Chapter 223 Another Soulmate?
Becky's gaze flickered, betraying a touch of guilt.
"I don't know. All I know is that Nora is a single mom. Are you still interested in her?"
'She's my half-sister, and after having kids, she must have cheated somehow, right? Why else would so many people like her? So, I don't owe her any apologies. If it weren't for what had happened back then, could she have been so lucky? Maybe it's those kids that brought her good fortune. Children are blessings to their mother!'
"Liking someone means you like them no matter who they are," Baldwin said, keeping his focus on Becky. "You are sisters, so you must know a lot about her, right? Why don't you tell me about Nora?"
Becky snapped back to reality and rolled her eyes. "Are you serious?!"
"Absolutely," Baldwin nodded.
Becky spoke resentfully, "What's so great about Nora? You don't know how unfashionable she used to be. She'd wear these big black glasses and had a heavy fringe. She was so lame and fragile, she'd practically fall to pieces."
Baldwin lifted an eyebrow, picturing in his mind what Nora used to look like, and remarked, "That's called being unpretentious."
Becky choked, sizing up Baldwin from head to toe. "How did someone with your taste become so popular?" she asked.
Baldwin chuckled softly, "Becky, do you want some pointers from me?"
"Of course I do."
"Then tell me about Nora."
Rolling her eyes, Becky conceded, "Fine, I'll tell you. Nora, that girl, used to be pretty naive." They continued their dilly-dally.
On the other hand, Nora had returned to the lab, and after quickly tidying up, Noe arrived to pick her up. She was speechless and yet feeling the emptiness of her stomach, got into Noe's car and headed to the hotel.
"Noe, is he dining alone, or is it a business dinner?" Nora asked during the drive.
"It's a business dinner," Noe replied.
So, she was essentially going there to grab a bite to eat. Nora had her game plan ready.
Soon, the car stopped at an upscale restaurant. Following Noe, Nora entered the restaurant, and they made their way to a private room on the third floor.
Inside the room, seven or eight people, both men and women, were engaged in lively conversation.
Nora scanned the room and quickly spotted Aaron sitting in the place of honor. His crisply ironed white shirt accentuated his upright figure. The sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing his muscular forearms.
At that moment, he was slightly inclining his head, listening to the woman sitting beside him.
The woman next to him, with cascading waves of hair gathered to one side and a face made up exquisitely, was indeed bewitching to behold. Her eyes were full of allure and seemed to be casting electric sparks as she gazed at Aaron.
Nora couldn't help but think of someone. 'The last time she accompanied Aaron to Bescosarst to poach clients, they met a hostess named Finn. The woman here seemed to outdo that hostess in terms of giving off a flirtatious vibe.
'What was her relationship with Aaron? They seemed quite familiar with each other. Could she be another one of Aaron's close female friends?'
"Mr. Gordon, Nora has arrived," Noe informed Aaron.
Aaron greeted Nora with a smile, "Come and sit down." He motioned the woman next to him to move over a seat.
The woman glanced at Nora with playful eyes, giggled, and rose to make room, signaling the server to add a place setting. "Ron, got a new company? What about Suzy?"
'She called Aaron, Ron? That's quite affectionate, isn't it?' Nora took her seat beside Aaron and glanced at the woman, biting her lip silently.
Aaron glanced at the woman with a warning in his eyes, "Watch your words."
The woman burst into giggles, her voice coy and flirtatious.
‘Competition Heats Up’
"Ron, I feel like this girl looks more pleasant than Suzy! My competition just got tougher, huh?"
As Nora heard her speak, she felt her bones felt weak. 'Women can't resist, let alone men! So, is she another one of Aaron's admirers?'
"Ron, stop staring at me like that. Aren't you going to introduce us?" The woman noticed Aaron's indifferent gaze on her but didn't oppose him, speaking in a delicate voice.
Aaron took Nora's hand, "Nora is my girlfriend."
Nora's heart fluttered, wanting to say something. However, his grip was tight, as if to affirm the fact, brooking no contradiction.
So, Nora let it be, swallowing the words she nearly spoke.
"Ron, being that direct? Aren't you afraid of making her feel bad?" The woman chided, then extended her hand to Nora, "Nora, hi, I'm Quinn, Ron's close female friend."
Nora remained silent. 'She's very blunt too! But for some reason, I don't dislike her.'
Aaron's cool voice came from beside her, "Don't listen to her nonsense. We are just business partners."
Quinn let out a coquettish laugh, not bothering to argue.
Just then, the waiter asked if he should pour Nora some wine.
"No need," Aaron declined.
"Yes, please," Quinn accepted.
The waiter stood there, uncertain whose instruction to follow first.
Quinn took the wine from the waiter's hand, saying sweetly, "Nora, you can't sit at a wine table and not drink. Let me pour you a little. You shouldn't have much."
Nora pressed her lips together, staying quiet.
Next to her, Aaron raised his hand to stop Quinn's pouring. "Are you sure you want her to drink?"
Quinn laughed softly, "Ron, don't be so overprotective. I won't bite her."
Aaron's voice was cool, "Just reminding you, she's not just anyone. When she drinks too much, she might end up performing surgery on you."
Quinn was taken aback, her flirtatious eyes scanning Nora in disbelief.
Nora said nothing, "When did I ever do that?"
Aaron's brows narrowed, "Don't remember? In Bescosarst, you dissected my shoes like they were a cadaver."
Nora tried to recall the moment, "…" She kind of remembered now!
Quinn was amused, "Nora, that's quite a unique quirk you have, I like it! Come on, I want to see how you do surgery when you're drunk."
Nora felt like fleeing the scene out of embarrassment. 'Why did Aaron have to bring up her embarrassing past?'
"She can't drink, you're a woman, you should understand," Aaron continued to block Quinn from pouring the wine.
Quinn paused, then laughed knowingly. "Ron, are you truly that considerate towards Nora? I'm starting to get jealous! Do you like central heating? Is it available for everyone?" Aaron's eyes grew colder by the second.
Quinn, with a pleading tone, said, "All right, I was wrong. I should know my place and not speak out of turn in Nora's presence."
It was as if she was saying that she should recognize her status as a discreet mistress and not compare herself with her legitimate partner. Nora thought she should see Quinn as a rival and should feel threatened, but instead found Quinn quite amusing.
"Since Nora can't drink alcohol, let's not force her. You drink tea, I'll drink wine. Shall we toast?" Quinn threw a flirtatious look at Nora as she spoke.
"Sure." Nora readily agreed, lifting her teacup to clink with Quinn's glass.
After Nora sat down, Aaron started serving her food, telling her to eat and ignore everything else.
Nora didn't argue, firmly sticking to the principle of enjoying the meal in front of her and listening to the table's business discussions.
During this time, Quinn stepped out to take a phone call, and Nora couldn't help but ask Aaron, "Who exactly is she?"
