voice sliced through the tender moment, "What are you doing here?" Her expression was icy, and a bitter pang resonated in her heart at the sound of her daughter still referring to Aaron as "Daddy". They had parted ways, and her daughter's wish was destined to remain unfulfilled.

"Were you planning to take the kids and leave without a word?" Aaron released Samantha from his hold, his gaze now fixed on Nora.

Not wanting to engage in a heated argument in front of the children, Nora instructed Alex to escort his younger siblings downstairs. Alex complied, casting a hopeful glance at Aaron before leaving. He was intrigued to see how Uncle Gordon would navigate the situation today.

Once the children were out of earshot, Nora finally responded, "It's my right, isn't it?"

Aaron closed the distance between them, his arm snaking around her waist, "Do you really want to break up?"

"Let go," Nora demanded, her brows furrowing as she attempted to pry his hand away. However, Aaron's grip remained firm.

"Nora, you’re the wife I’ve chosen, and I won't let go," he declared.

Nora ceased her struggle, "Aaron, haven't I made myself clear? Your family disagrees with us..."

"My grandpa has given his consent," Aaron interrupted.

Nora was taken aback, "What did you say?"

"I said that my grandpa has agreed to us being together," Aaron repeated, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes.

Nora stared at him, disbelief etched on her face, "Your grandpa, how did he suddenly agree?"

Aaron elaborated, "Do you remember the old man who took a liking to Alex and the others? That was actually my grandpa."

Nora was left stunned by the revelation, her eyes wide with shock, "That's your grandpa? And you've known this all along?"

"I've been working hard to get my family to agree to our relationship," Aaron confessed, pulling her closer, his dark eyes brimming with sincerity.

He watched the surprise and astonishment play out on her face as he continued, "It’s all about fate. My grandpa unexpectedly started interacting with the kids and he really took a liking to them. So I thought, I'd make the kids the link between us, to get Grandpa to love me, love my dog, too. And sure enough, it worked. When Grandpa heard that the three kids were being bullied at school, he was furious and couldn't wait to confront the bully."

Nora felt a whirlwind of emotions at his words.

"Your Grandpa has agreed, but your Mom still has objections, doesn't she?" Aaron's slender fingers gently brushed her hair.

"Nora, I've told you, leave everything to me. You just focus on being my bride. Grandpa said if Mom has any objections, she can take them up with him."

Nora was momentarily rendered speechless.

The turn of events was too sudden.

She had been planning to leave and forget everything in Houston.

But unexpectedly, this man had quietly resolved the biggest issue standing between them.

So, she could marry him now?

Nora looked up into the handsome man's face, her heart surging with emotion.

"Grandpa agreed to us being together, and it wasn't just because of the kids, right? Did you tell him that I'm the daughter of the Hamilton family?"
