Chapter 903 Why Do You Hate Yourself
Zephyr drove Jane away from the villa area. The night was cool, and the streets were almost empty. The car was silent.
"Thanks for your help back there," Zephyr said.
Jane, eyes glued to her phone, didn't look up. "Why're you thanking me? We're on the same team now."
Zephyr glanced at her. "So, you're really gonna be my assistant from now on?"
Jane looked up with a smirk. "Yep, your personal assistant, always by your side. Will you get sick of me?"
Zephyr chuckled. "It depends on how you do."
Jane snorted. "You're all alone, and I'm the only one sticking around. And you still wanna judge my performance? You must've hit your head."
Zephyr sighed. "Can you come up with a new insult next time?"
Jane raised an eyebrow. "If it works, why change it?"
He had no comeback for that.
After a moment, Zephyr asked, "Why did you mention the six-month agreement to my dad?"
Jane raised an eyebrow. "Because our deal is for six months. If after that you still don't wanna marry me, I can't keep hanging around."
Zephyr felt a pang of discomfort. "People usually date for a year or two to get to know each other. Six months isn't enough."
Jane turned to him, chuckling. "Zephyr, just admit it."
"Admit what?"
"Admit you can't bear to let me go."
Jane smiled. "If you're afraid I'll run away, why not marry me sooner to tie me down?"
Zephyr's heart raced, but he stubbornly said, "It's dark, you can start dreaming now."
Jane glanced at him. "Fine, stay stubborn if you want."
She ignored him and made a call. The phone rang twice before Emilio answered.
"Busy?" Jane asked.
"Not really, what's up?" Emilio replied.
"I need a favor."
"What is it?"
"Help me gather some info on Medicovita Pharmaceuticals under the Wright Group."
Emilio paused. "I heard you resigned?"
Jane laughed. "You're well-informed."
"Is this for your next job?" Emilio asked.
"Smart," Jane praised. "How long will it take?"
"About half an hour," Emilio said.
"Great, I'll contact you in half an hour."
"I'll bring the info to your place in half an hour."
Jane raised an eyebrow. "Okay, but change the address."
"Where to?"
"Platinum Ridge Villas."
"Isn't that a high-end area? Why are you there?" Emilio asked.
"Yeah, I found a backer," Jane said, glancing at Zephyr teasingly.
"Is it that Zephyr?" Emilio asked after a pause.
Jane smiled. "Stop gossiping and get the info ready. I'll wait for your call."
Emilio agreed and hung up.
Zephyr glanced at Jane. "Who did you ask for the Medicovita Pharmaceuticals info?"
"A computer engineer in the police department," Jane said, fiddling with her phone.
"Why do you need the Medicovita Pharmaceuticals info?" Zephyr asked again.
"Know your enemy to better deal with them," Jane replied, her expression turning serious. "Leonard gave you a branch to manage. Hubert won't let you take over easily, so we need to be prepared."
Zephyr looked at her, impressed. "You're quick to get into the assistant role."
Jane smiled. "Yep, dedicated, right?"
Zephyr nodded. "Indeed."
Jane teased, "Since I'm so dedicated, shouldn't the boss give me a gift?"
Zephyr asked, "How much do you want?"
Jane raised an eyebrow. "Can I name the amount? Will you give me as much as I ask?"
Zephyr didn't hesitate. "Yes."
Jane joked, "You've changed since you became a boss. You are rich and generous!"
Zephyr smirked. "I have no choice. If my little assistant is so dedicated, I have to step up as the boss."
Jane laughed. "Well then, Mr. Wright, please take care of me in the future."
"Of course."
They joked all the way back to Platinum Ridge Villas. They didn't rush upstairs because Emilio called Jane, saying he was on his way.
After about ten minutes, a black Range Rover with its headlights on drove up and parked by the roadside.
"He's here," Jane said, opening the car door and getting out.
Zephyr squinted at the car. The Range Rover Emilio was driving was last year's new model, costing at least $300,000. 'Are police officers this wealthy now?' he thought.
Zephyr also got out and saw Emilio jump out of the Range Rover. Emilio was about 5'10", dressed in black casual wear. He wore glasses, had fair skin, and looked refined and handsome. He seemed to be around twenty-three or twenty-four years old. If Zephyr didn't know Emilio was a police officer, he would have thought he was a young celebrity.
"Emilio, where's the information I asked for?" Jane asked directly.
Emilio looked her over, a hint of amazement in his eyes. Then he said discontentedly, "You ask for it as soon as we meet. Don't you have anything else to say to me?"
Jane smiled. "What are you mad about?"
Emilio frowned. "What do you think? You resigned and dressed so oddly. Are you back to your old profession?"
Jane glanced at her outfit. "Is my outfit that odd?"
"Of course, you are just a commoner, pretending to be a wealthy young lady."
Jane was speechless. Emilio really knew how to insult people!
"Emilio, if you keep insulting people like this, you'll have trouble finding a girlfriend!"
Emilio snorted, glancing at Zephyr who had walked up to Jane, his gaze a bit cold. "Did you resign because of him?"
Jane pulled Zephyr over. "Let me introduce you. Zephyr, Emilio."
Zephyr smiled slightly and extended his hand to Emilio. "Hello."
Emilio glanced at him indifferently, his tone somewhat dismissive. "Hello."
Zephyr originally thought Emilio was just a regular colleague of Jane's. When they shook hands, he expected a polite handshake. But Emilio gripped his hand with some force. Zephyr's smile froze. He looked at the provocative look in Emilio's eyes, feeling a bit puzzled. They didn't seem to know each other. Why did Emilio seem so unfriendly towards him?
