Chapter 909 They Were All People Without Principles
Watching Quentin take a sip of water, Jane smiled, stood up, and walked over with a pitcher to refill his glass.
"Thanks, Mr. Taylor, for all your hard work and dedication. You're a real role model for us."
Everyone loves flattery.
Quentin was no exception.
He glanced at Jane but stayed silent, just raising his chin a bit and leaning back, soaking in the praise.
After refilling his glass, Jane added, "Mr. Taylor, if I may ask, did you go to Celestial Haven last night to discuss a partnership?"
Quentin's eyes flickered. "Why do you ask?"
Jane smiled. "Oh, just curious. Was the person you met a man or a woman? Maybe a beautiful young woman in her thirties?"
Quentin's expression changed slightly. His hand trembled, spilling a bit of water on his clothes.
Jane kept her smile and handed him some napkins.
"Mr. Taylor, what happened?"
"Nothing, just lost my grip," Quentin said, smiling as he wiped the water off.
"Good to hear. How about you give a work report later?" Jane asked, still smiling.
"Sure."
Quentin tossed the napkins aside, sat up straight, and a fine layer of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
Jane's clear eyes seemed to see through everything.
She must know something!
Quentin had a secret mistress, and last night he stayed with her at a hotel. The booking was under her name, and the hotel's privacy was top-notch. No one should have known he went to Celestial Haven to meet her.
Yet Jane knew.
Her words weren't casual. She was hinting that if he didn't cooperate at work, she'd spill his secrets.
Quentin had promised Hubert to teach Zephyr a lesson, but now that was off the table.
Quentin's wife's family had some pull in Lindwood City; otherwise, he wouldn't have been marketing manager for over a decade. He had no plans to divorce his wife. Hooking up with a mistress was just for fun. He didn't want to lose more than he gained and mess up his family.
Jane returned to Zephyr's side, smiling.
Quentin was smart. With just a hint, he got the message and surrendered.
If Quentin wasn't so good at his job and influential, Jane wouldn't have let him off so easily. With him, intimidation was enough.
With Quentin leading, the others would follow.
Sure enough, everything went smoothly afterward.
Seeing Quentin obediently report his work, everyone else also put in their best effort and gave detailed reports on their tasks.
Meanwhile, Hubert went to the police station and learned that the evidence against Victor was solid and he couldn't be bailed out. He was furious.
He called a few contacts to try to get Victor out, but they either didn't answer or brushed him off, making Hubert so angry he almost smashed his phone.
Leaving the police station and getting into his car, Hubert slammed the door shut.
His face was dark.
First, Alvin was arrested. Now, Victor too. Since Jane appeared, he had lost two key allies.
Damn Jane!
"Do you know what's going on over there now?" Hubert asked his assistant.
The assistant quickly replied, "I just asked Oskar. He said they're all in a meeting."
"The meeting can't be going that smoothly, can it?" Hubert asked, his face grim.
The assistant whispered, "Oskar said they're all being very cooperative."
Hubert couldn't believe it. "No way, even Quentin is cooperating?"
"Yes."
Hubert's face darkened even more, and he punched the seat in anger. "They have no principles. Have they forgotten their promises to me?"
The assistant stayed silent, the atmosphere in the car suffocating.
"What are you waiting for? Get back to the company. You idiot!" Hubert snapped at the assistant.
The assistant quickly started the car, not daring to speak.
Hubert's face remained dark. He was puzzled about how Zephyr and Jane had managed to get dirt on Victor. And Quentin, why was he so obedient? Did Zephyr and Jane have something on Quentin too? It seemed he had underestimated these two!
At the company, the meeting ended smoothly. Although Zephyr didn't understand much about the business, he tried his best to digest what everyone was saying.
"Mr. Taylor, so our next major task is to establish a strategic partnership with Vitalis Pharmaceuticals, right?"
"Yes," Quentin responded. "Vitalis Pharmaceuticals has more advantages and resources in the ophthalmology market than we do. So at this stage, we want to leverage their strengths and form a strategic partnership with them. However, Vitalis Pharmaceuticals' heir, Finnegan Foster, is very arrogant. He wants to dominate the market and has no intention of partnering with us at Medicovita Pharmaceuticals. I've met with him several times with Mr. Petrov, but he hasn't budged."
Zephyr listened quietly to Quentin's report without commenting. Since he had only been a doctor before, he didn't know what he could do next.
Jane, who had worked undercover and learned a lot about business negotiations from gang leaders, naturally understood more than Zephyr. In this situation, Zephyr needed to step up and negotiate with Finnegan. Especially since Zephyr was newly appointed, all eyes were on him, so he had to do well on his first task. No matter what, Zephyr had to secure this partnership. Otherwise, the authority he established this morning would be wasted.
"Mr. Taylor, please bring all the information related to Vitalis Pharmaceuticals to the general manager's office later," Jane instructed.
"Okay," Quentin responded.
"Does anyone else have any issues? If not, the meeting is adjourned."
Jane ended the meeting and left the conference room with Zephyr. The group watched them leave and let out a long sigh of relief.
"These two new people are not easy to fool."
"Exactly. Especially Ms. Harvey. Don't be fooled by her being a woman; she seems to be in charge."
"I heard from Hubert that Ms. Harvey used to be a cop. She quit her job after finding Zephyr as a boyfriend, aiming to marry into a wealthy family."
"She does seem quite capable."
"Hmph, she can only cling to an illegitimate child. With her commoner background, she wouldn't have a chance to marry into a wealthy family otherwise."
A few department managers who were on good terms gathered to gossip. A department manager sitting next to Quentin, who was close to him, asked, "Quentin, from the way you started, I thought you would stand up to Mr. Wright. Why did you suddenly change your attitude?"
Quentin's eyes flickered, and he smiled awkwardly, "In this situation, I need to be sensible."
He didn't dare say more and left the conference room. At that moment, Quentin's phone rang. He took out his phone and saw it was a call from Hubert.
